I really struggle with this pronunciation of this word, Podria. I was told by native Spanish speakers that it sounds like I'm saying Po'gria. Can you recommend a way that I can break this word down so that I am clearly understood. I hope this question make sense.

Hi Steve, sure ... it's /po.drí.a/ 'po' and 'a' shouldn't be hard ... the trickiest part will be getting the 'd' and the 'r' right in the middle syllable. So ... you want to be able to say 'DRI'. That's how you can isolate it. If you can day 'DRI' then you'll be able to say 'podría'. D is going to sound like d as in dog, and the R is going to involve you tapping your tongue on the roof of you mouth just behind the teeth. Isolate the R sound ... say 'cara' which means face ... and in order to say the R correctly, pretend it is a D and you're going to to say "CADA" (pronounce the d like dog). You know that mobster movie phrase, 'bada bing bada boom'? Say, BADA BING, BADA BOOM. Say, BADA BADA BADA. CADA CADA CARA. That's how you say 'cara' in Spanish. Notice where your tongue goes when you say BADA BADA BADA, CARA CARA CARA. It's the same. Tongue taps the roof of the mouth behind your teeth. Now come back to the 'podría'. PO is easy, D is like 'dog', RÍ is the same R sound you made in 'cara', then ÍA. See if that works.
