at 0:34 I see there are different rode connections (stream, system, virtual, chat and main). Are those inputs? Could you connect different computer audio sources to those inputs? For example discord out to "Stream", Chrome browser audio to "virtual", game audio to "stream", operating system audio to "system"? then can you assign those inputs to individual faders? I asked a very similar question on your previous video, but this video get much close to answering that question. This could be a very handy solution to daily use issues.
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Some of those are form the Rode Connect app, which is different from the RCP. For now (as I understand it) you can send separate outputs to RCP Main and RCP Chat along with whatever is connected to USB 2.
@shortrhalf2 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck that's not exactly what I'm asking. Imagine (on your mac mini) you want to send audio from different applications to different inputs on the RCPII. So put discord/zoom on a fader, put web browser audio on a fader, put game audio on a fader, put music (ex spotify) on a fader. Currently I'm solving that problem in windows using Asio Link Pro which works, but frankly isn't reliable. If you switch the RCPII to "multi" mode your computer should be able to see each separate ASIO channel. Can this be achieved? If a piece of hardware/software natively supported this it would be such a solution to so many headaches lol.
@CoffeeTalkandTechJohnRyan2 жыл бұрын
To me this is the question I would like to know also. Being most of the 14 channels are hard assigned I thought rode would use 2 virtual channels to use to send discord or web browsers. Awesome video as well! Thanks so much for doing this one, massively helpful! So from what it looks like, the Rodecaster Pro II has two audio devices that show up on the main computer and one on the secondary computer? This Is a good start, but I really am hoping they'll add a few more in a firmware update. Most streamers who game need a channel for Discord, one for Spotify, and one for their desktop audio. As far as I can see from you videos about the RODECaster Pro II, the sliders aren't motorized. Does that mean that when you assign another input to the slider that the input directly uses the current value of the slider? And if so, isn't that anoying? Another question I have is about the smartpads. It seems that with the buttons below you can select another page. How many pages are supported? How do you keep track on which page you are? And how do you in a live setting remember which smartpad had which effect? The last question I have is, how do you setup / connect the RODECaster Pro II with the ATEM Mini? Do you use the Mic In on the ATEM for that?

It's usually a good idea to move the faders to zero when swapping channels just to avoid any issues with levels or clipping. The pads currently have 8 pages of banks.

I must admit, I love the newer unit! However, no matter how much I try and simply cannot figure ou thow to mix-minus correctly with Zoom calls. Amazing value you are putting out Tom. Thanks you so much. If, by any chance 😊 you are talking to the rode people, maybe there is a chance bringing up the internal loopback functions, to send different mixes to different stream locations internally. Basically just a matter of internal routing. Since RCP2 has enough processing power, it might not be too hard to integrate this. Additional functionality like this kind of routing would open up the market for streamers / (live) musicians even more for Rode. Presonus and Elgato have done it. I would hope this is on the Rode agenda for future firmware updates for this otherwise amazing unit. Thanks again for this great video Tom! 🙏

Can you use the pads for drumming?
@clemradio2 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid they’re not reactive enough
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
I wish, but yeah, they're not quite as sensitive as a sampler would be. But you can trim clips internally to reduce delay pretty significantly.

Super video Tom, including the jokes! I notice that the TRRS jack is no ,longer available on this new version. I use this a lot as an input for background music; is this what the second USB replaces?

Yep, the USB replaces it. I used the TRRS input all the time too, but I've been pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to adapt to the USB port.

How do you control the smart pads volume to have it fade in an out while live or for recording? For example when looping in intro music or for outro. The RCP I had the volume slider next to the pads for convenience. Great videos!!

You can still monitor your audio in transfer mode, but not record.

I also have 4 Wireless go units, and separately 2 Wireless Go II kits. Is it possible to just use either the 4 Wireless Go's or the 2 Wireless Go II kits with the Rodcaster Pro II? It would be strange if Rode do not provide options to support this configuration for easier travel options.

Right now you'd need an adapter to connect them to one of the XLR combo inputs, but I've heard rumors on the ol' internet of USB functionality in a future update.

Hey TOM! do you know how much storage memory you get with the RCP2 for storing sounds on the sound pads (now smart pads)? The RCP1 had 512Mb that would get full quickly because it only stored in WAV format with huge files , even if your originals were MP3 they would get converted into those huge WAV files.
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know for sure to be honest, so I’ll have to ask and see.
@Krealman2 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Thank you Tom, please ask them... Being able to store prerecorded interviews is limited big time by the space on the rcp1. Also ask them if there is a chance the sound effects or interviews could now or in the future be stored in the sound pad as mp3 files to optimize the space.

Great video thank you so much. Can you talk more about RECORDING without a computer. Where can you go with that? from the device to burn on a CD or send it to a studio as a mp3 for example please? Thank you again...
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
Once the file is in your computer, you can do anything you'd like with it! Most commonly, that means uploading it somewhere like a podcast host or KZbin. There are a ton of recording apps out there, some paid and some free. Logic, Ecamm, and Audition are popular paid ones, while Audacity, OBS, and GarageBand are free options. You can even use something basic like Quicktime to record.

Any chance you've tried using the Rodecaster Pro 2 SmartPads to midi control switching cameras/scenes in Ecam Live or Vmix? I'm looking to do a 3 camera live podcast with media playback. All the best. Really appreciate the production value and excellent communication of your podcasts.

I'm looking to transition from the GoXLR Mini to the RCP2. From what I've understood with a single USB-C interface you can get 1x Main 1x Chat channel - and have that controlled on dedicated faders. And then take the 2nd USB-C interface and you get another 1x Main and 1x Chat? Therefore I can remap the second lot to Music and Game/System audio should I need? Hopefully that's right?
@clemradio2 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid you only get one input with the secondary USB interface
@zenstrukt2 жыл бұрын

Two questions (if you know the answers)... Can you program the smart pads to manipulate the mouse (specifically to go to a certain screen position and click)? Secondly, if you have two computers connected, can you send these types of MIDI commands to either of them or just the "master" machine?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know there isn't a way to control mouse position (but someone smarter than me might know of a way). As for two computer MIDI, that's a great question. I don't know the answer, but I'll have to test it out.
