Tom heads to Great Britain in search of some exotic barn finds and has some great luck at his first location where he discovers a Mercedes-Benz 500SEC AMG and a Jaguar XJS TWR that was one of several hundred produced between 1984 to 1988. To finish out the episode Tom's friend, Bernie directs him towards a 1951 P1 Allard with Monte-Carlo Rallye history.

We're glad you enjoyed some of our exploits in England. We just wanted to make clear that these episodes were filmed before the pandemic, and Tom has been following the advice of his local health professionals since.

@MAD DOG -- There are very few "abandoned cars." Most are neglected and ignored, but owned by someone. There is no need to contact the state, just find the owner and negotiate a purchase. Good luck!

I greatly enjoy Barn Find Hunter. And for Tom to find a 1989 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo in England. Wow! I do wish an under hood shot had been done as they were the only Trans Ams ever built with a V6. The Buick 3.8 with different cylinder heads than the Grand National. Happy Hunting!

Parking cars outside in Europe is tragic. I parked a second car in front of a lock-up I own - it sat there for seven years and I never thought the water would get in, but it did. Inside resembled a botanical greenhouse. I have learned my lesson. A car you treasure = garage.

Yeh... in winter the material shrinks, and in summer it stretches. The seals dont survive this over the years... water will get in at some point, even if the car is newish and in a good condition. With newer cars there is the problem that a lot of the control units are located somewhere low in the car, like in the boot. When they get in contact with water... well, RIP.

Tom, great to see you in Europe. When I lived in North Yorkshire I met a guy who owns Carnell classic cars (name of website is the same) and he has a few unrestored cars in containers that he wants to restore and quite the garage himself full of interesting cars and stories. Definitely worth emailing him. Anyway I’ve since moved to the Netherlands and if you need any help finding something unexpected let me know.

I've worked on two of those RHD AMG 500SEC's here in Australia, one was imported by Bob jane and a mate has a 500SEL AMG with the same blowerset up .Strettons were the English AMG agents and did a few of them . Walkinshaws built two XJS's which won atBathurst. when actual cars raced there. The split axle on the Allard (think F truck...) was designed by Ballamy who used it successfully on his racing efforts. Allards Father was a London Ford Dealer and they were involved with Arcus Duntov and his Ardun heads.\ The flattie is a French one, they were still making them for the military right up to the 80's.

Unbelievable. Lifelong car guy, moved from the States to London eight years ago...and the legend Tom Cotter is a 10 minute walk from my house to check out a car I've never spotted. London is filled with little garages that I'm convinced are holding amazing classics. There's a block of six or eight of them nearby that I'm dying to get inside. And old Moggies, a Saab 96, a Spitfire, a Herald and a bright red Kaiser Manhattan all hanging out on the street near me in various states of health. And by the way, every bit of the stick Tom gets - "aluminium", "Jag-u-ar", "colonies" - is true to life here as a Yank. Can't wait for the next episode!

Destruction of the traditional England for the sake of never ending population growth. Had they controlled immigration they would not need to destroy and keep increasing the housing density. But we know it is all about the votes (the new people will vote who enabled their migration) and money (kick backs, future employment and other rewards for signing the papers).

Sadly the above is the truth, smaller towns just keep expanding into their surrounding countryside with green land built on with endless "orange" new build houses. Politicians just want economic "growth" as their highest priotity, but their legacy will be the lowering of the quality of life for a lot of people.

Great story on the Allard. I'm in Sydney Australia and run a hinged front axle on my T Bucket very similar to the Allard. The hinge is behind the licence plate so most people think its a traditional dropped axle. It also runs rack & pinion steering. Most people don't think it would work properly but it drives like a sports car.

Good to see you over this side of the pond! I'm from Newbury (West Berkshire) where the Allard's owner's father had his garage!

the Proper English Weather really gets after their Autos, rusting them from Boot to Bonnet, but hopefully this episode will get some of these Royal Jewels back on the blacktops.

I was waiting for Tom to come over to Europe! It is harder to "Barnfind" cars over here but they are there! If you happen to still be around and plan a trip to germany i would have some interesting contacts for you! ;)

if you want to find rare old cars.. go to Surrey. Search around Brooklands race track (built in 1907) in Byfleet / Weybridge .. I had a job reading utility (gas /electric) meters. Which were found in the garages in the older houses.. everyday i was looking inside dozens of places. The owners were not all rich people ..
