I feel like I just watched one man building The Great Pyramid - just when I think "that's the best a human being will ever do" (at the guitar), someone like this comes along, and produces a shimmering, rippling, waterfall of chords and notes in the sun, throwing off sprays of color and furious undercurrents as it falls, and carries your heart away. I am sitting here stunned - I can't believe what I just felt, heard, and saw. This man is a force of nature on the guitar. What a privilege to hear - I feel like I was just machine-gunned with a hundred Harmonic Riffs, and could die a happy man, as my heart flies away on his artistry - and the excitement he feels while expressing it. All this music on a hollow piece of wood, and 6 steel strings - all the subtlety, speed, precision, harmonic color, control, mastery, and poetry, with notes flying out across the shivering air, and dancing with each other before they can even fade away. I heard him say, in an interview, "I have one pedal on stage: a tuner with an on-off switch." And I thought to myself "All we have done is make music easier and emptier, with all of our technology." I remember listening to Leo Kottke in the late 1970s ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIGXeaqmepudi9U ), and thinking, "how can anyone be this good?" Tommy Emmanuel is my answer - but Kottke is still incredible, and can sing and sustain this guitar excellence. We are all very fortunate to live in these times, with so many incredible players. I bow to Tommy Emmanuel - and still, to Leo Kottke.

The most peerless guitarist on the planet today. I've heard all that's been presented to us over the last 6 decades and there is no one that comes close to this man in passion, ability, musical exploration and exploitation and general entertaining finesse. He sooo connects with his awed audience. The first time I experienced this man I was stunned and hooked. Long live Tommy Emmanuel !!

Absolutely true. No wonder he was voted the "Best Guitar of the Year" by guitar magazine twice in a row. As for me is still the best guitar in the world. He is a trend setter. We are still waiting for someone to come along to take his place when TE is no longer with us.

I hope you mean you do more than just strum it now! I hope you didn’t mean you gave up! 99.8% of us can never be this good, but his passion is inspiring to just keep playing, have fun, and make it fun for those listening! I personally always struggled with acoustic guitar to “jam on”, I mostly strummed and used it as a rhythmic instrument, and always struggled playing lead on it! Yeah, I had some crappy guitars with super high action, but I can’t blame it all on the instrument!
