Hi Tom, first of all, I would like to thank you for the variety of videos regarding this espresso-machine. Helped me a lot! I am fairly new to espresso and I have an issue, which I can only explain with my beans or the grinder of the LaSpecialista. I am using your linked basket from IMS DL2TH26E with the Delonghi standard portafilter that comes with the machine. I am using grind-level 1, which is the finest and I am using 18g of ground coffee. I use relatively fresh beans from a local roastery (100% Robusta, espresso roast C.U.L.T.D México Finca Santa Anita for anyone wondering :), I use WDT and tamp with a leveled „spring“ tamper (like a stamp). The coffee bed looks and feels good, however, I don’t reach optimal pressure and the extraction is 5 secs too fast. 35g in 20 secs. The coffee does not taste as acidic as one would think, but it’s not very good and the crema is also too thin (which is related to the lack of pressure I assume). Do you have similar experiences, where the problem is related to the bean and/or the grinding capabilities of the LaSpecialiste-grinder being insufficient in terms of fineness of the grind? Best regards from Hamburg!!
@TomsCoffeeCorner3 ай бұрын
Moin, moin! Well, this machine does not grind very fine, so you might actually have to go back to the included OEM basket, which is tapered, and adds to the pressure of the extraction. But yes, also due to the very long pre-infusion, I find that this machine extracts very quickly afterwards. Maybe try the OEM basket, and see if that works better. Otherwise, you could consider the H32 basket, for a larger dose, but that's just more money to spend. Good luck!
@Cashlugi3 ай бұрын
Moin! Thanks for your fast reply! Highly appreciate it. OEM-basket works very good with the same settings and coffee and delivers almost perfect results. However, the „stamp-tamper“ can’t be used with the OEM-basket, because of the tapered form (it gets caught on the rim). That’s why I initially opted for your recommendation. The basket is perfect and I see why you recommended it, which makes me wanna use it consistently from now on. I don’t recall, if you mentioned your coffee in this video, I will try a different bean with the same settings. I think that could work, since you do it in this video, even with a smaller dose of 16g. Again, many thanks to you and have a lovely week!

I did a ton of research on a lot of machines. I kept coming back to this one. What I did not see though were the MANY negative review regarding the air pump. I had purchased this as a Christmas gift for myself that was also supposed to double as our Christmas Eve party coffee maker for all of my family members. Upon opening I was very excited, it has a sleek design and it perfect for ease and user functionality.. or so I thought. HOURS. We spent hours of time trying to get this to work. Our first issue was us not being able to flush the system. Which this issue was NEVER addressed as a warning within the manual. After many KZbin videos and some creative wording we found it. It like many other of these machines has an air pump issue. The correct verbiage is “air lock” we tried everything and nothing works. Unfortunately all of the techs were closed for the Holidays so we have a $800 machine sitting as a massive decor item yet useless. We also had issues with the grinder working although it might have just also been due to us never being able to flush the system because it appears once you do that the other functions work or are supposed to. Needless to say I am ANNOYED. I will wait until Monday and be optimistic but I already have a Terra Kaffee automatic espresso maker in my cart on standby for when I dissapointingly might have to return this machine.
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Well, all espresso machines need to have their systems primed, if they are new, or been sitting too long. The best way to do this typically, is to let hot water out of the spigot, or the steam wand, depending on the machine. No matter which machine you choose, I hope you find your satisfaction, and some good coffee! Cheers, Tom

Yes, try 8-10 grams for a single, and grind a little finer. Puck prep is key here. They tend to run faster, too. Yes, I always do a double, but this is an industry standard, except in Italy.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Whenever I try to use my coffee machine (I have the same one, EC9155), the pressure indicator goes into the red zone and coffee barely drips. I'm grinding about 10 grams for the small basket and 12 to 15 grams for the larger basket. I've tried grinding on setting 3 (I've also tried 2 and 4) and I barely apply any force when tamping. The coffee beans are fresh (only 4 days since they were roasted). I don't have a proper distribution tool yet (I've ordered one), so I use a sewing needle to try and remove any air pockets, and I always tap the portafilter to try and evenly distribute the grounds. The machine is brand new (barely a week old), so I highly doubt I need to do a descaling cycle.

The semi- auto coffee machine at work makes “coffee” but I feel it’s either a Lungo since I increase the volume to 8 oz while it’s extracting, and it’s definitely ejecting espresso pucks. Or I’ve seen some people on forums call that a “cafe crema”? Either way, I want to find a machine that I can use to make that at home. An 8oz “coffee” via espresso that has the crema. I find that decaf is harder to dial in, and often it's quite old, as it sits on the counter for months. I'd check the side of the bag for the date. I pour from one jug to the other, to incorporate the milk better. Sometimes the puck gets stuck for me, too. It doesn't bother me. Cheers!

Handsome video, but i dont know which machine buy, which is better between this Delongi, the Lelit Anita PL042TEMD and the Sage Barista Express? (all with similar price) I hope you ll answer me, thanks for your job ;)
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andre! Well, I would suggest the Anita or the Arte. The Sage is nice when it works, but I have read too much over the years about reliability issues (internal leaks), so that I wouldn't want to recommend it. The Lelit offers a PID, which is super nice, but the craftsmanship does reveal the cheap price tag. But if I had to guess, the Anita will give the best espresso. I like the Arte, because it has the best ergonomics and looks in my opinion.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks for the exhaustive and quick answer. Then I will bet on the Anita since sometimes I find it at a discount at 380 €. Hope it is worth the price!

I find it's semantics, and local preferences. What you describe is a traditional cappuccino, but most people want it creamier, like a latte.

Hello Tom. This is great video. I found very detail about Delonghi but I want to buy coffee machine. I did decide yet. I'm looking also Philips EP5447/90. Which machine have better coffee taste?
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Well, the Delonghi is an espresso machine, while the Philips is a bean to cup coffee machine. The Philips will not grind fine enough, or provide enough pressure for a proper espresso. But the Philips will be a good choice if you want a coffee crema, at the press of a button.

Hello Tom! Great video. I’ve just purchased the botomless portafilter thanks to this video, my shots were being made really good (according to me) with the portafilter that came with La Specialidtia . However, I’m making a mess with the botomless (too fast, spraying too much and set the grind to #2) as suggested by you. How many grams does each basket or the three would you recommend? Thanks Tom !
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
hi there! 16 grams for the double. Fresh beans are a must for bottomless extractions. I mean freshly roasted. Cheers!
@maloriek72872 жыл бұрын
Great video! Just got this machine and need help lol, do I still use 16 grams if I am using the portafilter that came with the machine? It came with a single and a double, are you using a single? Also in the guide that came with it it says to grind at a five setting for dark roast but if I want espresso that is to coarse right?
@TomsCoffeeCorner2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes 16 grams for a double, and maybe 8-9 for a single. I only use doubles, as they are much more forgiving, and I prefer doubles anyway. I would suggest grinding fine enough, that you get 32 grams in 20-25 seconds. Cheers! Tom

is the integrated grinder sufficient for bottomless portafilter?

@@TomsCoffeeCorner The issue is that I am currently having Dedica with steamwand mod and bottomless portafilter + espresso hand grinder. I am thinking of something like Specialista to ease the workflow and not having x different machines all around.. If this grinder can grind fine enough for bottomless then its good.

Thanks Tom! Appreciate your videos , really helpfull! I bought this machine two months ago, it’s been a ride, love everything related to coffee. Just a question. I ofcourse bought a scale, I don’t know the two espresso basket size (it’s says 29/22 whatever that means) Usually weight 19 grams. Since I have a weighting machine to see how many beans I’m using, the dose level on the machine is obsolete right? Or does it have some type of quirk . Lastly, how many grams would you recommend with single and double shot baskets. Thanks !
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Hey Leo, aim for 16 grams in the double, and 8-9 grams in the single. Don't bother with the knob on the machine - rather weigh your dose. Have fun experimenting! Tom

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks for replying Tom! Im currently using a medium roast, with the grinding at 2. Espresso 1:2 comes out averaging 27-30 seconds so at least i know im doing something right, however, the pressure always goes too high. Hey Tom, thanks for the great explanation! Do you have compared your machine to others? Would you recommend the Delonghi La Specialista over the Sage Barista Express? Hi! Well, I think the Arte is Delonghi's answer to the Barista Express, which is a best seller. I prefer the Delonghi for it's longevity. I have worked on both machines, and I prefer the engineering of the Delonghi. The Sage has a higher grinder resolution however. Cheers! Tom

@@TomsCoffeeCorner I ended up going with the Sage Dup Temp Pro and the Eureka Manuale. The Sage is fantastic however the grinder is incapable as a single dose grinder. It doesn't grind fine enough for me and therefore even when I fill up the basket and tamp as best as I can, the coffee just flows too quickly. I have set the grinder to just offset from the burrs touching, the closest safe zone if you like but still to coarse I think, especially looking at some of the vidoes on YT. I get around 40ml from 16g in around 22-23 seconds. I want to aim for 30 seconds, although the lattes do taste great, think they can be a bit better if I can slow the extraction down. I even tried the dual wall basket to slow things down but with no luck. So I will be returning the Eureka Manuale for this reason. In your opinion, would the Smart Grinder Pro be a better option as a single dose grinder? Appreciate your input.
