I have posted an earlier performance of this song on KZbin that I performed for my creative writing class in 2007. I have video of an even earlier performance that I gave for a "Student and Teacher Talent Show" at El Rancho High School in the early 90s. I might share that one as well sometime. However, this recording is from a much later performance at a concert held at a Student Art Exhibit in Pico Rivera. My Video Production students had two TVs sharing the student films that they had made along with many pieces from a number of other art classes. The organizers asked a couple of us to perform, and this was the opening number of three of my original songs. This was from April 2011, and as I noted during the performance, it was only a couple of months before my retirement in June 2011 after 40+ years of teaching.
Too Cool For School Blues
Woke up this mornin;
Heard the school bell ring;
Stuck my head under the covers
Pretended I didn’t hear a thing.
I’m too cool for school...
I’m too cool for school...
Me and all my friends
We break every rule
’Cause we’re too cool for school
They say one and one is two,
And two and one is three;
You can talk about higher mathematics,
But that’s good enough for me
I’m too cool for school...
I’m too cool for school...
Me and all my rowdy friends
We break every rule
’Cause we’re too cool for school
Why should we learn to write?
Why should we learn to read?
We got radio, cd’s, tv’s,
(and DVD’s, mp3’s, DVR’s,
iPhones, Droids, and iPads)
And that’s all we’ll ever need
We’re too cool for school...
Too cool for school...
Me and all my friends?
We break every single rule
’Cause we’re too cool for school
Woke up this mornin;
Heard the school bell ring;
Stuck my head under the covers
Pretended I didn’t hear a thing.
I’m too cool for school...
I’m too cool for school...
Me and all my friends
Well, we break every rule
’Cause we’re too cool for school
