I got to meet Tom T. Hall at the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005 when I was 27 years old. It was one of the most impactful moments of my life. I wrote a letter to him as well one year and he respectfully replied. I hold that letter dear. I hated to hear of his passing and sadder now, knowing this is the reason. I worried about him after Miss Dixie died. I hope they are both, now at rest.

I have been fortunate enough to acquire a 1958 reconditioned SeeBurg jukebox. I change the records when it suits me, but since I have owned it, one song that has never changed is Tom T. Halls' "Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine". When I am feeling melancholy, I play it. But, whenever I lose a pet, I play it repeatedly. Although I am in my 70's, only this song can soothe my grief, and get me through the sadness I cannot shake. God bless you Mr. Hall, the world is a lesser place with your absence.

I can't see this is devastating. One of the best songwriters we've ever known, after losing his wife years ago and struggling with health issues at 85, opted to choose when he wanted to leave this world. A world he absolutely loved, and made sure we knew he loved, with everyone in it. Everything about him will be missed by millions. I've seen too many family members wither beyond having any choice left in their life, and if he made a decision before that happened to him, I have to respect that. RIP, The World's Greatest Storyteller.

This news is so heartbreaking! I was saddened to hear that his wife Dixie has passed on years ago. Tom was an inspiration to me as a songwriter having read his book on the subject about 40 years ago. He was always one of my country music heroes with all of those big hits he had. I never dreamed that he would get so low as to take his own life. I have to think that somewhere he had one more song in him (as Merle Haggard had spoken of his own journey) and a reason to continue on. So sad!
