my name is Tom David Frey. I'm half Swiss and half German and have lived in many fantastic places, from the United States to Israel. Somehow cool.

I wonder when the Mavic 3 Pro will be out? I do really like the Air 2, the video and photos do look big improvement on the original Air and even in some situations the Mavic 2 Pro but the tracking still isn't quite good enough imo. The Air 2 doesn't keep up with you if you are moving too quickly (like on a pedal bike or skiing or heaven forbid something motorised) and it doesn't have enough sensors (no top or arm/side sensors) to be able to see things coming to reliably move around them like say the Skydio 2 does for example. I'm sure the Mavic 3 Pro will up the anti even on the Skydio 2 but could 6+ months away still. This lack of sensors does produce some creative limitations too beyond just banging into trees above you that it can't see. For example the Air 2 can't fly right along side you to film you because it needs to be point itself a little forward to use it's forward facing sensors to see things coming, so what it does is hangs back and off to the side as a compromise. It still looks ok but that fully parallel shot is way better. At the end of the day the Air 2 is significantly cheaper than the Mavic 2 or Evo 2 or Skydio 2 so it was never going to have everything and the Air 2 does move things along a lot with it's much better designed controller, OcuSync 2.0 transmission system, 34min flight time, improved image quality from the IMX586 sensor, RAW images, 4K60, 4K HDR, 1080p240, and although not perfect the tracking and obstetrical avoidance is still improved. I guess at the end of the day, many people are happy to pay more for a phone every 2-3 years so maybe these aren't too expensive if you think of them in that mindset rather than waiting and waiting until there is the perfect drone with everything you want which my never come because there will always be something over the horizon that would be really cool to have on them. Which is an interesting thought, where will drone development go in the next 10+ years? Obviously things like flight time, image quality, tracking systems, obstetrical avoidance and raw speed will all be natural progressions for them but I think zoom lenses (or multiple lenses) will become more common as they are doing on phones right now as this opens up much greater creative options. But I wonder what other things might get added in the future that we haven't thought of today?

Question.... The hyperlapse & panorama & VR stitching.. Can that be done on the DJI Mavic 2 Pro....? I’ve got Mavic 2 Pro but I’ve not seen an option to do these techniques & being the Pro you would think it would be on this model. I'm only 7 minutes into this video and already I'm writing a thank you for details such as cooling air intake grills and strain relief cable coverings for the swivels on the arms. Actually, I'm very curious about those air cooling intake grills. You mention them perhaps excluding larger drops of rain, for example. My understanding of fluid dynamics have me doubting that. I far too often end up landing in places with grass or even, dang it, sand. I'm unconvinced these intake grills will help more than hinder, perhaps by being more easily clogged up (closed) by various debris. I'm glad you brought this seemingly small detail to our attention so that future owners know to watch out for my mentioned possible problems. Now back to the rest of your show...

I've been on the fence about this drone since I've been seeing short KZbin videos, and I was kind of hoping for a longer review like this. This was exactly what I needed, I believe it's pushed me over the fence. I've been flying a holy stone hs700 for quite a while now, so I am very confident with my drone pilot abilities so I can get a better drone, so this thing came at just the right time because it ticks all of my boxes including a price that I feel is exceptional. if you think an hour and a half is a long time to charge a drone battery, the one from a holy Stone takes 5 and 1/2 hours. Needless to say I bought spares there too

Drone Shots I’ve got the same question. I have read that it is the hardware which enables ADS-B. Only in the states. When you buy the drone now, it is not possible the put it in/on the drone later. Typically DJI. A little bit disappointing I think.

Tom, I always love your videos. They have such straight forward, good, info, but there's those light hearted moments, that make it more interesting and relaxing, I guess I could say. I really like your style. Boy, do I ever want this drone!! Seems like almost more "bang for buck", than I would have expected at that price. Love the slo-mo ability, extra flight time, and all the rest. The only thing that bothers me, is the drab look, just like the Mavic series. Don't get me wrong, I kind of like that "military" gun-metal grey look, but I really loved the stylish modern look of the previous Mavic 2. Sorry to lose that look, but they certainly upgraded the drone a bunch. Follow me looks super steady, and I love that it found you again, when you ran around the shack. Nice review thank you. I’m excited to get mine I ordered in! I was surprised how much I actually enjoyed my Mavic Air and actually sold quite a bit from that drone. Fine art prints up to 40” for $2k range so this should be an improvement. I really wish they wouldn’t imply the 48MP stills are anything but jpgs not RAW which would have been amazing. I’m sure they are holding that for the Mavic 3 when it drops I would bet. I just saw your sample files can u confirm they shoot 48MP raws?!?? Aloha

Thank You Tom. Very good review as always.I have downloaded the 2 largest files and discovered some noise in the dark parts of the trees when playing the files on my 50 inch Panasonic 50EX750b. I have also later edited and added music with the same results.I’m playing the files directly from the USB port of my TV using a dongle.Maybe it is my TV who knows...I’ll later try to download the mavic 2 pro files and compare them with the files from the Mavic Air 2. Personally I think the Mavic Air 2 is indeed a brilliant drone for the price.
