I first heard Burl Ives sing this, probably 60 years ago. It is an American folk song. Tommy Makem is a terrific singer. I've heard him sing alone, and with the Clancy Brothers, and he does justice to any song he sings, Irish songs, and others. His rendition here is lively and authentic. Thank you for posting this. I found myself singing this song to myself this morning, and decided to go to KZbin to see if I could find a version. This version certainly is fine!

My folks sang a lot of Burl Ives. Fortunately. This song was my first intro to sex education, altho I didn’t know it at the time. 😊
