I am a massage therapist. I always tell my clients to do strengthen exercises as well as stretching. Weak muscles become tight. Weak muscles develop adhensions. Weak muscles make the other muscles compromise and it is a chain reaction to other muscles going out of wack. For example, weak Gluteus medius can cause plantar fascia pain due to the calcaneus being overy everted when you walk or run. The old term: Plantar fasciitis. If I have time, I tell them to seek a doctor, but look up the benefits of: Magnesium, Calcium, B6, B9, B12, E and C. Whole concentrate. Your green vegetables and avocado, nuts. They help with oxygen efficiency in the body which helps them with their muscles. But of course, I tell them seek a professional that can help them first, because they may have some complications due to their health. Nice informative video.

I like the tennis ball against the wall “massage”. I found that putting the ball in a long sock, before using it, will help the ball from constantly dropping to the floor. It’s not easy to keep the ball between you and the wall.

I've had chronic pain since the age of 17 years old. I've been diagnosed with fallen arch from a GP, mimimal scoliosis from a chiropractor and rhomboid weakness from a physical therapist. I've asked a psychiotherapist once why it feels like i'm always pulling my lungs everytime I breathe in and she said that when you have weak muscles, your diaphragm muscles work harder to expand. I have stiffness from low back to the neck pain. After a nights sleep, I always feel like I never even slept. It really does affect your emotional and spiritual well being. I'm 35 years old now and it's gotten so that I've gotten use to the stiffness of my back. I've tried the excercise i'm not completely cured but i've felt relieved on the back base of my neck and between my shoulder blades. Thank you

Please, please listen to this, I had most of my adult life neck tension and horrible -tension- headaches. With lots of yoga and pain killers I started to feel better, but since last week I started again to feel my neck so tense that I couldn't turn my head -in any direction- I did this morning Dr. Beckstrand exercises and I improvised a rod similar to the video plus putting hot towels on my neck . . . O.M.G. I can now rotate my neck in every direction with no pain at all. THANK YOU so very much for teaching us that there is hope, when nothing. . . nothing!! worked before for many years. Thank you for the superb videos!! I am helping my husband who is incarcerated and he does not have any equipment at his disposal. Having never been in jail, he has run into some discomforts of which he couldn't have known to prepare for. Reading books to pass the time, his posture must be an absolute wreck, I'd imagine. The "can do anywhere" exercises are the perfect solution for him to be able to help relieve the constant (worsening) knots he's been struggling with. Recently, he has been getting frequent tension headaches, but with my part as messenger and your videos he won't have to suffer any longer. Thank you again!! Jared your videos have been so helpful and informative! Here’s my pain story- A few weeks ago, I had the worst pain in the middle of my back and numbness and tingling in my left hand. I have always been prone to knots in my neck, tension headaches, and some knots under my shoulder blades. But this pain was almost as bad as child labor! I went to the emergency room and had MRIs done and it came back OK. Xrays did show mild scoliosis, and a mild reverse curvature of my cervical spine. The pain was so intense I couldn’t sleep more than three or four hours without waking up in pain. I was prescribed all sorts of medication! I have Medicaid so my options for a good physical therapist were limited! Going to a Chiro. and getting massages helps but so have your videos. No one had showed me how to do the types of stretches you have here! I am still wondering where my pinched nerve is coming from. Doctors said that the pain was muscle spasms that were compressing on a nerve...but they didn’t tell me which of the muscle groups that are spasmed is causing the pain...

To this day it is in a knot. I have started to do these stretching exercises, which pull the scapular area as well, and I am hoping and praying to get relief soon. I also have a frozen shoulder that came after the surgery. I have a foam roller that I have had for way too long. Probably should get a new one, but if it isn't broke...

Why don’t you ask your patients to agree to a video of themselves carrying out their exercises, especially whilst giving instructions and offering guidance. If not, then you have the option of asking a family member to assist you. I assure you that any current or potential new clients will appreciate the personal touch when you mention that they’re actual patients, and even better if you are able to inform them of their progress. Your involvement is sure to promote a sense of professionalism. Sorry for being so presumptuous, but I’m sure you will benefit. Peace.

Starts at 3:34, heating pad (vasodilator), stretch, work the muscle (shrug hold relax), good posture (chin tucks and pull neck back, ears over shoulders), use foam roller lengthwise to stretch, do wall angels (helps fatigue muscles and posture), do wall slides (slide towel up and down wall, promotes elongation and blood flow), massage either by a person or using a tennis ball between the body and wall on the sore area, use self massage stick such as theracane (uses acupressure). These are the exercises in a nutshell, but to do them well, you should watch them.
