Just adding my two cents: I am an audio/video/music guy. I just got the Fifine USB mic for my wife for her work video conferencing calls. It is absolutely perfect for that. It’s cheap, it’s well built, it’s unobtrusive, looks good in the frame, and it sounds about the same as if I’d set her up with a much higher priced mic. The permanently attached cable is actually a positive in that context since it is one less thing to go wrong.

AWESOME review, Tom! Funny thing, I watched the video both on headphones and on my iPhone (11 Pro Max) and the Fifine sounded better on my iPhone! It's probably the highs that a lot of these cheaper mics provide a boost on, allowing us to perceive them as clearer and more mix-ready. But some people blame treble-accented microphones for listener ear fatigue. Being an audio geek, I would most likely not use it for professional VO client work, but it's really impressive. So much so, that I *could* even suggest it to VO beginners who are in need of entry-level equipment, which they will eventually outgrow down the road. As a fellow Mac user, I use LoopBack whenever I need to record multiple sources of audio. I don't know if I can record two USB mics on separate channels in my DAW, but I know for a fact that I can record or route as many devices and applications as I want to a virtual stereo out. It's like a virtual mixer! I also use it for client work. Whenever they are monitoring my performance through Zoom, I route everything into a virtual device that I have created in Loopback and choose it as the input for Zoom. That way I can play back what I recorded for them, share audio from videos or music or anything else you can think of. All apps of my Mac can be sources for Loopback. Super handy! Love your content! Did I say that today? Eh, maybe I did on another platform.

Ahh yes, the dreaded A/C interference. Unfortunately there's not a ton that can be done about it, but depending on the software you use, you might be able to add a noise gate or some kind of voice isolation to help take care of it (although sometimes those things end up sounding worse than the original background noise 😁).

I got mine on sale for like $20. I didn't realize it was 30 normally, but having had it for a few years now I would still be happy at that price. I've yet to find any mic that doesn't need a bit of EQ to work best (as you eluded to at the end) and with a little EqAPO tweaking people refuse to believe that I'm not on a _much_ more expensive mike. Haven't had any issue with the cable and that's on an articulating arm that moves all the time. Shame it's not detachable but so far it's held up. (Even in 2024 I'm glad it's USB-a not [c]. I still run into plenty of situations where a USB-c port isn't available but an [a] is, converting to [c] is also easy enough when needed.) For the overwhelming majority of people this will be a fantastic and simple to use product.

Hey Tom. You can use the "Audio-Midi" utility in the Mac's Utilities" folder and select both USB inputs combined into one Aggregate Device. @Vertshark2 жыл бұрын
@@snakejuce Unless you're trying to have more than one person recording at the same time, there's really no need to do so. I have a Sennheiser MK4 large diaphragm mic and audio interface for pro voice recordings but wanted to pick up a USB mic for down and dirty situations with a laptop, but still wanting to sound respectable. I figured this mic might be it. I am surprised that it seemed to have a little more bass to it compared to the Blue Yeti, but then again I am listening to this on a Bose Soundlink II bluetooth speaker, which is known to emphasize the bass frequencies. I will have to listen to this through headphones to get a better idea, but I also see a number of people commenting that they've been using this mic for a couple years and are very pleased. Hey Tom, I don't want to be the contrite know-it-all, just (hopefully) dropping a helpful tip; if you want to use multiple USB microphones and record each microphone to its own track, the easiest way to do this is to record with OBS studio and with plain old vanilla OBS, record as a .mov. You can specify which track each mic records to in advanced output settings. You can then edit the clip in Premiere or Davinci resolve (or others I'm sure) and export each track as a separate audio file, or as one mixed file. It's certainly the "poor man's" method, but when you're on a budget, sometimes you gotta get creative! Keep it up, I love your channel!
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Great point and super helpful to know! My biggest concern with these things is simplicity, and not everyone is going to feel comfortable opening multiple applications and developing a workflow around these issues, so that's why I generally say it's best to avoid trying to use multiple USB mics. But this is an awesome solution for anyone who doesn't mind poking around in a few pieces of software 👍

Great video. The Fifine is a superb little mic. I used it for a year or so with more than acceptable results. Though if you work in a noisy environment then it will pick up background sounds such as computer fans etc. It also has a little self noise, though nothing that a touch of noise reduction can't handle. I recently switch to the Samson Q2U as it has a more localised pickup pattern which helps with the environment noise, and virtually no self noise. But if I had a quieter work space I would have been happy sticking with the Fifine.
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
The Q2U is a really cool mic. I don't have one, but several friends do, and it always sounds great. The USB/XLr versatility is a huge bonus.
@FIFINE3 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, thanks for sharing your use experience! That's true. The self-noise level and the noise rejection of a condenser mic is not on par with a dynamic mic. Especially in a noisy environment, a dynamic microphone setup is a better choice if the budget allows.

Thank you sir! The honest answer is that I'm probably color grading my videos wrong. BUt I like the way it looks, so oh well. I use a plug in for Final Cut called "Cinema Grade" that makes it super easy to adjust colors and settings.

I have recommended this one to a faculty member, or maybe the one a little bit more expensive, but def that brand, it sounds really really good for a first mic... or even just a mic in general... and if you practice using it (making sure you don’t get too loud, too far, etc), I could be totally fooled that this is a pro mic. Very freaky, but it is dependent on user getting good at using their own equipment.

I had problems with USB mics because of the latency and also because most of them are condenser and I need dynamic. The options with an external mixer are awesome. When the space currently filled by Rode, Helicon, and Zoom for podcasting mixers becomes more populated and the average prices come down, I'll probably get one of those instead of the generic functioning USB mixers I use.

The Fifine K669B is the best! Since the cord is only USB, I use a USB Port - USB-C cable so that it can be compatible with my ipad and it works perfectly

I'm curious how you managed to reduce the background noise so much! I tested the product through garageband so it could just be the software capabilities could be different but would love to learn because I am wanting to use these mics for a podcast!
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
I think I was fortunate that there wasn't a lot of noise when I filmed the video, but keeping the gain as low as possible (while still getting a strong signal) helps. For regular recordings, I also use some processing in Adobe Audition to clean things up.
@FIFINE3 жыл бұрын
Hi ourpodlife, instead of testing out with different recording software, it's much more practical to have a decent setup before recording. Then you can spend far less time doing post-production. Using a condenser mic in a treated environment is the most recommended method, you can do it in a simple way of hanging up some moving blanket. If you don't want to bother, then try setting the dial below 60%, computer input at 80%, and keep talking to the mic within 5 inches. Even it's not used in a treated room, the background sound should be reduced by then.
@ptzzz2 жыл бұрын
Watched your review and a few others and last January I got a Fifine K669B myself. Early on I swapped the stand to one that can got higher and lower than the included stand. It's a lot better than the mic inside my webcam, though since its a condenser mic the noises in my area can get into the recording (and having a reflective room with no sound dampening doesn't help haha). Should have gotten a dynamic mic, but don't regret getting the K669B honestly since its pretty good and can pick up more frequencies than the webcam mic. I tend to use noise canceling for calls and noise removal effect when recording audio. Covered it with a few layers of socks later to prevent dust from getting inside the holes of the cover of the mic capsule and it helped a little bit with the plosives.
