"gold-plating is evil" is what a project manager told me years ago. If you get something working and you get it working well that is more than likely good enough. Spending a week styling up some tiny widget or popup will never be better than fixing the broken login form that causes customers consternation 50% of the time they try to log in to your app.

To make a Matrix reference: in short we should strive less to be the Architect in perfecting the mathematical precision and focus more to be the Oracle in finding a working solution, even if fundamentally flawed.
