The ending of the Sopranos has really grown on me. They left Tony to where it truly didn't matter if he was dead or not... he was finished. His little empire was decimated, his crew in shambles, and he had a prosecution (with Carlo as a witness) hanging over him. It was over.

This scene is great...it really captures the loneliness of it all, a house full of guys and it seems like the loneliest place in the world, none of these guy's trust each other, some even hate each other, they all must be riddled with paranoia knowing that at any time one could turn informant or sell the other out, at this stage there was no loyalty left and Tony knew it. All alone in his room, cradling his rifle thinking of death.

The end of this scene is so brutally honest. I think the only thing fun about being at the top is the ascension to it. Once you get there, it’s just stress and worry. Reminds me of Pablo Escobar or El Mencho or El Chapo. You’re just constantly being over alert, running, having to be a ghost. As time passes, only thing you have is memories of those closest to you and then it’s all over. Like how the director uses dark lighting this season too. Really paints the mood.

I notice that too. The earlier seasons, especially the first, were all so vibrant and bright. The last two seasons, especially the second part of season 6, were all so dark and dreary. The dullness really showed his world falling apart as it almost always does for people who live this life. And that’s why I think the ending is so great.

There's one main reason why I don't think Bobby's quote necessarily foreshadows Tony's death...Bobby DOES hear it when it happens to him. His line about not hearing it is probably true for some, but not necessarily for everybody. Bobby's just guessing - he doesn't actually know. So it doesn't have to indicate that Tony absolutely dies at the end.
