The former Olympic figure skater told ABC News she was scared for her own safety after the infamous 1994 baton attack on fellow Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.

It seems like two careers were ruined by one stupid abusive man. All of the blame was with him. He should have gone to prison to rot. Tonya's life was Runined. Nancy healed and went on to skate again and again. Tonya fought so hard against the shittt people in her life and they still dragged her down. It's just heartbreaking.

Nancy Kerrigan didn't have a perfect life either. Her Dad worked three Jobs to pay for her skating. Her family was not wealthy and some years after the Olympics her brother murdered her Dad. She knew about the attack but she made a mistake like we all do. God gives us grace so we must give grace to others including those who attacked Nancy. Tonya had no confidence. Was always put down by those around her except her long time coach. She had no support at home. I know what that feels like. My sister and I skated for years. She had the wrong kind of support. She landed very few triple axels in competition, because she quit training after she landed the first one. She never did more than one in a competition and was going against Midori Ito of Japan that did 4 or 5 in a competition. Even if she landed the one at the Olympics she wouldn't have beaten Kristi or Midori. Be at least honest about the competition, and Oxana had a totally different type of choreography than America in general was ready for at the time. Do your research... watch the competitions. Tonya had a moment where she could have risen and beaten Nancy, but she really didn't know how to convert that moment into motivation for her. Personally, I think she scared herself... more than she realizes yet.
@baritonebynight6 жыл бұрын
Sandra She landed them very well in 1991...that was her year. Ito's were more consistent, Harding's far more exciting to watch. Ito faltered on many of her's too, but Ito wasn't in an abusive relationship either. Home life certainly takes a toll. Harding pushed the sport forward for women. Kerrigan just had nice dresses.

Based on Tonya's interviews (and the others), I do think that she knew everything. I don't think she planned it. I think it was Jeff's idea and she went along with it. He probably convinced her to do it, or maybe she didn't need convincing. However, she was young and dumb, and like all of us, when we are young we do some really dumb things. Add the young and dumb factor to someone who was abused all her life and viewed skating as the only good thing she could do, she was desperate at that point and didn't stop the plan because she maybe thought it was a good plan. I think she really needs to come clean and apologize for it. But I think it would be very hard for her, for anyone to do that, at this point in time after denying it all this time. She should not have been banned from skating for her whole life. That was ridiculous. Although Nancy was the victim, she didn't seem like a very nice person at the time, and she seemed like a spoiled brat. Like Tonya, she may be different now. Maybe she's a nicer person. Another thing is, if the Tonya/Nancy thing didn't happen, there's no way that Nancy would have made the millions of dollars she did. If she won Gold, maybe she would have had some good offers, but she got Silver and she got so many endorsements. She wasn't even grateful (just watch the Disney Parade video). I tend to like Tonya more than Nancy but I do not condone what Tonya did, it's just that, she did get punished and it was a very very very long time ago. She has not committed any more crimes. She should not still be banned from figure skating.

She was abused by her ex-husband, who did this independently of her. Whether she had an inkling of it or not, she had every reason to believe he might hurt or kill her if she said anything. Abusive men have done far crazier things to women they “love” and “need”. Ideally she would have said something, but when you are afraid of someone that has hurt and abused you so intimately, you can’t always see things clearly- that person controls your whole world.

Tonya knew enough to go to the authorities and ultimately it would have salvaged her career! She kept quiet so therefore I have no sympathy for her loss. At the end of the day she was more willing to side with criminals than to go to the authorities and trust them to protect her. I even heard years ago that she was at her fathers house and her ex-husband came to the house and beat her up in front of an FBI agent! This woman has told so many lies you could write a book detailing all the twisting angles and lies she has told in an attempt to make herself look good and look like the martyr! I think its pathetic that a movie was made about this trash of a story but then on the other hand you've got that ugly beast in Hollywood that will do anything to make a buck off of the downfall and sensationalism of another persons life! How about they make a movie about all the ways Tonya has tried to make a buck since the attack!

Eventually all the confusion will be evaporated away, Tanya is a woman that made big mistakes in deciding who to marry and who to trust when she went off to compete, and thats the only real crime she committed. For the IOC to damage her the way they did and strip her of her titles and fine her the way they did only makes sense if you can prove Tanya KNEW about what they were planning to do to Kerrigan. She suspected it and should have gone to the authorities but can you really attack people you think have your back when you are in the middle of the biggest competition of your life? Yes, she only suspected them of foul play when she overheard them, but that was the full extent of it, she never planned anything like this , she didnt need to, she was just as good as anyone else that day. Eventually she will be completely exonerated of all wrong doing, and the IOC can go to hell. They ruined her economically but she survived and perhaps one day that IOC will refund the $100,000 and restore her name. She never did anything wrong except marry that fucking punk and allow his idiot buddies to accompany her, that was her true crime, but only against herself.

Hopefully things will turn out better for her.

she was a victim of narcissistic and emotional abuse - for a person as tough as her, that type of abuse can cause severe trauma and not to mention brain fog - "fear, obligation, and guilt". It makes complete sense why she would have rather not have gotten deeper involved with her ex husband and kept a low profile.

Tonya Harding was INNOCENT in wrongdoing, you all know her husband (first husband), also did things to extort from Tonya, so the truth is the truth , when Tonya speaks , her husband and the other accomplices caused this nightmare against the innocent Tonya. I am sorry you were treated so harshly in court, I believe the man who struck Tonya and the X husband and accomplices should have had the fines, the ice skating association , also , in turn, extorted from Tonya, stole her money, her time, and basically , cruelly and inhumanely, stole her freedom to skate . I have watched other skaters but Tonya is the BEST, she shall always be the best, her years of practice and dedication, and her natural athletic ability , made her a champion of champions. You can relax now Tonya, you did excellent in your competitions, videos prove this, you were and are untouchable, Ms. Triple Axle , skater extraordinaire! If I (or say, one of my children) by accident or intention hit someone in a way that effected their personal talent, I'd be apologizing for the rest of my life. I would do everything in my power to heal that situation. I'd do my best to make a relationship with that person so, if nothing else, something good could come out of a bad situation. I would not say on national television, "No more apologizing..." Seriously??? That's not how you treat others.

I read her eyes body language and she was telling the truth; when your blink your eyes a lot thats a sign of lying and she dident blink when answering that question and when she described hearing her ex-boyfriend talking about hitting her knew she moved her arms around like she was telling the story with her hands so that is a sign she is telling the truth she probably thought that maybe he was just desperate and just considering it an idea but should probably think you would actually go through with it especially after she told him it's crazy to do that we are her body language was telling the truth her body was closed off her legs and arms are crossed most of the time it means she doesn't really want to talk about it but that doesn't mean she's not telling her that she is I mean it's a hard subject to talk about so I can understand why she doesn't want to talk about it but it is necessary to talk about it so she did cuz they just did a movie I Tonya so she can show her side of the story and give a different picture to people what happened and that she was abused I mean yes technically she should have broken up with him but I grew up with domestic violence and it's hard to break off from having Stockholm syndrome being brainwashed and self-esteem at the time cuz of the way her mom treated her so I can understand why it was hard for her to break it off with him and it took her a long time it took me a long time to break up with most of my exes and then I just decided to be single and embark on my PTSD and reverse the brainwashing my family did on me that abused me and heal my aura that has trauma embedded in it that attracts toxic people in my life before I even start dating again and she looks happy and I feel really bad for Nancy she didn't deserve that trauma in your aura and until you learn about it and learn how to reverse it if you read Inside the Minds of angry men why does he do that by Lundy Grand Croft and has a list of red flag signs different type of abusers how the honeymoon cycle of Stockholm syndrome happens and being confused and manipulated and brainwashed how it works on the brain and I learned about not seeking toxic validation cuz that attracts toxic people when you do that and just think separated from the abusive person and working on your confidence and believing that you deserve better and I do chakra healing as well Progressive guided hypnotism to reverse the brainwashing and and there's also Progressive guided hypnotism that builds up your confidence and they have a verbal and Visual and it's free on KZbin

Kristel Kleer Exactly - they didn't look smart enough to pull off something like that, and obviously they weren't
@nickgreatpwrful57546 жыл бұрын
Kristel Kleer I know what you're talking about; she said she overheard them saying they would take "someone" out, not Kerrigan in particular. She apparently told them - I can skate. I think it is possible she didn't connect the dots immediately, in her biopic there's a scene where she receives a death threat and can't skate. I think it's possible she just thought this was another crazy thing that someone was doing to try and sabatoge the team. I don't think Tonya was 100% innocent, but I don't think she was 100% guilty, either. People are struggling to walk the middle path when it comes to this case. Almost all of the blame should lie with her stupid ass ex husband and that crappy "bodyguard". She's definitely paid her dues. I personally think her being banned for life is way too harsh, I think she should at least be allowed to coach. On top of that, she had to pay that $160,000 fine, and she actually has apologized relentlessy - and according to her, she has directly apologized to Nancy - but according to Nancy, she hasn't. I don't think anyone will ever know the 100% full story. Tonya and Nancy are both big personalities and who knows, honestly.

When somebody is intensely training like that.. I don't think they have as much capacity to use their brains on much else. Could she have known.. and asked galooly more about what eckhardt was up to? Did she? No. I think the movie is accurate. Almost all eckhardt.
