They are the most infuriating, slow and complicated to use cameras on the planet, but when you get a good shot and the camera actually wrote it to the card, the results were breathtaking. You can get a good LOG profile out of this camera in a very specific way. I think this camera is really best suited for video work given it's rig-ability and video output. You can attach an Atomos recorder via HDMI and record 4K, 12bit, Prores Raw. The Atomos is capable of real time converting the Raw output from the camera to Panasonic V-Log. Final Cut has a "Modify Prores Raw Settings" option and you can do a Raw to Log conversion with the click of a button... giving you the ability to grade in a standard Log workflow. I think if your interested in getting exceptional 24p, 4K video with Raw flexibility at an affordable price... get the OG fp second hand and rig it out with a battery and Atomos recorder. I’ve had an fp for three years and, it’s just another camera in my kit. I was never in a “should I get this one or that one” situation. When the fp came out, I replaced a Leica Q with the fp. The fp has Japanese build quality, is diminutive in size, is in the L-Mount alliance, and uses the same battery as the Q. I can shoot a lot of lenses on this camera including Leica S, L and M; Voigtlander M; and Sigma L. I use it predominately for stills, and it excels quite nicely in that capacity. There is a “get to know me factor” with the fp, but isn’t that true of all cameras? That shot of the guy that you took with the rolling shutter never happens. If I want to take fast moving action shots, I reach for another camera. However, it is possible to get some action shots if you know what works and what doesn’t. Overall, it’s a great camera to add to your bag(s), and the photos that it produces are excellent.

Why did I buy one. Best bang for buck for my needs. I think the name perfectly reflects what the camera is. Fortissimo - Big capability, Pianissimo - Small size, humble. But also the flexibility - rig it up with power dummy battery gimbal cinema lense focus pull go as big as you want it can handle all of it (CinemaDNG 12-Bit 4K DCI 2-hour non stop recording) or slap a pancake or small DC DN zoom lense on it and a few spare batteries for travel everyday carry and call it a day. The price for completely fully made and assembled in Japan is amazing value. For the third iteration IBIS will be at the top of the wish list and faster readout or no compromises global shutter (but cmon lets be real), flippy screen not needed prefer the solid feel of the current screen. From my own personal use the biggest drawbacks are IBIS and readout speed (banding in artificial light) both can be worked around but still will be nice to have on future iteration without sacrificing the size and weight.

The #1 reason I'm looking at the Sigma FP L is to use it with that Sirui Saturn 35mm 1.6x anamorphic lens, when when center cropped on the FP/FP L turns into 87mm. This allows you to use one lens to film almost everything because the downside of this lens turns into a home run. Sure the Saturn is clinically sharp and doesn't have chromatic aberrations that move your eye to the center like the Blazar Remus, but it's too hard to add VFX with those kinds of lenses so the Saturn is actually better for virtual production.

@jessehavok41819 ай бұрын
What made you sell it? Is the a7IV that much better of a camera?
@TacticalCactusMedia9 ай бұрын
@@jessehavok4181 I feel like most cameras in today's day and age meet the spec requirements to be considered 'good', so choosing the right one is more about matching a specific cameras strengths to the type of work you do. My work is 80% video, 20% photo for clients, and I also do content creation. The FP's image quality destroys almost every other camera I've ever compared it to, but it lacks a lot of other features that become important to workflow, ease of use, and efficiency. I use an FX3 as my main video camera, and as much as I loved the FP, I realized it was overkill for what I needed it for. Too much time was being lost trying to color match two cameras with different color sciences so I swapped it out for the A7IV. Now I have two bodies in the same ecosystem, lens mount, color science, etc.
@jessehavok41819 ай бұрын

@@jessehavok4181 Using the FP as a cinema camera is where it truly shines. When you can be behind the camera and rig it out a bit, you can really take advantage of the incredible IQ, colors, and CDNG RAW. Once you enter any type of run and gun environment or a scenario where you need to film yourself, it quickly becomes incredibly frustrating to use. If you are a solo freelancer running multiple cameras at once, the lack of timecode, continuous AF, and poor internal preamps for audio presents problems. You can't use the FP for streaming, podcasts, or as a webcam because you cannot charge it over USB-C while the camera is on. The FX3 in my experience is the perfect blend of incredible image quality paired with ease of use features that makes it much more applicable to a wider range of filming scenarios, at least for the work that I do. If what I did involved being behind the camera 100% of the time, I'd still have the FP.

The 12-bit video in this camera isinsane, the colors and flexibility in post is absolutely amazing, my only remark is the lack of 12-bit, 4K 60 frames per second.

Interesting. Bit I'll stick with my Panasonic GM1 (mft) for now. Thanks. toronto canada.

You need one of the smaller hand grips esp in the cold with gloves. You forgot to mention it was weather sealed perfect for your trip. I don't have the problem with the dial. But the biggest issue with the evf other than cost is a lack of eye sensor, and maybe not having the fw allow for record through it, but playback always via screen.

Looked it up to see if I could afford one…I’ll stick to my Fuji X-T3😅
@Cthames1239 ай бұрын
Stick to your Fuji. Even if it was perfect you’d have to buy all new lenses if you went to the Sigma because the mounts are different, or get a lens converter and hope the auto focus still works.

The non-L Sigma FP seems to me to have the sensor of A7III. They're the same size, same megapixel count, same pixel pitch size, almost identical iso range.

Does anyone know if you can sync two of them?

4:42 _"you can output lower resolution RAW files without the cropping applied."_ Can you comfirm this? I don't believe it's possible to reduce raw resolution without a crop or skipping pixels which would introduce serious moiré pattern. RAW Adobe DNG is the collection of untainted sensor data so this isn't adding up.

It’s really wild if you perform the flip-up screen hack that a guy has 3d printed the parts and instructions for. It appears to be quite doable and for me, makes it the perfect camera. I have not tried it though. Sorry no link but it’s out there.

No IBIS, no buy dis. Nice little camera, though, especially when a large MILC or DSLR is just too much... But I use my m6 Mk II for that, with my r6 II as my primary. Overall a nice, informative review, thanks.

"high quality lenses we know and love". lol. Maybe the camera should include that signature Sigma front focus we all know and love.

You forgot to mention it is only "Made in Japan" camera right now, no Japanese camera company now build or manufacture in Japan. Only sigma even nikon, canon, Fujifilm, sony and Panasonic are all being assemble overseas and have factory. But sigma only one company both the camera and lenses are made in japan 😁👍📸
@junichinomura48109 ай бұрын
@user-oe5jl2br6ubut still the consistency of the finished products are different from japan and other countries, even you compare your own country to made in China products. I know what I mean by that.

The camera may be tiny, but its hefty price tag tells a different story. Within this price range, there are plenty of excellent options available, not to mention the additional lenses you'll need to buy. I'll stick with what I have for now...thanks for sharing

I think I only would use it for video... for photo, don't see the extra value over the 'standard' Canon / Nikon / Sony camera's...

7Artisans sells a very much pancake-y 35mm L-mount lens. This could, in theory, become a perfect EDC powerhouse... maybe not enough to dethrone the GM1, but, given the sensor size, would easily outweight the cons.
