He was saying if you can't make a few bob, you might as well enjoy yourself. Satriale's doubled as a café where you could sit out in the sun, watch some skirt, have a few espressos. That many guys in one tight place, taking turns sleeping, waiting 17 hours a day for several days for gunmen to burst through the back door isn't healthy. Much in keeping with their general occupation.

@@doublem1975x it was a LONG time coming for that. The show was building up to a mutany. Eventually those who once trusted and admired Tony wanted to kill him. There would've been no one alive who would've said no to taking him out. Patsy , Carlo and Paulie most likely wanted to kill Tony for how they were treated in the end.
@raymondkidwell71352 жыл бұрын
Unrealistic drama they have to put into every section of the show. Like when Tony got shot by his uncle. The entire last season, even starting at the second to last really didn't fit the rest of the show. There's no way to end it where it pleases everybody though. No matter what was done there would be a percentage of people unhappy with such an ending. But Tony's character is inconsistent between the last season and the rest of the show. The Tony we all knew and love was a sociopath, but he was reasonable, he loved his family (and animals). The last season he just kills his nephew for no reason, screws over his crew for the heck of it, I mean none of it makes sense. The writer David Chase whatever his name is said everybody liked Tony Soprano and he didn't want them to like Tony so he had to write in all this nonsense. In reality, if you followed the show at this point in Tony's life he should have been making enough money from legitimiate business ventures that the mafia aspect was only secondary. They were making decent bank on their waste management business and had enough money piled up to retire on. Back when his wife was thinking of leaving him she went out back and opened up stashes full of cash and started putting them in investments- which that alone was like a hundred grand in legit money. This would also be more in line with what the real mafia does. They go and buy a casino in vegas or something and mainly run legit business. It just doesn't make for enough drama in the show, but in this case they also needed to destroy the legend of Tony Soprano as much as possible in the last season.

All the guys in the safe house with Tony are either unseen members of the organization or people that Tony was never very close to, but now they're the best he's got. Watching these scenes again and seeing the comments only made me recently realize that this was also emphasizing the end of Tony as a boss as well. Even if he didn’t die, his grip and leadership of the family was crumbling. He almost had no one left who was truly loyal to him. He was facing a likely conviction. Even though he won the war by negotiating peace with Butchie and Albie and killing Phil, he wouldn’t have remained boss for that much longer. They didn’t really respect him anymore. New York truly decapitated and crippled the family. Even if Tony didn’t die in that diner, he was facing prison for life, and has to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder and watching who enters every diner he’ll ever be in again because he killed a boss. If not murdered by one of his own men. This show really shows us how miserable and lonely it is to devote your life to crime.

I wanted just one more episode before the finale of Tony and his decimated crew holed up at the safe house, cut off from the outside world, waiting in fear for the hammer to fall from New York. I liked the concept. Have him interact more with the background, unimportant characters for a change, get to know them a bit better, more of the cat, and combine that with a final dream/nightmare episode of the hell awaiting Tony at that creepy house, with the demonic shadow Livia from his dreams, drawing closer to the end. A more supernatural and horror seeming episode for the final season, eerie and paranoia growing, when he's awake and asleep alike.

@thelaw62672 жыл бұрын
@@turdeyeblind Much appreciated. Part of it is I think Walden, Dante Greco and others deserved a bit more screen time and fleshing out, the 'redshirts' of the cast, the only ones Tony has left, and it would have really driven the nail in the coffin for Tony thematically and story wise, come the ending, his glimpse of what is waiting for him on the other side, knowing his hell is drawing closer. Would have been great to have the nightmare image of Tony standing at the bottom of the staircase, and Demonic Shadow Livia standing up at the top waiting for him, or her creeping into his room or pursuing him about the house he can't escape from. Plenty they could have done creatively with an eerie, isolated episode like that before the finale, I think.

Going to the mattresses... It's not hanging out at the pork store, visiting someone in the hospital where you're also vulnerable, or even picking up envelopes alone. That's how the entire crew would get picked off or followed back to the safehouse. I watched an interview from Sammy Gravano explaining when he went to the mattresses during the Columbo war. They weren't out collecting money, it was too risky. But with that aside, I really like this scene.

Listen to what they say. "Who's he belong to?" "He just showed up during the big storm," and "I heard he caught a mouse down the cellar." This scene, and that little bit of dialogue in particular, are clues as to who in the Family betrayed Tony. The easiest theory is that Carlo was informing for the FBI, after he decides to testify, Tony gets whacked by New York, Paulie, who runs the majority of the family at that time, faces the brunt of Carlo's collusion with the FBI, and he gets sent back to prison. Or Patsy had something to do with Tony getting whacked. Or Paulie. Or the Carlo story of him testifying was a lie and he had something to do with it. It gets more complicated after that.
