I'm 74 now, went vegan 2 years ago & couldn't be more pleased with the results.....no loss of energy or muscle mass. Still take Rx for high cholesterol but all other numbers well within the normal range.

At 73, I have been progressing towards vegan as the Doc has suggested without any issues. Have more energy, not less.

I wish I had a doctor like Dr. Klaper!

I think it was in a study done in Australia (but don't quote me on that one) where older people need a slightly higher quantity of proteins. It might be that some doctors fear an older person, who tends to eat less, will not reach an adequate level of protein? I think Brenda David talked about this point in one of her videos.

I am 60 and suffer from Gout. Been WFPB (95% of the time. Occasionally when out and can't get I eat 'vegan burgers'). Having trouble with beans in diet without firing gout flare. Any advice? I wouldlike to get more protein in my diet(and some dif textures).
@gigipizzuto40684 жыл бұрын
Have you tried having the beans sprouted? You might have to soak them a bit longer than usual. If beans are a no I would say no to tofu or tempeh. Anyway whole grains are rich in proteins in full spectrum. Something higher in protein is vital gluten flour, which is less processed than tvp. But I'm not sure what spectrum of protein it contains.

@@kentmanning Yes runs in the family(together with Fibro myalgia, lupus, and many other things). That 5% is comprised of things like vegan sausages, burgers etc when we go out to eat (wife not Vegan) . I love chilli and spicy food. I am disabled with a severely damaged nervous system and damaged endocrine system. So I cannot put hand on heart and say since going WFPB two years ago I have been 100% but for example I have had one meat meal in that time and didn't enjoy it at all(chicken sweet and sour). Porridge for breakfast (and a bowl of celery. Love the taste and crunch), salad sometimes with balsamic on with potatoes with a topping of pico de garo. Rice/spuds with steamed grean veg, dry fried mushrooms/peppers/onions etc for tea.

@@gigipizzuto4068 Very good advice ! Like Seitan occasionally or even vegan protein powder ( not made with soy isolate) . Vegan burgers are ok occasionally but they are high in sodium ( processed seitan like the Gusta one as well) .
@martinnichols454 жыл бұрын
@@kentmanning For vegan burgers , not more than 1 / week , it's too high in sodium . You could put 1 scoop of vegan protein powder in your porridge in the morning .

Have you tried lentils. Technically they are legumes. They are much easier to cook and digest compared to other legumes.

What is best diet for osteoarthritis? Thanks
@carolynbrown33794 жыл бұрын
Oka Widharta At age fifty four I found a Natural Practitioner who put me on a WFPB diet emphasizing NOTHING PROCESSED! No sugar, salt, flour, dairy etc. with at least six stalks ( I could even juice it) of celery a day. People have said that would just be too hard to do but living w my crippling osteoarthritis was a real motivator. In three months time I regained the use of my right arm which I had been unable to get my hand as high as my waist with. Made a true believer and follower out of me! I am now seventy eight, arthritis free and no longer suffer w the miserable allergies I was "born with". While there are many voices calling I stick w Doctors Klaper, John McDougall, Neal Barnard, Michael Greger, Dean Ornish, T. Colin Campbell and Brenda Davis. I have also found a WFPB support group that had a pot luck once a month prior to Covid. I forgot that in the beginning I was not to eat any Citrus as well but can now. Hopefully this will help you in some way. Don't give up. Peace.💚

@@carolynbrown3379 I’m going from a bit of a junk vegan to wfpb to clear my eczema 🙏Trying to cut out all processed food and oils too😀

April Taf The same practitioner taught that eczema indicates an under active colon and skin. The toxins that should be leaving through the colon will find a weaker channel to exit by and if the skin is weak the person will have acne/ eczema etc. if the respiratory is weak they will be asthmatic or prone to bronchial infections.he advised those people to skin brush with a natural bristled brush, avoiding any break out areas, prior to bathing, not to wear clothing or use bedding made from man made fiber as they don't allow the skin to breath. Exercising up to a sweat and saunas help and as for diet he told them 2Tbs of ground flaxseed a day stirred into oatmeal after cooking or added to a green smoothie drink would lubricate the bowel enabling a more efficient evacuation w/o cramping or diarrhea. Also placing the feet on a small stool so that the knees are higher than the hips whiling eliminating would expedite the process and protect against developing hemorrhoids. He taught that eating a few soaked prunes, figs, apricots or even eating an apple in the evening would be helpful as the colon is most active in the early a.m. and the constituents in these items would assist in that natural process. Okra was another good food but not breaded and fried. He also advised these people to be sure to drink water.

Oka Widharta Yes, he had me drink an herbal tea made from shave grass also known as horsetail, oat straw and a bit of comfrey. It was a high calcium/silica combination. I drank a pint a day. I finally just sneaked the herbs into my green smoothie drink and still do occasionally.
