I met Tony whilst on a weekend trip to Rotterdam about 15-20 years ago. I was just standing in the square with a couple of friends, deciding where we were going next, when I looked over and about 50 yards away saw him. I said to my mates, is that Tony Hadley over there? Them being 10 years younger than me had no idea who I was talking about. But anyway, Tony must've heard me, so he came wandering over to me and just started chatting away like we were long-time friends. I don't get star struck, I've met loadsa "stars" in my time, but I was a little bit gobsmacked, just cos he was so lovely and chatty, asking what we were doing, were we having a nice time, why he was there and was just doing a bit of shopping himself. I liked Spandau back in the 80's and some of their songs, but can't say I was ever a fan particularly, but I turned into a Tony fan that day. What an absolutely lovely guy. He had no need to come and chat, he could've just gone about his day, but he made a point of coming over. It made my weekend.

Except Tony Hadley, who, we were told, was back in the hotel, "taking care of his voice". So he ain't lying on that count. Must have took a lot of willpower that. He missed a great "stay behind". The manager of the club was on holiday and his assistant was, shall we say, a bit more lax about things.
