I'm curious if you would ever do a video about the early 1700's Caribbean such as the conflicts between the English and Spanish fleets that were present there and also on the enormous history and influence of pirates at that time? Did you know that in 1713, Nassau, the largest city in the Bahamas today, once had a 10 to 1 ratio of pirates to regular citizens? And that because of this and the lack of a governor at the time, many famous and influential pirates such as Charles Vane, Thomas Barrow, Benjamin Hornigold, Calico Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and Edward Teach (Blackbeard) proclaimed Nassau a pirate republic and established themselves as governors. I would love to see if you were interested in making a video on this!

There were five religions during the colonial period. Judaism, Protestantism, Brownest Dissenters, Catholics, and Quakers. There was evangelism going on. Baltimore Catechism, Westminster Confession of Faith were dominate in religious life. Even Jefferson asked Congress for money to evangelize the natives in Kentucky.

What no Portuguese? Where do you teach? I would love to take one of your classes! I got like 2 classes to go to finish my history degree (which will be my 3rd worthless degree, but gosh darn i love history!)
@tomrichey8 жыл бұрын
I love history, too! The Portuguese did not actively colonize North America, so they don't really figure into this particular narrative. I teach at a high school in South Carolina and occasionally adjunct teach at a local community college, as well.

You mention Britain's Thirteen North American colonies but prior to the Fall of New France to Britain during the Seven Years War there were fifteen British North American colonies. The other two being Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. The title says "...of the Americas..." thus the other British New World colonies should have also been mentioned.
