I've been trying to learn guitar my whole adult life. Two days ago, I played and sang this song. First complete song I ever played, plus the first time I ever sang along. I could barely play, let alone sing, but I went for it and what an experience! Nothing compares to that feeling. Amazing, and playing since that happened feels like less effort. I've had a few different guitars and played off and on since I was 18, I'm 47 now. idk.. something just clicked. I watched countless hrs of KZbin guitar lessons. I feel like I've seen them all, but I've watched Marty's videos over and over. Thank you, Marty, for all your help, hard work, and dedication to teach guitar and making these videos. ROCK ON!

LOVE your videos. Thank you so much. My son (8, almost 9) and I are learning the guitar together and we love your site. He is just a natural. I play a few other instruments and decided to learn the guitar in March when everything shut down. Your teaching style is so simple and easy to follow no matter your music background.

Marty......sooo glad to find your new venue....I signed up for your MartyMusic and really hope to be able to stay with things going forward. I am probably like a lot who wished they had started earlier, but it is what it is at my retirement age. Your way of explaining is great. All I can say about the lessons on Marty Music and what I hope to accomplish is I hope you cater to us older guys a bit...just a bit.... and do some of the acoustic stuff from our era which is the 60's, 70's and basically 80's. I like some of the later on music, but not as much. I have had fun with the free lessons you sent for signing up thus far with the acoustic tricks etc....an old dog but trying to learn.....many thanks!!!......George

Love the video Marty, thank you. I'm playing it on my new 6 string electric Mitchell MD400 thru a Roland Cube 30 on JC Clean. Playing both pickups in hummer position it's about as acoustic as I can make it sound, not too bad for a newbie, I think. I really appreciate the lesson and how you teach it, my new music teacher!!

My leading theory on my Tom Petty songs are so awesomely easy to play: Hard to remember complex chord changes when you are stoned to the gills on stage. Bonus.... any Tom Petty song makes an awesome campfire song as everyone knows them
@steventempleton38787 жыл бұрын
Please do a lesson on Tom Petty's "A Woman in Love", the lead riffs in particular. There are no lessons online. The rhythm part is pretty straight forward, but the lead parts which embellish the song are its strong point, and it would be really cool to be able to learn those. And, thanks again for all the great, great video you create.

Marty you ROCK!!! Hey I just wanted to say that I bought your beginner CD set and have been practicing daily. Your CD helped me build my skills. When I started, I was thinking I would be forever before I could play bar chords, now they are my favorite. Always looking for ways to switch out the basic open chords for the tougher bar chords. I still return to my home base which is the CDs that I bought from you. Just wanted you to know, you are really a great teacher. Keep it up... and really enjoy Tom Petty, keep it rockin! - Take care. Since I'm here, can I make a request? Can you do Five For Fighting, 100 years? Can't find anything out there. My wife and I love this song. Would really like to learn on the guitar.

Tom does not use up and down strokes, only down strokes which is more difficult but more even. He also hits the C note after striking the G chord if you listen closely.
