Something To Aim At
A Film by Ray Pascoe
Written and Narrated by Phil Liggett
Ray Pascoe: "30 years after his tragic death in the Tour de France of 1967, Tom Simpson's achievements are still talked about today. Tour of Flanders, Milan-Sanremo and Bordeaux-Paris were just a few of his victories. This film traces his life from humble beginnings in a small mining village in Durham, to a World Championship rostrum in Spain in 1965.
Reminiscences from professional colleagues Barry Hoban, Vic Denson and the great Eddy Merckx, the team manager and the cycle mechanic from the 1967 Tour, Alex Taylor and Harry Hall add to the story. Helen Hoban, his widow and daughter Jane have their own special memories.
For those who remember seeing this great rider, this tribute will bring the past alive, for others this is a chance to watch Tom in action and see just what made him so unique.
