Your way of explaining- vocabulary, speech, diagrams, visuals is amazingly helpful!

Brilliant video. I'm a speech-language pathologist and I'm faced with parents concerned about their kids having tongue ties all the time. Your video is the clearest one I've found: easy for parents to understand and comprehensive for health professionals to use as a resource. The visuals you've selected for this presentation are perfect when it comes to illustrating what happens during a tongue tie. I am always looking out for open-mouth breathing when I do my speech assessments, and I have always looked for tongue ties as well. However, I did not know there was such as thing as a posterior tongue tie. I had only been checking for anterior tongue ties. I will be screening for posterior tongue ties as well during my assessments.

I am the "pH RDH" a I love this education and will rec this video for my patients to watch. I have had wonderful experiences with screening for correct tongue posture and tongue tie where lives have been changed due to referrals for diagnosis. This is so important and truly can make a difference especially in a young childs life. Thank you

You helped clarify a lot on this topic for me that I could not get from other videos from other presenters about tongue ties and posture. I will definitely look through your video catalogue. I appreciate that you are clear and to the point and yet thorough; the diagrams you provide are helpful. You managed to explain without gimmicks or distractions or rambling. Thank you! 🙏

Glad you're helping folks know this is a thing to look in to you can help them with! I found out about this due to Dr Chawla referring me to Lindsy at Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy in Camas who is working with me on my TMJ and neck tension challenges and breathing correctly. Seems like a very corner case scenario but is helping! Also found your videos very useful and validating for my own confusion on how this will be addressed. Thanks again!

Thank you for this informative video. My teen has ADHD, and has sleep problems. He does have a tongue tie. I took him to the ENT to see if he needed a sleep study. However, the ENT found that he has a deviate septum on both sides. He is 15 1/2, so I am getting a second opinion to determine if he is ready for surgery (if the bones from his face have finish growing). I will also ask to examine his airway. Thank you so much for showing the x-rays, that provides more information to help me prepare for his appointment. Most days he doesn't sleep well and his behavior is difficult. On the occasional days he sleeps well, it's like he is a different person. Sleep is so important, my hope is that once we address the problems he has with sleep, his ADHD will be easier to manage.

I hope his sleep improves soon! 🙏🏼😊

I have the same condition. His deviated septum is related to his tongue tie, he cannot hold correct tongue posture on the palette bc of the tie which has affected his facial development. He needs this cut, not surgery on his nose. Look into mewing and myofunctional therapy. Do not do the nose surgery or any teeth extraction or orthodontic treatment.

Oh my goodness thank you so much. I know for sure my son has adhd and my daughter is actually exhibiting some symptoms lately. I am on my way to getting them both to the ent but I will also get them to the dentist soon to see about tongue tie and hopefully their behavior and moods will improve.

When knowing the child is having issues do you start with an ENT Dr or Airway assessment with the dentist (they recommend pallet expanders for most of their pt.) ? Adenoids were removed in early childhood as well as tongue tie/lip tie treated in infancy. Now the child has allergies and grinds his teeth.

Hi doc! I used to have really nice and straight teeth but in my 30s, my bite suddenly went off. I can no longer bite something using my front teeth. Turns out I have an open bite due to overcrowding when all my wisdom teeth fully erupted. My lower teeth was no longer arched but kinda squared. My orthodontist immediately put me on braces (lower first followed by upper 2 mos after) but I think it only made my bite worse. 6th month now and she said I’ll be referred to a TMJ specialist bec I kept on pointing out my facial assymetry esp my lips and deviated jaw. I’m so lost now and I don’t want to be a hamster for experiment. 😭

Hello ma’am I am Educator and dealing with learning disability and other special needs. Now a days dealing with kids at early age having late talking and chewing and eating concerns. Kids are not talking at age of 5 too. I have observed they don’t open there mouth as needed, don’t use there tongue properly. Many such observations are seen. Being an educator any strategy to be followed or any exercise to be done ? They do consult other therapies and all I ask them to visit dentist too. If I can help them with something from my end will be helpful in there schools and learning.

I'd recommend speaking with a practitioner who provides Myofunctional Therapy.

I am 54 and I have a tongue tie. I have tried to get it released but without coverage its way too expensive. The dr I saw wanted $250 just to talk to me for 10 mins while at my dentist appointment for a cleaning. I refused to pay that!!! What else can I do??

Have you met with a myofunctional therapy provider?

Hi doctor. Quick question if you don't mind me asking. So i have a bilateral tmj subluxation + hypertranslation and I also have a vertical maxillary excess and was wondering if a steep/high mandibular plane angle could cause a TMJ disorder?

it certainly can!
