I have a technical question: How do you get clean HDMI out of your EOS R and keep autofocus? I know manual focus gets rid of eye/face focus box but you seem to move a lot and stay in focus. I also use ElGato, Atem Mini Pro, and of course, the Eos R. Your help would be much appreciated. I record to usb drive from. Atem. Mini but I always get the square focus thing.

a very helpful video indeed thanks!, just wanted to know one more thing, while doing a session on Zoom through Ecam Live, can we go Live simultaneously on Facebook and KZbin (through restream) as well? and share the whole meeting with our viewers who are not part of that zoom meeting?
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you could! It would take a lot of processing power, but if your computer can handle it, you can use Ecamm as a Virtual Cam in Zoom for the meeting while simultaneously streaming. In theory you should also be able to use NDI.tv to make Zoom a source for Ecamm 🤔

During quarantine I've been working on a little studio project an hour and a half from home. Bought a house, fixed it up, rented it out, put a 16 by 28 building there and just finished setting it up and started shooting. I love taking things to a new level with new gear :) It's cool how well you have set up and created such a even blanket of exposure. When I was setting up this new location I learned fast the challenge of creating a set. So I really appreciate your work. It's very relevant to what I am working on. Great video and very helpful! What is your hardware set-up in addition to the Atem mini? Specifically, I am wondering how many things you have plugged into your MacBook Pro and if running out of of ports is a challenge. Do you ever use a hub for certain inputs?
@tombuck
@tombuck 3 жыл бұрын
Ports are definitely limited. I’ve been using the M1 Mac Mini for about a month now. The ATEM and Rodecaster are connected to the back, along with a USB hub and external display. The hub has 4 USB ports, sd card slots, and an internal hard drive. It’s basically the same setup I had on my MacBook with a slightly different adapter.

@@tombuck Tom, thanks for your fast reply! I currently have an older MacBook Pro that does not have USB-C adapters, so it has been hard to find a hub for it. I am thinking about getting a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB ram and either the 256GB or 512GB hard drive, so I would be curious which one your got and how you like it. I also think I will need a hub on it as well, so let me know if you have any recommendations. I am a speaker and coach and plan on using this set-up for online courses and streaming. My wife is also a teacher, so I plan on getting this researched and tested out, so she can use the finished product as well! That's a good question. I got the base model because it had all the features I needed, but in general, I think the Pro is the best balance between price/features. The ISO seems a bit overkill, and I'd probably move to one of the higher end options if I really needed those capabilities.

Thanks Karla! Eye contact can be tricky. Through KZbin I've gotten used to treating the camera as a person and keeping my focus primarily on it. Zoom is tough for podcasts because it seems like the recording quality is always bad. Ecamm's interview mode has been my go-to for a long time, but if you don't have Ecamm, then Riverside.fm is a good choice. Ecamm will let you create difference "scenes" with guests that you can switch between along with separate audio track for each person. Riverside will give you separate audio AND video tracks for each person but it's not as flexible with adding graphics and scenes and stuff.

So you're getting me excited about the possibility of trying Ecamm as a new workflow! Previously I was using Screenflow when doing a combination of screencapture and showing myself on camera. But this looks like it will give me more options... So if you're doing a screencapture recording using ecamm, is it possible to have two separate files, one file for your screencapture and 1 file for your webcam file? Then you can go back and swap back and forth between the two files as you see fit? Or do you have to make that decision on the fly as you record w/ ecamm? Also, when you turned on the new camera at 10:32, the colors don't look nearly as vibrant and amazing as the rest of this video. Is that because of a certain setting you're using for the other cameras to get your colors to pop and look so good? I keep getting all fired up about new possibilities as I keep watching your videos, thank you!!
@tombuck
@tombuck 3 жыл бұрын
Ecamm is amazing! My wife does all of her screen shares for everything directly in it, and I’ve been doing it more and more too. But you only get the one file, not separate sources. As for the colors, I adjusted colors on the regular footage, but Ecamm was straight from the camera. I do have a video about how to create custom LUTs to adjust your image in Ecamm, and you can download mine for free in that video. 👍
