I've never seen any other bodybuilder with the mindset that Tom Platz had/has. Never. I've tried my damnedest to emulate him, but each time I would hurt something. That method of training is not for every BODY. However, my training for the last 10-15 years has been slow and deliberate. Every rep I do I treat it as a set. And it is working.

I did leg day recently some pretty heavy squats for me and then some weight hip thrusts and my hamstrings were the most sore I’ve ever felt them for a solid 2-3 and a half days after every time I bent down it hurt and i was walking awkwardly from the soreness but I was happy and thanks to Tom platz I’m not gonna stop!

No one has the training mentality of Tom Platz. Even if he just talk about Training, his voice and look in his eyes change. He trained harder than Arnold, harder than Ronnie Coleman and every other Bodybuilder out there. It's not about the weight, it's about intensity. Intensity it what really hurts, go throw that point where the muscles burning like Hell. You can't get that feeling with to heavy weights and less repetitions, it's also hard, but in a different way. There is nothing over INTENSITY!

4:10 Tom Platz did an interview revealing that his fiance at the time left him then, and he used all that dark thoughts to push his limits at the gym for the upcoming bodybuilding comp. That's part of why his best clips look like life or death training - for most men in that situation, it would be. He's awe inspiring for when you think life is too tough to blast your body at the gym - that's exactly when you should do it!

I grew up admiring him in the 1970s. I got to know him a bit when living in Venice from 90-93. What a fantastic guy, and his influence was profound on leg day, 2-3x a week. Don't forget the shoes. He always said you need a good base for squat day.

@@homelander7506 they were my favorite. Everyone is different. What did he tell you? Btw you can do legs more than once a week, but may only want to do one heavy day/squats or hack squats per week. Guys were still doing HIT in the 1990s, but separating workouts. Major groups Heavy to failure. Sub groups Light to failure. Been out of it too long. I’m sure everything is different now days.

@@markvisconti4507 I think alot of it is the nervous system, the muscle recovers quick especially because we're all gear heads, but mentally and nervous system wise its too much

Unfortunately for me, youth was wasted on the young. I worked hard, consistent, decent diet, good control, but many-many injuries. Tom wasn't around a whole lot, and I never saw him train there, but maybe he saw that I was one of the few guys doing significant weight full-depth/bucket reps, no bouncing, to failure. He always commented on my shoes, or lack thereof. Mike Mentzer was there, and I knew him a lot better. We saw each other several times a week for years. A super nice guy, but I hardly ever bothered him for advice. Opportunity lost. Again, youth wasted on the young. Take care, have a good day or evening.@@homelander7506

Now when I go to the gym this is the only thing I think of my new motto. I never feel bad leaving I don't always have a A++ workout but I feel good I feel great... Anything but a loser, be big be stong be 😊.
