Hi Gareth, I'm going to try these. I was looking at them and the battered hamburgers the other day. When I was in my late teens, way back in the late 80's, everybody used to go to a Renfrew chip-shop that sold a couple of battered sausage or battered hamburger, in a buttered roll with a massive scoop of chips on top. They sold these for £1 or £1.50. It was the late night munchy of many people who had been smoking a certain substance. It was the best. Lovely. Cheers.
@BaldFoodieGuy Жыл бұрын
Cheers Ian, do them in the oven as the air fryer dried it out abit. 😋😋👍

Happy memories. 😀 Sadly, late night chippies seem to be a thing of the past. These days, at chucking-out time, only pizza & kebab shops seem to be open. You can get "chips" (I use the term in its loosest sense! 😱) at these places, but not chippy stuff like fish, pies or sausages.

Chip-shop style and taste is very difficult to mimic. A hell of a lot of the character apparently comes from the oil. Sure you can make batter yourself and deep fry at home but it's never quite the same. The fella at the local chippy is a chatty chap and he once told me that because they use so much oil in those big fryers they have, when you put food in it doesn't lower the temperature of the oil too much. At home you're using far less oil so when you put your stuff in you cause the oil to cool down significantly which makes it taste different. Dunno how much truth there is to that but it sounds reasonable.
