What the developer has to say about the game:
"Graviteam Tactics: Mius-Front - tactical battalion level combat simulation. It is a sequel to Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star and Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943.
Game is comprised of two modes:
Operational - turn-based mode where you can shift and concentrate forces in the chosen directions, resupply and replace units, repair and refuel vehicles.
Tactical - real-time mode where you are conducting fire combat with the enemy, capturing territory, destroying vehicles and the enemy manpower.
Four large-scale operations for the Red Army and Wehrmacht with realistic organizational structure. The campaign features more than 100 detailed vehicles produced in USSR, Germany, US and UK. Over 140 sq. km of realistic landscapes were reconstructed from topographical maps and photo and video materials.
-New enhanced UI: streamlined interface of various panels, radial orders menu and other enhancements.
-Interface appearance and customization: three variants of appearance are included, customizable unit markers (Red Army, Wehrmacht, NATO).
-High replayability and advanced AI, which selects the best strategy based on behavior, not a predetermined script.
-Advanced management of forces in the operational phase: reinforcement strategies and management of reserves.
-Statistics keeping: performance of each unit is recorded (kills, losses, awards, etc.). After each battle, damages and condition of forces and vehicles are shown in the after battle statistics.
-Battlefield simulation: realistic vision devices, smoke screens and flares, creation of trenches, explosion craters. Remnants of previous battles remain on the battlefield until the end of operation.
-Realistic soldier behavior: each soldier has several essential parameters, such as experience level, stamina and morale, which influence their behavior and effectiveness.
-Detailed weapon modeling and realistic ballistics: bullets and projectiles follow ballistic trajectories, taking wind, temperature and other parameters into account.
-Advanced armor penetration: modeling based on ballistic histograms without simplifications of probabilistic methods, generation of secondary fragmentation fields takes into account many parameters, such as the change of the field shape in space, fragments and armor characteristics, armor thickness and damage conditions.
-Complex vehicle damage system: engine, suspension, sights, weapons and targeting mechanisms can be damaged separately, affecting the combat capabilities.
-Destructible environment: almost everything can be blown up and destroyed, from landscape surface and buildings to vehicles and enemy defensive installations.
-Advanced control of the off-map artillery, featuring various fuse settings and shell types.
-Formation and movement modes: lines and columns, movement by road and covertly, infantry following behind tanks, setting a delay, fire sectors, etc.
-Automatic smoke screen laying: units set up smoke screens when enemy is spotted.
-Dynamic change of the time of day, light sources and weather effects, influence the course of battle, visibility and area passability."

good example of how to successfully attack over open ground without being cut down. great video as usual

top notch content! keep em comming. perhaps your AT guns didnt work because you have the external targeting command off (in the commands the head with the gearwheel in it) this allows other units to spot for them.

It's the range. Pak38 in GTMF has a range of 1.5km when ordered to shoot prority targets, similar for AIFC (external targeting).

My understanding is that to capture a square in the operational map, your troops must simply outnumber those of the enemy in that square at the end of the battle. The individual objectives within that square have little/nothing to do with the result on the operational map. Your 3 depleted companies that occupied the towns did not outnumber the surviving Russian troops in the square, the bulk of your forces remained in the adjacent square in their deployment zones. It's a frustrating system that results in a lot of tedious battles over the same ground, but still 10/10 would watch.

The key points on the 3d map are not affecting the outcome. However, it’s not the number of troops that counts, but rather their ability to project firepower (zone of control parameter weighted by the firepower). Weird thing about this particular battle is that the map at the end had the village as captured. But perhaps because the capture-able chunks on 3-d map are finer than those on the operational map, it was not enough to flip the possession for the latter

Never mind about 3d results not matching the one on the operational map, I just didn’t take into account the fact the Tonci plays with a flipped color scheme :) So no issue there - the village is under the enemy control on the 3d map too.

It has more to do with zone of control, not number of men

The operational map result is basically due to accepting a ceasefire. The enemy is pausing his attack, not pushed off the tactical map nor losing ground. Besides, German BGs are not ordered to attack in the operational map, so the game considers it a local counterattack which the units will eventually fall back to the original position, leaving wounded and fallen soldiers in enemy territory.

I notice in a lot of your playthroughs that you fire all set barrage ammunition at once. You could always try a gradual bombardment over time, that would maybe serve better as blocking or harassing fire.

@@Tonci87 Instead of all the rounds firing immediately, in a fast pace, maybe you can make them fire slower... In other words: same number of rounds, longer time to complete. This should help against waves of infantry that will cross one area over the course of a whole battle.

FYI at 20:32 you mention the F-22 gun being mostly an AT gun when they are in fact field guns, it just happened that the soviets gave them proper AT shells combined with the small calibre (for a field arty piece) made for a penetration wise decent AT gun that would get access to HEAT shells later in the war to keep up with increasing armour and extend it's usable range. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/76_mm_divisional_gun_M1936_(F-22)

“Later in the war”, one would be hard-rested to find this gun, since the production of these stopped, first in favor of M1939, then in favor of Zis-3. But you’re right: it was in fact inconvenient to operate in AT role due to the elevation and traverse controls being located on the different sides, and thus needing two people to aim them.

A couple of Questions and some Suggestions. Q-1) On the summary after the ceasefire, on the first page, I saw one category which you did not discuss, which seemed to show you LOST a lot of something. All I could see in the 'box', on pause, was "ha" which I assumed means "hectacres". Yet you gained ground, or at least did not lose any. What gives? Q-2) Related to the above, how do the game mechanics work? If there are, say 4 x 'squares' in which to do battle, do you fight in one square from, say: Noon to 6PM. Then in the next square from Noon to 6PM, and so on, and the battle "line" does not reset completely until you finish all four boxes, at which place the game is NOW at 6PM? Bit confusing. Q-3) Do HQ units have any effect? In most RTS games they do. What is it here? SUG-1) KZbin compresses the image, so even with a 4K TV, we do not get the clarity you get on your gaming computer and monitor. This is Okay for most things, but when you are spotting something off in the distance, we really can't see it. You do zoom in many times, just a reminder to do it a bit more often. SUG-2) This is a fun suggestion, and you may or may not know how to do this. During the set-up when you are arranging your next fight, I would love to know what Level of Command you ARE "occupying" when ordering units about. What I think makes this interesting is that this is what is called a "Meeting Engagement". This means that the Generals and Staff probably haven't arrived yet. So, Colonels, Lt. Col.'s, Majors... who do you suppose is organizing these troops, and setting up the tasks and goals for units? Love it, keep it going!

It is an interesting question about “who” does the player represent, and the game does not take a stance on that, unlike some others: for example, in CM, you are very clearly a god, and in CO2 - a highest level on-map unit. In GT though, there is no such clarity. HQ in 3-d battle is abstracted as few trucks. While it does let you access divisional artillery on-call, you probably don’t want them in battle, since they provide supplies between turns, and are easily destroyed. I don’t think I follow the battle timing question. What’s a “line”? The time passed in the battle does move the time when the next battle starts: say your first battle went into the evening, the second will start in the evening. Although there are some caveats I can’t recall now. Perhaps something who played recently can chime in.

@@arkadiy9321 I raised this latter point because if I read the "ha" sector of the battle report correctly, then the Germans LOST ground, and a fair amount of ground. If you remember the original setup, there are areas to the north of the battle map, with German units he can see, but not control. Also, there are units to the south that he can see but not control. He was only able to organize and fight in a small sector of the original battle map. When he pulled out at the end to look at the overall map, there was a Russian attack in a different sector, NOT the sector in which 'we' were active. So what I am wondering is this: Is the whole map active and fighting continuously, with action progressing in the areas of the battle 'line' which he does not control? OR does he get to fight battles in each sector of the overall map 'his' way, first, then the battle 'line' gets reset and continues. -- Hope that's clear! --

@@jamesfrench7394 Ah, thank you for clarifying, I think I get the question now and the answer is a "No" Germans lost control of the "upper right" node in the square [3,3] (you can see that comparing 8:58 from the previous video to 48:28 in this one) - that's in the current battle's area (from [1,2] to [3,4]). Visually, It's about 25ha, so no other changes are needed to account for the ground changing hands

Others have already responded to your question about the lost ground. Your remarks about the chain of command are interesting though. In every strategy game I know, you are graced with a Birds Eye view of the battlefield and have access to all the information much more readily than an commander in WW2 would have. That is a necessity’s to make the game interesting since it would be quite boring if all you had were situation reports. What this game does differently though, is that it has a chain of command simulated. Information flows from the most superior commanders down to the individual units. So keeping commanders close to their men is very beneficial. There is more to it. You might want to give orders, but you need enough command points to do so (the value in the top center). This value, and how fast it replenishes, is a representation of your command cohesion. The better your units are set up with telephone cables, radios, signal flares, or simply good old shouting connecting the local commanders and their units, the faster the command points will accumulate. If you try to give too many orders, overloading your lines of communication, the value will plummet and you won‘t be able to give any new orders until it recharges.

Watching this video made me think something extremely morbid (also maybe inappropriate considering the nationality of the devs). I was debating with myself if all those extremely close calls of artillery and mortars falling right next to enemy infantry and them surviving was realistic. And then i thought, a simple civilian like me could do serious research on the matter with the thousands of videos from drones from the war online. Literally thousands upon thousands of them. Feels so unreal sometimes watching all that footage taking place right here in Europe (and Europe not bothering as much as it should, but that's a whole other topic). Anyway, those were just my ramblings. I always wish every Ukrainian everywhere the best of luck and a swift victory against the bloodthirsty invader.
