I saw the title for the video and thought. "Two minutes is an awfully short time to show every gig he's ever played." A genius of a player.

@chirpybee You're welcome. Glad you appreciated it. Tommy's awesome, and I loved meeting him afterward. I told him that my dad was a real fan of his, and had just passed away, and I was hoping he would play "I still can't say goodbye". He said he almost chose to play that, and that the song meant a lot to him too when he thought of his dad. Cool Guy!

Yes. True. They hand make all his guitars and have released the TE models over the years. They still hand make all their guitars. I own a left handed acoustic. It just gets better as the years go by. :-) Thanks for showing this, it's absolutely awesome and quite a find this evening. :-)

@bentile1 his technique of alternating between strict locked wrist strums and half-strum/half-single-notes-picked with the wrist and fingers is just sick ! That's the kind of stuff where you're so good you CANT even think about what it is your doing, you're just making music straight from the heart to the hands.

Maton Guitars does in fact have a Tommy Emmanuel Line, complete with the inlaid CGP " certified guitar player" plate. He has played them all his life, ( among many others, fender telecasters, martin, takamini, etc) but now exclusively endorses Maton Guitars.

showing off.....how funny. i've seen him multiple times. it's called gifted, Hall of Fame capability. i'm a rocker, and an old one. i've seen the best in rock, Stones, Zep, Alman Bros, Aero, and countless others. but he's the only one that can introduce his entire band,. tom thumb, the rhythm section, the lead player, and they are all on his left hand. Until you see him, don't comment.

I think if you will check that Chet Atkins awarded the Certified Guitar Player to 6 players: He did not award any to two of the best that was dead, and that is Mother Maybelle Carter and Merle Travis. Steve Wariner, Tommy Emmanuel, Thom Bresh, Jerry Reed, I remember as earning the award, but I believe there are two others. If I'm wrong, Sorry!

I'm pretty sure, after playing for 30yrs and seeing Tommy in concert many times - and playing many of his songs (reasonably well) - that this particular video is sped up 10-15%. I've studied Al Di Meola, John Mc Laughlin, Shawn Lane, Chris Impellitiri, Micheal Angelo Battio, Frank Gambale, P Gilbert and all usual suspects in alternative picking mastery and I don't think this second section is humanly possible. Good fun, but mis-leading to those who don't know. Compare it to other vids yourself.
@TyneGibbs1213 жыл бұрын
@Anne1878 Unfortuantly, not true. There is almost nothing wrong with this video. This is how the song was originally written, and how many cover it today. The CD version I beleve wasn't as fast the second time around, but still is just as grovey at high speeds. This particular video is one of emmanuel's best version of this song today.
