How to upgrade you Smart RC car to Hobbygrade!
So I pulled all the Bluetooth controls out and fitted it with a Hobbywing ESC, Better Servo, Softer Tyres & a 2s Li-ion battery. How much better was it?

That's cool, love the idea of buying toy grades to either convert or steal the body. My lads seen a hot wheels RC and wants the body but it's a bit wide for the 144001, but thanks for these vids, never considered finding toys for shells etc. Another thing learnt today Phil.

Ive converted a load of thrift store discarded toy models with cheapo banggood esc's. Run them to the ground and transfer the electronics to the next one when when all the plastic strips.

I'm surprised traditional stick transmitters aren't used much for crawling. You could get the throttle curve settled down easy with even a little programming of exponential or throttle cut.

It looks like it performs slightly better with the upgrades. You definitely could tell it's easier to control. Curious,are the rgt shocks the same or will they perform better if they fit? Oh and the music fits this truck perfectly at the end,lol.

Hi Phil, if that's an original HW 1040 ESC you just need to remove the jumper from the brake-settings to aktivate the drag-brake. Greating from Germany, Thomas

It's a 1625 isn't it? Jumper is for NiMh/LiPo rather than brake

First upgrade I made was switch to a 180 motor with high torque gearing. They have drivetrains for sale in China already.

That´s much better! Thank you for taking the trouble to do this. I´m inclined to agree with alucardF91, in that the primary appeal for me is this truck´s 2020 Jimny body, but I did want to see how well this chassis could perform, given a set of tyres and a proper control system. Quick, isn´t it?

Yes... the hard body is really nice. Lack of flex in the chassis is probably the main issue. I think it needs a 3s & some drift wheels 😅

Yeah, although I’ve left the balance lead & on/off switch accessible so you can charge it, but the battery would have to start connected

Hi, the link for the RGT tyres above are 68 mm diameter (according to the webpage) yet the stock Jimny tyres are 47mm diameter. Is the webpage wrong? And do you think the motor will handle 2S 7.4v ok? thanks
