To further answer your question, the other games don't feature different board types, because essentially vert/street trick skating doesn't have any deck variety. you might see pool skaters use more old school decks with wider tails, or someone focused on crazy flips will get a narrower board, but for the most part, they completely standardized the symmetrical Popsicle shape with hard wheels. . Downhill/longboarding/cruiser boarding on the other hand has a TON of variety to the point every one is practically unique. Long boards, short boards, dancing boards, pintails, drop throughs, top mounts, traditional kingpin, reverse kingpin, double trucks, drop down top mounts, wedge tails, swallow tails, downhill wheels, freestyle wheels, there's a ridiculous amount of options.
@SquareEyedJak4 жыл бұрын
Street skating also doesn't work with hoverboards, big trike wheels or blades but if we got all that fun stuff, my point is that where were some fun longboards and such in the regular games.
@gamerguy4254 жыл бұрын
@@SquareEyedJak True. Though aside from THUG 2, it usually starts out more realistic and then the goofy unlockables with crazy boards come out at the end. If you could ride a 40" RKP pintail or downhill board in a game like THUG 1 or PG, that'd really kill the immersion IMO unless it was a post game bonus, it would be like having a harley davidson chopper available from the start in a fairly serious motocross game. . Having slight variations (like the aforementioned pool boards) and having bigger decks for more speed, but slower flips, or changing wheel sizes to affect speed/acceleration, THAT'D be pretty fucking rad and strike a good balance IMO.

IF you find out what happened with this game you would understand that it was rushed out for a deadline. The game was suppose to have a online mode, and this would have been the first wii game to have a online game mode, the online game mode was a pretty big investment in development, it was cut some time within a few months prior to release, and was hyped up prior to release but activiviosn kept trying to hype up the fans with its cut online game mode promissing it to the few people watching the game. There was cut levels as well, plenty of cut levels. I remember watching this game very closely and I seen some screenshots and leeked information internally, activision really rushed this title out and they didn't care what state it was in so long as it reached the deadline for the wii's release, which according to wikipedia released days before the wii did. Keep in mind I had to do the goal that most people did just to get this game, find out when gamestop got their shipments in, wait for them to unload the wii consoles onto the floor and exploit local laws of if its on the floor and has a price tag in a stole they must sell it. They kept lying to hold on to wiis and try to hide them for staff. I know because someone I knew worked for that exact gamestop at that exact time which is how I got all that information about what days they get shipments from nintendo, and the manager kept hawking wiis over priced on ebay.

Ah, that intro brings back some nostalgia. I said before I'm not a Tony Hawks fan, but I do remember playing a bit of Downhill Jam before, back in Christmas of 2006 (the same time frame I also got my Wii). And me being an inept 7 year old at the time, I could never really do well, always crashing into walls and doing poorly when it came to tricks, but even then I still had a good time. I should revisit it one day though, see if it's as good as I remember it. And with that, thanks for these 5 reviews, Jak. Like I said before, it was interesting to hear your opinions about the games even though I'm not a fan of these titles (it's also interesting to hear your thoughts on THUG2, a game I thought most people loved!). Here's to the last few months of 2017, and the future of 2018.

I was always on fence about getting into this series throughout the years growing up. But my only memory playing any of the titles was on the gameboy color. Yeah he's reviewing 5 more tony hawk games next year in October maybe. That's my prediction. It's great that Jak can make entertaining reviews of genres of games I don't care for that much. The WWE one was entertaining. I actually started seeing WWE videos on KZbin. I watched the Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant match (apparently that was the first time Andre ever lost a WWE match) and also a match with the Undertaker and his brother Kane. Those aren't the only ones, but they're notable.

A delayed Day 5! I actually agree with everything you said about this game, no discrepancy on the score really, except I did find it fun and a nice idea for a spinoff. Some of the 'break stuff' challenges had me slow down drastically and constantly use my skateboard Kung Fu moves more than actually going down the track at a comfortable speed to reach the challenge minimum. It took me out of the race mood and felt more like a halting grind to destroy every little thing in each corner of the track. I liked how I could make my custom character look like a gorilla's body. And it was sort of a watered down SSX on land now that you mention it. You couldn't have said it better, it's definitely a game you put down for 10 years to pick it up again for fun and realize how quickly it gets boring (I'm in that process now, don't think I've touched it since 2010 or 2011). I never really bothered beating it, not because I hated it, some of the challenges got a bit difficult and I lost interest in trying anymore. A game like this revamped with dynamic characters, more modes and a story would be really cool. But who knows if that will happen. So will there be a Hawktober 2018 where you cover Proving Ground, Ride, Shred and 5? I'm excited! Your fellow critic ~Anton

Good Review Jak, completely forgot about this entry in the franchise and I thought THPG would be next but luckily that wasn't the case, that game is very forgettable in my eyes; Lackluster Story Execution, Minimal Additions, A not very memorable ost, and sadly the Last Neversoft Game in the franchise having lost the realistic skating scene with Skate. Downhill Jam is alright, I didn't really mind the repetitive nature of the missions, I did however despise the gimmicky missions (The Floor is Lava Missions 🖕You) aside from that I had a fun week or two eventually 100%ing the PS2 Version but then again I haven't touched the game for several months since then ( your point at the end is truly accurate) but hey it was entertaining so that matters. Anyways Jak I've got to say The 1st Annual Tony Hawktober was quite good, we explored the rise and eventual crash of a once great franchise ( I honestly only care for the neversoft games and Downhill Jam, As Far as I'm concerned Proving Ground was the last entry as sad as that sounds even though At Times THPSHD was somewhat okay at times but even that got old even If finding glitches was great. Speaking of That Going Out Of Bounds in the Tony Hawk Games was very fascinating to me as it allowed me to take a peak in the development of the game at the errors they didn't intend people to see. While the journey may be over I along with everyone here will be here patiently waiting next year for The 2nd Annual Tony Hawktober where you discuss the franchises many attempts to reclaim its original glory ultimately failing and brutally murdering its chances at a new game ever coming out, with a broken, glitchy, horribly programmed, rushed piece of Hot Trash that only served as the final nail in this franchises coffin burying itself never seeing the light ever again. But hey Jak We'll always have the good old memories of the past entries that fueled our nostalgia and warmed our hearts. Anyways Jak Have A Great Fucking Day!!! And Congratulations On Another Excitingly Well Produced Review Series, I see you next time Cheers. 🥇🏆
