I was at a Dennys once and this older gent (yes white) told me, "When I was growing up it would have been a bad thing to date a woman like you. I think Tom's dad and my dad were neighbors. My cousin and his family came out from back East for a visit and with them was a foreign exchange student. A fifteen year old German girl. My dad was in WWII and I see that he is trying to figure out something to say to this girl in a lull and I'm thinking, oh shit I know that look... and what he comes up with, I shit you not is... "That Hitler was a pretty bad guy." Because it was the only thing about being German he could come up with.
