Thank you Tomo. Good video. I will soon be 63, still learning new things on guitar and about life. It keeps my mind sharp. Many years ago somebody told me to “remain teachable”, that was one of the best pieces of advice that I ever got from someone. Peace and be well.

Congratulations on 500,000 Subcribers Mr Fujita! Thank you for this video, I'm like many people who's work is a lot of manual labour so these stretches really help a lot. A video I would really like to see is advice and how to use diminished arpeggios and the scale in a blues. I hear it can be used in a blues context even in a 12 bar blues as great players like Robben Ford and Josh Smith use it pretty often, but I really struggle sometimes with how to use it and how get good phrasing with it because i often end a phrase or lick on a note that sounds pretty horrible and doesn't work very well. Thank you!

Musicians suffer from a higher than normal rate of injury(it can be a perilous pursuit). I severed 2 tendons in right hand which was 6 months of physiotherapy,,left index finger joint inflammation, right shoulder pain. I found a book about the TAO and how to breathe properly and the various techniques to help control pain , maybe TAO for musicians would be a benefit if one could demonstrate how to adapt it. Thanks again Tomo because you give us solutions that we can use everyday!

Should never hurt to play. Excellent exercises. Over my time of enjoying life, I’ve smashed and broken fingers. Dislocated a shoulder. Constant bruised and banged. Ever watch a cat or dog when they gently awaken. They streeeech out before they get up and walk. So very important to meet the day with a good stretch before one rolls out onto the floor. Patience with repetitive foundations. Relax. Breathe. Be well ~ in❤&🕯

@@TomoFujitaMusic it's so important. People don't realize all the micro-muscles involved. Plus us elder ones just starting out have the bad habit of wanting to tip the guitar and hunch over to watch the frets. So much harder to play chords that way and so hard on the back.

I learned some similar warm up stretches in an Aikido class in the late 80’s while I was in Japan. After practice we also did some cool down stretching and breathing. The breathing was called balanced breath. Inhale, hold for a few seconds, slowly exhale, hold a few seconds, and repeat a few times. Imagine healing energy while inhaling, all soreness and negative energy going out while exhaling. This breathing is also called box breathing and is taught to special forces to help stay calm under fire. I wonder if you did any breathing exercise in Karate? Thanks for posting.

Idea for content, How to tell if tubes or caps or whatever is going bad in your amplifier. The sound and visual, and maybe smells, that give indications of coming and present amp problems I've bought used amps, and know very little about set up on them, but I know one of them, Fender Deluxe 85, sounds like it's got an issue, and I'd like to be able to correct it. Possibly mention where tubes and what tubes can be used in a pinch Thanks for your time and Wisdom , Tomo

There is no magic like "If you learn this, you can do this!" 1) Play simple chords 2) Learn triad inversions on each chord (123 set strings) 3) Play melody on one string. 4) Be creative! Daily yoga that always hits core, hips, hamstrings, back, shoulders, and neck + 3x weekly light core strength exercises. In the beginning it's better to do 5 to 15 minutes of focused physical fitness each day rather than nothing. Just like music practice. Longer is fine too, but consistency and reasonable goals work in the long term. Also, don't wait to address injuries and add in appropriate PT exercises used to address the injuries for long term prevention.

I used to pick up my guitar cold and play for hours and never had any problem. Then I hit 50. Never warmed up. Started hybrid picking. One day both of my elbows started hurting. I had tennis elbow in both elbows!!! So I had very bad pain for two weeks. The pain went down, but I really couldn’t play for another two weeks. So there’s a month of not even touching my guitar. Then I ease back into it, but I always felt this tightness in my forearm. But another year later, it happened again. Right when I had a bunch of gigs lined up and I had to cancel everything. Now I warm up religiously. You do not want tennis elbow!!!

Thank you for sharing. A lot of players does similar things (when young!) but after 50... things are changing. Very easy to get tennis elbow by over use. I practice chromatic scales religiously! So that I won't get any hands problems. Thank you!

Its easy for people to think that this stuff is unimportant, and I was one of those, as a younger man. But now, at 63, my arthritis is so severe, that nearly half of my day is spent trying to make my hands pain free enough to play guitar. And music is everything to me. To younger players in particular, take this stuff seriously. You are going to live much longer than my generation, so you’ll need something to keep yourselves occupied.
