This video made me cry. I experienced every single thing you discussed except for the sleep apnea (as far as I know!). I always feel like I’m crazy or doing it to myself. You helped me understand that I didn’t bring this upon myself and it’s not my fault. Thank you so much for this information. Now I feel like there must be something I can do to at least work on the tongue posture. Is there anything that can be done about narrow palate on a full grown adult? TMJD caused me to have to give up singing, which was my life’s one true passion, and it causes me so much suffering both physical and psychological. Thank you for taking this condition seriously and with curiosity. I am so happy to have found your channel. Bless you I wish all the best in the world for you.

I now live in Costa Rica and have been struggling with trigeminal neuralgia for 3 years. Doctor art Parker used to be my dentist and his assistant used to do cranial work on me back in the nineties. If I come back to Oregon for some medical care on my trigeminal neuraljah how long would I need to be there to get the proper nightguard and some cranial Work?

I have a tongue tie and a deep bite. I went to the doctor due to pain a while ago and was told I have tmjd. I got sent to get an X-ray and it came back perfectly normal …. My jaw is not normal . Im going back to see the doctor soon. Im constantly stressed , I have neck pain, I get migraines, I have anxiety as well and clinche my teeth together so hard :/ Do you have any advice? awesome video thanks. Can you do a a video on open bite and treatment. have you ever heard of one developing in adulthood (mid 20s).
@theTMJdoc3 жыл бұрын
Open bites typically develop with tongue thrust OR due to joint deterioration.
@quancho34843 жыл бұрын
@@theTMJdoc do u think an airway issue could cause the tongue to position itself forward, creating the open bite. I have been trying to find out why i developed an open bite in adulthood but no one was able to say why (i had a "normal" bite before and was able to touch front teeth), ive met many dentist and orthodontist. They recommended jaw surgery to correct the open bite however i was hesitant due to no explanation on why it developed in the first place. i feel as if tongue thrust is not really as much an issue as resting tongue posture. my theory was airway related and that the tongue constantly rested forward. or its as u said, joint deterioration (which is what i'm scared about). i wanted to get imaging from an oral surgeon but its been difficult due to insurance issues.

👍🏼 What happens if you don't fix tongue tie?
@theTMJdoc4 жыл бұрын
A tongue tie could be restricting movement in your head, neck and farther down the postural chain without you even realizing it. Having said that, many people live their whole lives with an undiagnosed and untreated tongue tie and are fine.

@theTMJdoc4 жыл бұрын
Hi Akhil and thank you for your comment. It’s never too late! You can pursue treatment but it should be done in a specific order: 1. Establish good nasal breathing - see an ENT for this. It may require surgical correction. 2. Myofunctional therapy before tongue release 3. Tongue release 4. Myofunctional therapy after tongue release Hope this helps!

I literally have every issue you mentioned except jaw locked shut. Is there anything I can do to fix this withought surgery like some stretching or exercises or mowing or somthing along those lines?
@theTMJdoc3 жыл бұрын
I wish there was an easy way to fix this through stretches or Mewing. The way we treat TMJD is with orthotics, myofascial release, and osteopathic jaw manipulation & even then, it can take 4-6 months with weekly or bi-weekly appointments for symptoms to resolve.

Hi Dr Mistry, I have a slight tongue tie. I dont breath through my mouth, my tongue rests on my upper jaw. But my frenulumI is tight, and forward to the front end of my tounge. I did have braces and had to get two upper molers removed to bring my teeth back. I landed on your page because i was looking into tongue tie release reviews. I do snore, I have not gotten a sleep study. I also grind my teeth at night. But i am wondering if i would benefit from seeing a tmj doctor (I live in Canada, Ontario) or if i should get a tongue tie release procedure. I dont know which one would help my snoring. Please help!

@theTMJdoc4 жыл бұрын
Sorry you’re going through this! We would treat this by first treating and eliminating your pain with an orthotic. Once the pain is gone, we would recommend tongue tie release and sleep test to see if the orthotic is enough to get you adequate oxygen. If it’s not we would then make an appliance that treats the TMJD and the oxygen saturation. Where do you live? Where is your pain?
