This song is musically so pretty and lyrically lovely too. When I started listening to it this evening I thought "ah, I hear a bit of a Dylan guitar and vocal influence there" which would make total sense. I just really LOVE this song and this particular performance. Mike plays guitar so beautifully on it. They all do a fantastic job. Once again, I tip my hat to them all and can't wait to see them in less than a week!

Growing up in the 80's, it wasn't cool to be a Tom Petty fan. Now, when you mention his name, people have a respect for his music. love it.

Very loving and beautiful song and it still sounds like "rock-n-roll" Tom Petty is so touching in the way he sings all of his songs, especially this song and his lyrics are always "excellent and true" Really love the way T.P. sings this song. "SWEET"

WBCN!!!! What a fantastic acknowledgment from show biz titans, both local and non... I felt exactly what Tom was talking about when BCN signed off years ago, and recently with Providence station, WBRU. Then, of course, Tom signed off. We need a new generation of true artists and a comparable platform where the artists don’t get lost. Love to all!

your opinion was insulting and as far as i'm concerned completely innacurate - some people just love to be critics - critique yourself -Toms body of work is extensive and he keeps making good music - his fanbase is huge and varied and piles of other great musicians love him and want to play with him The Last DJ is a great album and it has a good message - great lyrics

I wonder if when their house burned down.. that Tom's desire to keep touring and touring.. was his way of dealing with that/ Sometimes we feel like we can bury ourselves into something, be it work, or a hobby or whatever, to try to get away from something very bad.

I got that too. He was separated from his first wife at the time but this song was written much later, and as I understand it, briefly reunited with her for a while. I think he never stopped trying to understand that part of his life: he was definitely working on forgiveness on many counts. "If I lose you in the smoke" does sound like a reference to the arson episode. A great man.

@@evelynbaron9017 As I read, he and his family were having breakfast and the house went into flames so quickly but he got them all out. And, amazingly, the only room that didn't get destroyed was his studio....with all his song notes....also thankfully amazing. RIP TP Know you are loved always.
