I’ve been taking Tongkat Ali for a few weeks now and the only negative side effect I have is sometimes I can’t sleep. That’s it. The pros outweigh the cons to me though. I was falling behind at work and this has really helped my performance at work AND in the gym. Like with all herbs, they have to be cycled. Never take herbs for a prolonged period of time, not because it's dangerous but simply because the body adapts to it and the herb loses it's effectiveness. That goes for Tongkat Ali, Aswaganda and Pine Pollen tinctures. I cycle these herbs for over 10 years now and at 55 years of age I still hit it in the Gym and I feel better than in my 30's.

The headaches are most likely due to estrogenic MOA/ responses which have a parasympathetic effect on the body, thus leading to a drop in blood pressure and vasodilation which is what causes headaches. Simple counter measure for this is either exercise, cooler room temperatures or a stimulant like caffeine in which will cause vasoconstriction and balance it out.

Apparently a healthy level of testosterone increases fluid in the joints and is very good for them, it also reduces inflammation, and eliminates pain. So it sounds like tongkat ali could potentially help the joints OR hinder them, depending on how it's taken and how the body reacts. Personally I will start my own experiment tomorrow. I'm a female looking to treat symptoms of low testosterone. My estrogen is at the top of the healthy range and I'm not worried about blocking some of it.

It might because actually t levels are less important than the ratio of t to cortisol. A lot of people go to these age medicine and clinics with already high levels of testosterone and get more which works because you increase the ratio but there are plenty of people with a lot less levels of testosterone that are fit and so on. This is in response to the lowering of t.

The hairloss part, doesn't estrogen cause hairloss? Hairloss typically occurs later on in life, when dihydrotestosterone levels fall, and estrogen levels go up. So too much estrogen in the scalp, and not enough dihydrotestosterone to nullify the estrogens effects, sounds like the most probable cause, because if left unchecked excessive estrogen in the scalp leads to...fibrosis of the scalp, and goodbye hair!

Insomnia is probably caused by either its the estrogen or cortisol pathways, not dopamine. The potent but short lasting cortisol suppression in the morning can mess with your circadian as cortisol is one of the main regulators of it. Taking it in the evening helped prevent insomnia for me. Also, both low and high estrogen activity can cause insomnia and tonkgat may be selectively blocking the wrong receptors here. Tongkat is a very "dirty" substance in that it has a lot of active chemicals and metabolites with potentially contradictory effects, non of which are that well studied. I'm pretty sure it can have a pro-estrogenic effect in some contexts. It's essentially a SERM.
@NutritionLibrary2 жыл бұрын
I mean, maybe. But overall TA appears to have a net negative impact on estrogen signaling and blood levels via receptor modulation and aromatase inhibition. Low estrogen signaling can definitely be associated with irritability and insomnia. No doubt there. But this in no way nullifies dopamine as being a potential culprit. It’s more than likely a combination of factors.

This doesn’t really relate to the video but they’re questions I’ve had since finding your channel recently. 1. With gains, even gf oats, causing negative health reactions and that you primarily advocate for fruits and meat, how does someone build muscle? Seems like a major uphill battle to get gains on fruit. So why does someone looking to build muscle and strength actually eat? 2. Recently Andrew Huberman talked about how spiking glucose levels before you workout causes a decrease in the release of growth hormone during a workout. What are your thoughts on this? Does this also apply to during a workout? Is it better to avoid drinking or eating anything that would spike glucose before and during a workout?
@NutritionLibrary2 жыл бұрын
Growth hormone is NOT a primary driver of muscle growth. I would actually advocate for the opposite. Concentrating carbs around the workout helps provide glucose for high intensity activity. Depending on your genetics, if you are having a hard time getting enough carbs. White rice, white potatoes, and organic homemade white bread can good options.
@pentathelite182 жыл бұрын

What if your taking this and taking vitamin D, C, with calcium and zinc along with omega 3’s would that help with a lot of the joints and bone side effects ? Just curious cause I’m thinking about taking this and ksm-66 as well As far as cycling would taking Tongkat Ali on like a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule be good or just once a week ? Also with the estrogen intake would eating Salomon be good seeing how it’s high in that ? Again just curious as well Love your videos I’m an exercise science Major and I love the info in your channel, I’m also a CPT as well (Certified Personal trainer), love that your channel sticks to the science and isn’t just all opinion based

Is black cohosh effective to fight against the side effects of tongkat ali? Because black cohosh increases estrogen.

Could anyone please tell me what Tongkat Ali and what Turkesterone to use? Or where you bought them? There seem to be so many (bad) choices in the market...

Bulk supplements brand. Take 400mg to 1 gram per day. Start at the low dose for 2 weeks and if you don't notice much, then increase it and wait a week or two. If you cap the powder, it's 1x 00 or 000 capsule per day. I recommend getting a capsule making tray. I can make about 150 pills in 30 minutes, using reliable and cheap bulk supplements powders, rather than buying some sketchy probably bunk brand off Amazon. 90% of Amazon supplements are fake -- trust me, I'm in fake Amazon review groups run by Chinese folks, and they're always farming fake reviews on supplements. Like all the time. Don't start with a high dose. It takes time for the body to do things.

Are these documented and well known side effects ? Or just anectodal? If so I might stop taking tongat coz I’ve been dealing with joint pain for 2 years
@NutritionLibrary2 жыл бұрын
they are anecdotal, bases on consumer review, and clinically mechanisms of action.

Can you do a video on the evidence in the European food additive safety study that suggests Tongkat Ali extract is genotoxic to the stomach? It potentially causing GI cancer seems like a big deal.

I believe the study you are refering is this: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34987621/

According to this study Tongkat Ali extract is genotoxic (possible cancer from mutations). However, that could be caused by the solvents used in the extraction process.

Interested to know if anyone here has done bloodwork and seen positive number changes from tomcat? On paper it seemed to do nothing for me in terms of testosterone (though may have had an effect on oestradiol), but of course there are always 10,000 factors involved when it comes to these sorts of things so keen to know other peoples' experiences.

Love the video and the information. Could you do a video on testro X from UMZU? I am considering their product, but I want to know what I am getting into. All the info from their site seems a little bias.

Isn't estrogen neuro-protective? So blocking the signaling and or the aromatization of estrogen could be detrimental to brain health.

Holy shit. The amount of information you just shared is freaking incredible. I've only been seeing all the "good/amazing" benefits and wasn't even aware of how exactly this supplement worked and what the side effects were. Glad I found your video. Do you think it would be smart to start with just 100/200 mg per day as opposed to the max 400 which is recommended ? Just too see how the body will react, and if it reacts badly in one of the ways you've mentioned, it shouldn't be as severe. I am a dude that has pretty low energy and sometimes struggle to find motivation to get up and do shit, I'm always looking for ways to counteract this, most effective seems to be caffeine but I quickly build up a tolerance to it and taking tolerance breaks from caffeine is pure misery so I'm really hoping there is something in Tongkat Ali that is going to make me more energetic and motivated. Thanks for the info :)
@xdave42772 жыл бұрын
Hey Niko I'd recommend 100mg that's good enough just make sure to take breaks like one week take it everyday and then 1 week again and repeat 👍🏼
