Tools not pretentious. Pretentious is when you think your better than every One else.....Tool is actually just better than every One else.

Justin is a class act. But it seems they keep asking Justin more questions about Maynard and Adam than about him

TOOL seem to be very popular in Australia, if only they were interviewed,or played for that matter, on the radio here in Ireland!

i find life scary sometimes. i think fear is certainly a concept of much of their music.

What Justin said is Obv true, but I've heard Maynard say in interviews that its easier for him to be back there isolated and able to recreate the emotions for himself that manifest the sound in his voice. Being back in the dark, is easier for him and helps his performance. He's to a point now tho where his voice can't hold out and he uses pedals for his vocals on certain songs. Rosetta Stoned being one. But yea its a crazy set up to witness as I've seen both Tool and APC numerous times.

Actually it's a regional dialect thing, it changes depending where you live and your take on the English language. I'd say Tool did that just to add a bit more mystery to it, but then again I might be wrong.

"Scary"??? WTF? Does anyone else here find Tool scary? LOOOL
@wendijackson88444 жыл бұрын
The only times I found Tool's music scary was when my son was listening to it non-stop while deeply depressed. He didn't even seem to enjoy it, per se. Just kind of dissolved himself. Years later, I realized it was helping him release his anger and sorrow. We're all big Tool/Puscifer/Perfect Circle fans here. Can't wait for this CV crap to be over so I can see one of my favorite bassists live.

These guys think odd time signatures are impossible to play or something? lol
@cursedswordsman10 жыл бұрын
It's a non-musician thing lol. Copying an odd time signature in a recording is easy as piss. Listen to it a couple times and play.

No doubt... I could see them calling Meshuggah scary. As for the "cause it's different" comment, Tool isn't different, they are simply better than everyone else. Also, I just don't see how Floyd was scary and have never heard anyone call them scary or even creepy. Sabbath was scary, but that was a sound and lyric reason.
@ifancyurmom4 жыл бұрын
I’d say Tool is scary to the average government/organized religion conformists just because their music antagonizes normal beliefs and their thought provoking lyrics and musical compositions

Same reason people found Pink Floyd scary, it's cause it's different you gotta think a little harder and people don't understand that.

I think Justin Chancellor is Cockney, which pretty much explains why he sounds kind of Aussie-like, considering he's from London. I always thought Cockney accents sounded sort of like a more British version of Aussie accents, because of the slight similarity in tone. Also, which pretty much why any (if not all) non-Cockney person who tries to sound Cockney tends to come off sounding more Australian at times, like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Also, another reason why some people mistake Cockney accents for Aussie ones. Sure, not all people in Australia sound similar in any way or form, but someone like Steve Irwin would have sounded like a Cockney dude if he was from England. Another thing, when I went to my nearest Subway one Thursday, the guy serving me thought I was English, even though I was just speaking in my normal voice (I'm from Australia, BTW) and not even attempting any accent at all. Pretty weird, there.

yeah.... way to have right in front of you, one of the best living bassists in the world, and you are ask about maynard james keenan. He's cool too, but, DJ's, you seriously fucked up this interview. Did you spend even five minutes beforehand thinking on interesting questions to ask?
@johndickos690110 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid he's good, but surely not one of the best in the world.
@lordmasterdebator33639 жыл бұрын
ashley dickos jc is one of the best. His playing is very complex and he can probably out play many other bass players.

I've read in a few places that Justin has synesthesia. Can anyone confirm this with a legitimate source? Synesthesia a pretty interesting thing to have. I wonder if it's influenced his bass playing.
+hommy tilfiger - Scary to people that fear what they do not understand.

I remember the undertow vids being pretty intense when I was a kid. I mean compared to all the other dribble that gets on the radio Tool is scary. They are real. Being real is terrifying for anyone trying to sell something.

Umm, yeah except your statement is flawed, since all those bands you mentioned were directly influenced by American blues artists. It's a cyclical process. Good musicians aren't bred by region.
@TheVENLAFAX11 жыл бұрын
the best musicians come from Ireland and Britain, the rest just try and imitate. for eg. Metallica wouldn't even exist were it not for British bands. Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, U2, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Motorhead. do i need to say anymore?

Tool? Scary? Ha, not at all!
@redpillrevolution60665 жыл бұрын
Haha....Tool is probably the only band that truly is annoyed by their fan base. But, it's just because they are only about the music. These dudes only tour because it makes them tons of money to pursue what they want. They'd prefer selling their music and letting people take their own exploration, than getting up in front of a bunch of "dumbfounded dipshits" performing. Truth is, and most fans don't get it, is that Tool could care less about what we think of THEM...they want the attention on the MUSIC...

+matthew ellis - It's all for what it is. He's a guitarist playing bass, n he goes for lots of attack, so it makes sense for him. Fingers sound best for guitar, too - but I ain't gonna smack talk on guys using picks in some kind of logic-less status quo argument.

He doesn't even always pick his bass though; a large part of Wings pt 2 is played all fingerstyle. He just does what is best for the song, which makes him a better artist than someone who confines themselves into a box because it's 'not the thing to do.'
