So I used the timelapse function through the multi port the first time around. But then it stopped working and I've tried different settings on the A7s3's USB and the PC remote menus, yet the slider has stopped triggering the camera. Have ordered a new cable and I'm hoping that solves the problem. Any suggestions on what menu settings will allow the camera to be trigggered through the multi port?

I did NOT get bored at 6 minutes... ;) I really like the history and context as it gives a baseline to understand how cool the features and capabilities of this slider are. I love the shots of the Handicam on the slider! Great for those days you just have to record to Mini DV tape... I have the Edelkrone slider one, and find there's just too much friction in use (plus no power button and have to use app) and so I don't use it much. Plus, they're super expensive and surprisingly loud in fast movement mode. The Shark Slider Nano, with built in pan and (almost) double length slide on a stand, seems like a really good value.
@tombuck
@tombuck 3 жыл бұрын
I mean the video really gets good right after the 6 minute mark 😉 I was happy with my Edelkrone because it got the job done well enough in my controlled environment and I had gotten used to it, but this is a whole different beast. Plus that fact that you never have to use the app unless you want to- I love it! And it has a power button.

Hi Tom, the reason you can not trigger your camera to work is that your camera interval shooting is turned on, and you need to disable it and be off, also your need to set the self-timer to be single shooting, or otherwise you won't trigger your camera to take photos and finish your timelapse even if you see the slider seems to be moving and taking action of shooting but actually not trigger your camera to shutter.

It's pricey, but for a reliable slider with panning motion I don't think there's much out there that's cheaper. I do know that Rhino and GVM have some more affordable motorized options, but I'm not sure which features they have.

Sliders are so much fun and do produce great images! Anytime I use one, especially for client work, I make sure there is a dedicated camera just for it. I try to set up before hand so it's ready to go with minimal set up. As a one man crew any down time leads to frustrated clients. *most clients prefer quick and efficient. The best clients understand it takes time to get the right shot. Great video as always Tom!

I was having trouble with the timelapse feature too while using a Canon R6 II (uses 2.5mm shutter release). None of the included cables worked properly. The closest included cable that did NOT work was the L1 and it is TRS to TRRS. I grabbed a 2.5 mm TRS to 2.5mm TRS and it worked fine. Hope this can help some Canon users.

I have issue with timelapse as well. Camera is A7R III, timelapse work ONLY when i set self-timer 2s on camera, when shutter is set to single shooting or fast burst, slider is moving, but camera are not taking shots. But I am used to it, because usually I'm using 4s interval. So basically slider sends signal to camera, after 2s camera takes shot and then slider moves and so on...

I wish people understood that bearings and a smooth action aren't the main factor in a good slider. Its the dampening of viscous coated surfaces, exactly like you have in a fluid tripod head. thats what allows you to start & stop smoothly - it resists the pressure you apply.

Great content bro! QUICK QUESTION... are you using that Rode overhead mic for the audio in this video? If so, it sounds fantastic!! It's definitely a better look than the having the mic in front of your face. Is this same setup what you now use for your podcast as well?
@tombuck
@tombuck 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you don't see a mic in frame, 99% of the time I'm using the Rode Videomic NTG. It's such an awesome mic. For podcasts I do usually stick with the "mic in your face" setup just to bump up the audio quality a bit and try to reduce background noise as much as possible. Every once in a while I'll take the audio from the Videomic and put it into Adobe Audition to EQ it a bit and remove some reverb, which does seem to help. A lot of times though it sounds great just straight from the camera.

Thanks for the great information. I am live-streaming a band each week at our church from about 45 feet using a Sony A6400/200mm. Would you expect the motion to be noticeable given the relatively short horizontal travel. I think a subtle movement at times would add a lot to the production. Thanks
@tombuck
@tombuck 3 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on your lens/position. If there are foreground objects and/or you're using a wide lens it could definitely add a nice effect. Maybe try a test by moving the camera by hand for now just to see if the movement is noticeable enough?

@@tombuck Thanks! It seems that this is one downside with the Shark Nano compared to the SliderOne. My guess it’s because of the brushless motors on the Shark Nano compared to the steeples motors on the SliderOne. Do you ever use the SliderOne for top down slides with the flex head? I saw in another video that the Shark Nano only work in 25% angle think he had 1.34 kg load after that the motors are not strong enough. Is that your experience too? Do you still use the Nano as your main slider or are there times when you use the SliderOne as well?

Tom, what a fantastic -- or should I say, "fin-tastic" video? I'm considering mounting the Nano vertically on a desk to make my camera rise to appear above my monitor. Can you tell me how long the movement would be? Is it the single movement length or is it the double movement length? Also would I be able to mount it to an Elgato Master Mount vertical arm mounted to the back of my desk to give it the necessary stability? If you don't think this will work, can you suggest an alternative? Also, do you happen to know if it can be controlled with an Elgato Stream Deck?
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Frank! Thanks for the kind words! It's a little tricky for me to find the EXACT length of movement, but when the slider is flat on a table, or mounted vertically it's about 11". It's connected to a tripod it adds in about 4-5 more inches of horizontal movement (but it's also important to remember that that shifts the weight around quite a bit too). I haven't used the Master mount, but I think the slider is probably too heavy to use with it. And as far as I know, the slider can't be controlled with a Stream Deck, but there might be a brilliant person out there who knows how to make it happen. Hope that helps answer some questions!

I havne't used the Zeapon myself, so I really can't say. But feature-wise, the I don't believe the Zeapon has a built in control interface or the ability to add panning motion.

@@tombuck, thanks for the quick reply. Yes Zeapon doesn’t have the interface and pan motion but they have been saying for awhile they’re making one. Enjoy your iFootage nano slider. I just bought their TC7 carbon tripod. Good quality products. Looks like the nano are out of stock and I might grab the Zeapon Micro 2 Plus and give it a try.

I am a realtor. I use an iPhone 11 pro, an OSMO 3, and iMovie editing. I am about to get a commercial license for my Mavic 2. I want to add a tripod and slider to my set of tools. What would you suggest as a decent price point for a tripod and slider that will enable me to improve my photo and video skills?
@tombuck
@tombuck 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much you plan to use it. If the slider is going to be a "sometimes" tool, you could definitely look into a compact manual slider. Edelkrone makes a realyl great one. If you're going to use it more often, then that's where a motorized slider can make things easier. They all have learning curves, but this is my favorite by far. A sturdy tripod is also key. There are links in the video description to the Manfrotto legs and head that I've used for many years. You definitely don't want to put a bunch of heavy and expensive equipment on a bargain basement tripod.

Hey Tom! I just got me Slider Nano this week and it's an amazing piece of tech! RE the issue with the stop-motion manual shooting, you can set up your EOS R to shoot when you touch the flip-out screen, and this greatly reduces the possibility of camera movement when releasing the shutter over using the shutter release itself. I haven't tried the camera-cable interface on either my EOS R or my R5 as yet, so I can't speak to that issue, but it should be pretty straightforward given ifootage's excellent deployment on all the other applications/features, so if it's a problem, you can be sure footage will address it in another firmware update (if you haven't updated the firmware yet, maybe that's the problem. In looking online and through my manual, I'm not seeing a place to update the firmware, but mine is version "01ver 0.6.12". It seems to be a mystery as to where and how you update the firmware as far as official footage online is concerned, but according to posts on a Facebook user group (facebook.com/groups/750508455511461/search/?q=firmware%20update) if you connect it to your phone through the app, if you need one of the two available updates (calibration and, I assume, main firmware), it should prompt you to update. I'll let you know if I find any issues with it running my cameras. The response I got from footage regarding whether or not the cable hookups would work with my R5, which isn't listed in their official "compatible" cameras list was pretty vague, saying only that the N3 cable (which my R5 uses) is compatible, without addressing whether or not it actually works in any way. Yeah, "Moco" is "booger" in Spanish. WTH?🤪 BTW, I got my bundle for $599, so I guess they're going up in price.

Great tip about the flip out screen, that'll help a lot! I did ask them about firmware updates and they said it'll automatically show up in the app if one is available, so I don't think we're missing any releases. Overall I absolutely love the slider and I'm glad you're liking yours too!

@@tombuck so Tom, I have tried my EOS R5 with the timelapse feature on the Slider Nano finally. Like you, I was having issues with it not releasing the shutter, but then I tried turning on Bulb mode and voila! Without Bulb turned on, it seemed to want to release the shutter (settings etc would flash on screen as though photo was shot) but no photos were saved. Bulb mode on and settings become available and shots are taken and saved. Hope that helps.

Does iFootage tell you what video title to use? Lots of videos on youtube about this product, with similar title, a variation of "best slider I've ever used"... it's cringey as hell. When people decide to become youtube content creators, is that the day they lose all self respect?

Or, and hear me out, it’s just the best slider I’ve ever used so I called the video that. There’s not always a ten layers deep conspiracy to things.
@kerosene4751
@kerosene4751 Жыл бұрын
From your own ethics statement: "I will always clearly state in the video and description that it was provided to me at no cost. ". Your description fails to mention you received it for free, so you're not even following your own guidelines. This is an expensive item. Receiving it for free in return for a "best slider ever" video that already is sponsored, is a nice pay day. No "cons" section, or room for improvement. Just "best ever, I use it every day, the end". One does not need a conspiracy to shine light on the obvious.
@tombuck
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
I added that disclaimer to the description because it should've been there and that was an oversight on my part. But the relatively lengthy part of the video discussing the Ethics Statement makes it very clear that I received the slider for free. Like I said, I got to try the slider, I really like it, and I made a video about it. Even several years later, I still haven't gotten or used another slider. This is literally THE slider I use for everything. You don't have to like the video or even agree with it of course, but to try and claim that I'm trying to be disingenuous or out to get a payday from a company that has literally never paid me for anything is both rude and inaccurate.
@kerosene4751
@kerosene4751 Жыл бұрын
You still don't get it. Receiving free stuff from the company IS PAYMENT. You were paid. To claim you weren't is inaccurate. This isn't a phone case or cheap powerbank. You received an item that most people save up for over time to acquire.

Yes, they send products for "free", but that's FAR from free. The time spent to gather what to say, setup lights, filming, edit, sometimes it's like editing a wedding! Sometimes it takes 3 days to complete a review! It's so much work doing these reviews, they are exhausting. At the end of the day, no, it's not free. We just "paid" for it with our time doing these reviews. And comparing the same time used to edit a wedding or a corporate video, these clients pay us like... $4000 and up. Reviewing items, very rarely something will get sent that cost $4000. So again, the time spent doing reviews and getting it "free" is far less on what one makes filming and editing a project for a client. Secondly, those disclaimers that tells the viewers with "they send me the lights bla bla blah", it's actually required by law, that's why everyone adds that to the video. If it wasn't said in the video, one must at least put it in the description so people know this was a "free item" Third, again, you are correct. The viewers can tell one's honesty. And before accepting reviewing a "free" product, then you have the choice of accepting the item or not. When you say yes, sent it over, most of times, it's an item that you like, read the specs, researched and believe it's really awesome, and most of the time they are, this sometimes it may seem the review is biased. So at the end of the day, no, it doesn't matter if the item was bought or sent as a test for review. You can tell if the review is honest. If it isn't, when someone buys the product because of the video, it will come back in the comment session as a complaint. So, most you tubers (hopefully) seem to be very honest. At least, that's how I think.

I’m so glad to read this! You hit the nail on the head. Pretty much everyone I know (at least in the tech/camera niche on KZbin) goes out of their way to be transparent and honest. But sometimes problem see “free product” and it leaves a bad taste in their mouth, which I understand. Fortunately most decent companies also go above and beyond to reiterate that they don’t want to interfere with objectivity. It’s a fine line that I think everyone needs to navigate for themselves to see what they and their audience are comfortable with.
