Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Күн бұрын

The album, Wildflowers, released in 1994, is commonly vaunted as Tom Petty’s most personal, most heartfelt, and most revealing artistic statement of his career. Recorded over the course of two years and originally intended to be a two-disc album, it was perhaps the most creative period in his life.
The release of Wildflowers & All The Rest finally gathers together all 25 songs from the original recording sessions - the 15 songs from Wildflowers, plus the 10 songs that were left off the original release.

I am Japanese. I bought this album at a record shop when it was released in Japan. It's been 30 years since then. I still love this album. This song is the first song on the album. That day, I admired him for writing such beautiful songs, and even now, that feeling hasn't changed at all.

Thank you. This song reminds me of my home in VA and growing up there. The black crows and quiet country roads, my friends, and the girl who lived over the hill who went to my school. I think of her when I hear this song.

I was in Japan this year. For some reason I decided to listen to this record while riding the train and looking out the window, watching the countryside roll by. It was such a unique and soul-searching combination of feelings.

This song. I had just left an abusive marriage in May of 1995. My sweet friends took me along to their annual Memorial Day weekend camp out. Well, I swam naked in the pond and reveled in the sweat lodge afterward. I met a dear man who wanted to share my tent. Alas, he did not. That weekend, I was among the Wildflowers and will always remember this song as an anthem of my release to freedom.

I have been through many hard ships and I'm sure so have you I am not trying to shove this God stuff down anyone's throat especially your I have blamed God for what has happened to me and my family and through my journey of recovery I have worked on my relationship with him. I recently learned in a Tom Petty documentary that this song was written during a period of deep personal reflection. He played this song straight through the first time and never found any reason to edit. I think it was his most honest, purest song from the heart.

My mom died in June after a yearlong battle with ovarian cancer. She was ready to go and wanted me to let her go and I just could not. I had been on a "Wildflowers" ( the whole album) kick pretty much since right after her diagnosis. But after she told me to let her go, it was like I was hearing this song for the first time. I was able to let her go because of this song. She is among the wildflowers, now, and this song is helping me to heal and still feel her presence. Thank you, Tom. God bless.🌼🌿🌻🌾🍃🌼🌿

I was in shock and honestly dont know how I made it home but the song helped me and it has since then, meant allot to me. This song came on the radio when I was driving today. It’s a song I have always liked. I really felt it today and I think maybe I was meant to hear it. I have been feeling so low. I’m gonna be 45 day after tomorrow. I have had estranged relationships with my parents and haven’t had much family life over the years even though I am very close with my own children who are now entering teen years. My husband cheated on me about 7 months ago. He’s still here but it has changed me forever. I don’t always feel my friends are genuine. I don’t feel many people care about me. I don’t have a career. We moved 5 times and I have always been home with the kids. I was feeling like I don’t have much to be proud of, no career path, not many truly meaningful relationships. I have been covered in sadness and felt in pain. This song came on and I felt the lyrics in my soul like I am a wildflower. I’m not meant to be in a manicured flower bed with big family gatherings, a career, a problem free marriage. I grow in the woods and spread and blow in the wind with the challenges that have come to me. And I do the best I can and for that I can be proud ❤️

Same here. Had to be like 1999 on the lawn at The Woodlands in Houston TX. Had this group of 5 or so friends back then, thick as thieves right out of high school. One of them had a birthday that weekend and he and his mom had bought tickets months before with some other friends. Me and another guy were not in on the ticket purchase so we were bummed out, sitting on the couch all by ourselves when the phone rings, couple dudes backed out and 2 tickets up for grabs. We jumped up and hauled ass. Best concert ever. Everyone fro. 16 to 60+ all in harmony in the great lawn. Lots of hippie lettuce being shared, everyone happy, amazing music. I've been searching for that harmony at uh dress of other concerts since then. Never been matched. Met this hot chick and dated her all summer. Best day ever.

The harmony and happiness in the crown and on stage was infectious. No fancy props needed. Just him and the band. We sang our hearts out. Was lucky enough to take my kids to a couple concerts. I will never feel that nature high again when I would see him floating around on that stage telling us to join in. And always the thank you…thank you very much at the end. Love you Tom!❤

@@lyndaclancy7643 God opens your soul, your spirit, if you've read JOB in the bible, it's basically similar. God allows evil to test your faith in him, you must learn to Walk through the dark times of your life, from childhood, forgive and heal your inner self. you learn to read energy as well as people's motives. That's just a taste of being an empath.

My brother passed in 2020 from a long 10 year battle with addiction. He liked Tom Petty. I can totally see why my Dad made a DVD our first Christmas without him. It was filled with just pictures of him. Some I had never seen before. Wildflowers was one of the songs he used for background music. Rips my heart out and makes it flutter all at the same time.

One of the many ways to appreciate TP&H is to pick one layer of a song and just pay attention to it for the whole song. It helps me appreciate just how many layers there are, and how fantastic each musician is. This time, I focused on just the wonderfully fluttering piano. These guys were spellbinding.

My brother is a marine. Not active now but once a marine always a marine. I am also a veteran. He's 11 years younger and we borh struggle. This is our favorite song. He was a gunner and his hearing is damaged. He hates talking on the phone so we send each other songs. We call them "Petty partys" instead of "pity parties." Today he left on a new endever. I sent him an Andrew Peterson song. The guy is amazing and so very comforting. Please listen and he will comfort you. I sent my brother "Rest easy" and I know am gonna learn morse code after watching. The video is so amazing. Also, "Be Kind to yourself" is great.

Please tell your loved ones, you want this song, for the time you fly free... until then, live strong, live happy, and smile at every day, sunny, or rainy, and every duck on the pond, and every flower... there are so many things in this life to be thankful for, until we make that journey. But always know, we may not know each other in person, but, you at least have a little old curly headed gypsy woman in Cincinnati pulling for you, and on your side, and hoping every day, you choose to find something to be joyful for... sending you lots of love... 💜💙😘💙💜

My parents both grew up with Tom Petty and remember him when he was playing with Mudcrutch in the early days as an up and coming band in Los Angeles. Fast forward 20 some odd years, my mom played this in memory of my father when he passed and had the first stanza engraved on his headstone. We did the same for her when she passed. My fiancé and I agreed on it tonight as our song the moment we walk back from the alter. Its bitter sweet to hear it as I'm always reminded by them when its played. Im glad to see it resonates with so many others!

Like many others here, I have lost a child. It will be five years this August. This song resonates with me and the grief I will always carry. My son was wheelchair-bound and oxygen dependent by the time he passed - at 17. His younger brother would carry him up and down stairs. If I close my eyes while listening to this song, I can picture a world where he could run and breathe like any other young boy.

Here in March 2023. Still my favorite song from Tom. I listened to this song upon release from jail in 1996. I deserve somewhere I feel free. I hope Tom made it to the right side of eternity I pray for you. I later learned this peace and freedom in my lord Jesus. I hope Tom also found this peace and freedom. A song that meant so much to me. I wept at his passing.

My wife died from colon cancer on 10/09/2022 This song seems fitting for her. We were married 26 years. Knew each other 32 years. She battled cancer for seven years, went through over a hundred chemo treatments, 3 clinical trials. It's almost coming up on 3 weeks since she passed. I still don't know what is going on. I still can't believe that my love is not beside me. I don't know what to do. I was the one who told her that she was going to die. The cancer had spread to her lungs. So lost.
