@@bug-kong N3ds is more portable imo. little bigger, still easily pocket-sized, but much better battery & backlight (extremely important for portable gaming, honestly), super easy to install cfw, capability of emulating Ps1+everything older, as well as having built-in VC emulation for nes, snes, gb, gbc, gba, etc. natively which usually surpasses third-party emulation in accuracy, ends up making it a much better device for portable gaming imo. nothing really beats a hacked vita, though

Correction god Speedy had this to say about the MIDI soundtracks: "The sound engine might use MIDI, but it's likely it's some sort of tracker format since it uses the GAX Sound Engine and was composed by Manfred Linzner who has a history of making Amiga music." :) any excuse to plug Speedy's channel: kzbin.info/door/ee6OxuVy7crcYavcA2ibAw also lmao check this out kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaWolqJoh7uChbc for the full UNCUT xindictive rant also an amazing thumbnail and gif of me at the end ty ❤

It's hard to overstate how remarkable the GBA version of THPS2 was at the time. There's three times in my life that I have been blown away by a game in the sense that playing it for the first time really felt like we had entered a brand new era in gaming from a technological standpoint. THPS2 for the GBA, THUG2 Remix for the PSP (it was basically a portable PS2 game and I was in awe of that fact), and GTA3.

Played the holy hell out of 2 3 and 4 on the GBA. I really liked how the foreground would go slightly transparent when you were below the edge of bowls and quarter pipes, that was really helpful. Also the way you "snapped" to stuff when pressing the grind button helped out a lot with the isometric perspective wonkyness. Some of the points requirements in career were pretty damn unforgiving though.

Those were some really playable games for the time, I remember everyone going nuts over them. The low res models are goofy but probably also allowed much more frames of animation over full sprites

I always thought the player character in all these games were just a sprite that was drawn for all the possible angles you could be facing like Sonic 3D. Learning that they were actual 3D models after all this time is like a revelation, and going back to it now it's extremely obvious to me that they're models. It's just like woah man.

This was a great video and I love to see these games get some attention. When I was growing up I played the crap out of THPS4 and THUG1 on my GBA. Later on I played them on PC and consoles, and they were good, but these versions never appealed to me as much as the isometric GBA games. I genuinely think THPS4 and especially THUG1 are among the best games on the GBA and the very best of the Tony Hawk games on any console. I've never felt a desire to revisit the 3D PC and console games, and yet I still go back and replay the GBA games sometimes, and it's always delightful for me. They have such a unique kind of charm that no other games I know of have replicated.

this might sound completely nuts but i've been consistently been playing thps2 since i got it. it's by far my favourite, not only because the environment appears to be constructed with polygons instead of the prerendered ugliness of the ones after, but the level design is way stronger for allowing more "realistic" lines that make sense to me as a real-life skateboarder. i've put hundreds of hours in free skate mode, it's the best way for me to destress, zone out, take a break, etc. ...

I had THUG2 on GBA as a kid and played the shit outta it. When you're doing DS, I have a feeling you're gonna love Sk8Land. Wasteland was fantastic on PS2 and there was no way they were gonna do it justice on the handheld so making a parallel universe spinoff was a solid idea. I recently played it again (was the first DS game I purchased) and it still remains a kickass game. You can even record your own voice for when you do an awesome combo and another sample for when you bail.
