Speaking of the MRI, I had one done for a torn rotator cuff and they told me I needed surgery. Even the physical therapist told me not to come back. I could have just given in to the surgery prognosis, but I worked through the pain and decided not to give in. Surgery wasn't an option, so I took it upon myself to heal myself. I'm 90% better. Doctors don't always know best about our bodies.

Honestly I don't understand the aversion to surgery for minor things like that. I get avoiding getting a plate put in the back if possible because that will fuck the rest of the back. But for example I had a meniscus tear as a teenager with locking in the knee from sports and after surgery to remove the tear I had 100% function back literally overnight. Nowadays I see the general idea is that this kind of surgery I got is generally not even done and all I can think is why the fuck not lmao.

@ The down time for rotator cuff surgery is a lot longer than knee surgery and the possibility of re-injury is high. My surgeon told me he had to have his done twice because he re-tore his🤦♀️
@r.davidsen2 ай бұрын
I haven't torn my rotator cuff, but I've had capsulitis (frozen shoulder) in both shoulder, and I just googled and youtubed stuff to find exercises to heal myself. Doctors are not useless, but they are not much help. I nearly managed to diagnose myself. Frozen shoulder was one of the three options I thought it was. Chiropractors and physiotherapists on the other hand are utterly useless. They like to talk, and have long consultations, unlike doctors who want to throw you out the door after 10 mins. Chiropractors and physiotherapists barely touches you, and they don't even find excercises or make a training regimen for you to do at home. They like for you to come back and do one new exercise for each time. They're just scammers to be honest.

How is it going? What is your diagnosis? , I have 5 months with a l5s1 degenerative disc desease with facet sindrome, I also have a pain in front of the left thight and tingling in my 2,3,4 toes same side (which doesn't make sense since It seems that I have no nerve pinched). Pain is at day and night not even at rest goes totally away (I need to take sleep pills). Pain never improved below 70% even getting an athletic body and almost 16 fat percentage. I've tried pt, totally rest (all my vacations) in bed after the third month "to heal" with baby stretches and excercise with no weight to "not hurt my cristal body" , I achieved no improvement at all. In past 2 days I'm here doing these multiple psoas stretching and the pain is going from 100% to all way down 30 %, it's ridiculous, never happened me before in all this pain story, such a miracle to me. My leg pain and toe tingling it's going away also, so it's giving me hope, I'm thinking of course I do have the ddd and the facet injury but what if the pain is mainly because the shortened and heavily irritated psoas? It seems it's my case. I hope one day to be pain free, to appreciate that idle state again.

I was struggling three straight years with chronic lower back pain, day after day. It is absolutely demolishing to be in pain soooo much time, mentally and phisically. I got out of plans, stayed in house so much time, gone through depression and assumed that was the life I had to live. Learning to keep moving and to know what exercises were good for me was key in my life. And I absolutely agree that recovery has ups and downs... What kind of exercises did you do brother?
@tenapics3 ай бұрын
@HendersonHinchfinch @jatingupta4026 For me, the pain started at the low back but the worst part was the sciatic nerve. I went to a trainer in a hospital, specialized in pain, which did a lot of mobility (in this channel I've seen most of the exercises I did), strength in specific muscles and neurodinamics. Neurodinamics, done veeeery carefully, was the key for sciatica. From there on, mobility and strength are key... and knowing that every now and then, the pain can come back. But that's just my personal case, everyone has there own one.

The thing that mentally broke me one day was just the realisation at 3 am and it’s dark, you’re alone and nothing can be done for you no one is going to save you and you can’t do anything for yourself. I was lying flat on the floor trying to get relief and I realise that this could be it.. forever with no off switch, like when you reach a point of complete fatigue of enduring the pain and there is no off switch. It felt like I was being tortured. But with torture even that has an end point but this is not going to happen it is never going to stop. I had about 8 different drugs from my doctor after that just to exist with as little pain as possible but it was as if I was outside my body watching myself live. I feel trapped between being in pain and/or being in less pain but not being fully conscious living my life.

Have you been tested for ankylosing spondylitis? I ask cause I suffered with lower back/si problems for over a decade with sciatica like symptoms going down my leg. First the doctor told me I had a small herniated disc bulge but that eventually healed and my symptoms only got worse. Then they put me on some nsaids, antidepressants, muscle relaxers, spinal injections, and nothing worked. I had told my doctor in 2012 that I thought I might have AS but they would never test for it. Finally in 2022 after I went to see my doctor and I told them I was feeling depressed because I hurt everyday and every step hurt, they finally tested me for AS and I tested positive for it. Now I have to take a biologic (humira) but I move so much better now and I'm working on my diet to cut out inflammatory foods. I also exercise and stretch regularly. I was kind of angry that I had to suffer so long before they would do a test that I had asked for back in 2012, but I'm grateful to be feeling better. I feel like the worst problems with this isn’t even just the pain, its the inability to do the things you love because of this association with pain on those activities. As well as the comparison to other peoples’ pain as “not being as bad as other people” and “sucking it up because I have to deal with it too.” Why can’t we ackowledge that we’re all in pain in some field and need some assistance or a moment to adjust rather than JUDGE and SHAME them for being in pain?

Yoga fixed this. You are so right in keep moving. Although I have to say if you thought nerve related pain was bad...Try vertebrae compression fractures. I bent down to pat my dog without thinking while in my brace and when you cant breathe and almost pass out you know your there. Way worse than nerve related. I’ve been making headway on my lower back issues (due to discovering another acct, backmusclesolutions) and you’ve just passed on more pieces of the puzzle - thanks!

Thanks for this video. I have had chronic back pain for years. It varies in intensity but it's always there. Two things I learned through my journey. There are unrelated drugs (osteoporosis medication is one) whose side effects are increased back pain and, because of the damage in my back, I went to physical therapy to avoid doing exercises that actually caused damage to my back, which I had done in the past.

Thanks Tom, needed to hear this today. I’m suffering with a problem shoulder, not back pain, but the same principles apply I’m sure. It’s so easy to focus on the pain and what you can’t do, instead of believing that you’ll get better. It sure ain’t linear!

Thank you! Loved this video. I'm currently rehabbing a facet joint/muscle issue with my mid and lumbar spine due to too many years of being older than I feel and refusing to behave like anything other than a big kid! It's been a 6 month adventure so far that's featured big improvements and equally big flare ups when I push too much too soon. But, everything you said resonates strongly - consistency with my very basic pilates/mobility is really paying off. There have been big improvements in my truly dreadful hip flexion and ankle dorsiflexion. To anyone else on this pain adventure, stick at it all. I'm back running and slowly getting there with cycling. I've missed one season of mountain bike racing and am determined to be back at it soon. Stay positive and focus on the progress! More of these videos please Tom!

Such a powerful video, Tom! Thank you for sharing your story in such a way that can truly help so many people start to see things in a more productive and hopeful way. I’ve been following you now for quite a while and have found you and your methods to be very valuable and helpful. I really appreciate what you’re doing! It has helped me a lot with much more minor issues than yours, but still very helpful! I trust that many others will see this and benefit as well. I am so glad that you have worked through this and are doing what you were meant to do and feeling well. And yes, I enjoyed this format.

This was a really helpful video, I’ve had intense lower back pain since having my daughter (emergency c section) 14 yrs ago. 10 yrs prior to that I had a labral tear in my left hip which was never dealt with. I’ve now recently been told I have arthritis in my lower back and both knees. As a result I’ve been obese my whole adult life and the mental barriers you talked about with your injury resonated so much! I’ve tried so many time to start diets and exercises but stop after a couple of weeks due to no results and pain. Your video has given me things to think about and I’m feeling more confident to make another start (using your videos as a guide) and to persevere and focus on the little improvements I can do. Thank you!

I am in my 70s. A few years ago while suffering with a UTI, I fell in the bathroom and the position I fell into bent my knee in a way that I would not have been able to. Since that time, I have struggled with walking. Slowly I peeled away factors - the first was that my vitamin and mineral supplements needed to be updated. Once I had those corrected, I discovered that my good leg no longer hurt all of the time. But the damaged knee is the remaining pain. You are so right about identifying little improvements - exercises said to be useful haven't stopped the pain. But again you are right - continuing to try movement is the way that I can wake the next day feeling a little less in pain. I so want to be back to that person who walked an hour every day. Thank you for your story which showed me that others have pain they are working through.

After 20 years with 2 slipped discs & sciatica, the following removed my pain. 50 sessions of traction on my back, many exercises & use of a roller for months, use of a Shakti mat. I do daily stretches, use the roller & Shakti mat. If I stopped, my discs would close up again & I would be in pain. Keep moving, everyday.

Thank you Mr. Morrison. I like hearing about your fight with back issues. Mine have gotten better over time. It began with a herniated disk many years ago. Since I work as a concierge I sit a lot, so I got a sciatic pain and It was really severe at one time. When I got to work I had to put an ice back to numb the pain and then when I got home from work the same thing with the ice pack or heating pad. Now, I try to move around as much as I can at work and not be confined to the chair. Now I'm finding exercises that work for me and I try to consistently do them. There are a bunch of exercises I learned from you that really make a difference on how I feel. Thank you again.

I have been suffering from terrible back pain since I was 17 years old, after I fell off a roof. Over the last five years, I have tried a lot of stretching through Pilates and KZbin videos, along with strength and resistance training at the gym. Despite these efforts, I still experience chronic pain in my lower back and hip, and I have been plagued by piriformis syndrome and sciatica for many years. Now at 61, I live with this pain, and it makes me quite miserable.

There can be little subtle things with your form, people I’ve met stuck in that stage sometimes don’t understand the difference between hip loading or stretching, or bracing or just holding a position, can be a case of doing the right things but not getting the benefits, always worth revisiting techniques to see if there’s anything you missed!

Outstanding video and was very helpful, passed onto a colleague at work, as he is in a lot of pain. In the 80s, I was 17 and after a bad diving board accident, I was told I would never walk again, I had a lumbar puncher done and lucky no infection but was extremely painful. Over the years, I would be in extreme pain, and off work for weeks at a time. As you said in the video, it is very depressive, to worry if anything will set the back off and you're off work again, so you don't do things. For the fear of the pain. After seeing an amazing chiropractor, who popped me back into align after seeing my MRI and disc was half hanging out and main nerves pinched, I couldnt even touch my knees when bending down. My first alignment I passed out for 20 mins, but it got easier after that. After doing some of your exercises, Yoga, swimming, stretching and walking, Plus 5 years of chiropractor work, I can touch my ankles. Aiming to touch the floor lol. Ive gone in reverse, my youth was bent over or not able to get off the floor due to my back going and now in my late 50s, Im full of life and running. It can get better, if you take the action and learn how to look after your body. Thank you for this open and honest video

My back pain is usually mild and bearable, but there are "bad days" where it's excruciating and I can barely get out of a chair. Turns out that weather is a factor: on rainy days, atmospheric pressure is low, so there is a pressure differential with the synovial sacs, and they don't function as well and irritation skyrockets. Good to know, because at least i know that when the weather improves so will my back pain!

So what about those of is who never experience up’s and downs? I NEVER have good days. My back pain in my lower and middle back is constant, 24-7, always there, no matter what. I’ve tried so many stretches, even walked up to 5 miles daily, but the more I try to do, the more pain control I need. I have had anterior lumbar interbody fusion and also a microdiscectomy, neither of which helped. I actually got worse after fusion surgery. I’m 57 and have never felt worse. It’s a tough way to live.

Keeping the muscles working so things feel supported is so important yeah! I always try to keep in mind how bad it could be the next flare up if I did decide to wait it out and not do anything for a few weeks, I just know how my body reacts when it doesn’t feel strong and it’s really not nice, I would always pick strong with pain over weak with pain
