I think it's jumpy because of the interval and because it's flying (kinda) close to the trees / ground, so the jumping can be easily noticed. I think the 8k was made to take hyperlapses where the subject is maybe more distant, like a mountain or something, so the jumping wouldn't be so noticeable...

Great video all around, but a huge part you missed in the analysis is the fact you were analyzing these next to each other unedited. The entire point of more pixels is more information and thus when you go to edit images or video you can expose more of the detail such as the flowers in the one video or the detail in the trees, etc. You were simply just analyzing unedited frames versus one another. There’s some other good videos on KZbin showing how regular HD images and video can look somewhat better at times compared to 2-6x the pixels before editing in lightroom or darkroom but when you go to edit the higher resolution images you can bring out way more detail and not wash the image out compared to the refusal 1080p images, etc. So in that regard you missed that part of the analysis of this comparison between the types of hyper lapses, though you did nail how much the sensor plays a role. Thankfully we now have the sweet spot for this drones sensor with the new update that brought us the 4K hyperlapse. Though with that the same phenomenon exists when comparing 1080 to 4K as you’ll have more data to pull out of the frames when editing it. But this information you shared is probably most useful for those who don’t want to edit anything at all and want the best looking on average, though to those people editing is so easy these days with a tablet and downloading lightroom or darkroom so to those of you who don’t want to bother please give it a go as it’s never been easier for novices! Again, great video you content is definitely helping me gain a better grasp of things!

@wchafe14 жыл бұрын
What's making the video so jumpy is that the Mavic is unable to maintain a constant altitude. It's constantly drifting up and down from frame to frame. This causes the perspective of the image to change a lot because you are so close to the ground. There's no way to correct for this in post production. This is made even worse in the 8K mode because there's so much time between frames. Try some hyperlapses with the drone much higher and I think you'll find that it's a lot better.
@Pergidulu4 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Also make the drone travel further between shots. That was travelling like 50cm between shots which it probably can't do accurately. Better to really get it high and get it moving a lot between shots to get it smoothed out.
@ivanekprochazka4 жыл бұрын
I was about to write the same. It's a very wrong assumption mentioned in the video, that stabilization in post would make it better. There's no way to stabilize if perspective has changed, it's physically and geometrically impossible. The drone would have to maintain the strait line within centimetres threshold. You would do much better with a long pole or a cable way if you wanted jitter-free hyperlapse.

One question though. The hyper lapse used for the promo material with the night scene with the buildings etc, is super smooth. How did they get that right then? And is this only when using the mode of setting up a start point and end point, or is the results the same for the other movement modes? Personally this was one of the features that I would actually want a drone for. And if this is the case, what other drone is better for this? Number two, for someone who is not a professional video editor, I need some kind of a one button press feature to remove the jitter as it is the last thing you want... What software will provide that?
@Dcrainmaker4 жыл бұрын
For the promo I’m gonna bet they either shot it with something else, shot it in 1080p and upscale, or stabilized the crap out of it in post. GoPro for examples this past year shot most of their Hero 8 video on Hero 7 gear. Such is marketing. 🤷🏼♂️

I figure JPEG and RAW the most used. May have been Original JPEG RAW. I have to look again. But the resolution is no longer in the settings / ... Just click on the resolution at the bottom right. Chose 1080p, 4k or 8k. Then choose the format.

Thanks JJB. I think this tutorial is "JimDandy". Helped me a lot.

Can you do this but have the drone be higher in the air? Perhaps it being further will make the 8k look smoother? Obviously, it being further will most likely look good, and if that means I can only really do 8k hyperlapse for faraway objects than that is fine. Thank you for this video though! I am currently waiting for my drone to arrive. A bit disappointing to hear about the 8k but it's okay! I am sure a firmware update will fix some of the issues, and if it never gets fixed then oh well, 4k will satisfy me enough!

Would be nice if they gave us a 2.7k and 4k option for hyperlapse.

Would it appear smoother if a longer distance was chosen?

Forgive my ignorance, but is it at all possible that the crash from your active track video might have caused underlying (subtle) problems such as some of the issues you pointed out? Or are you pet confident in your professional assessment of the why's and how's of those issues?

I did some before as well. No different. In talking with multiple people at DJI, they believe my assessment was “fair” (their words).
