Does it bother anyone else how under appreciated Tool is, specifically by critics? I know pleasing critics isn't part of their identity in any way as a band, but it's difficult for me when I look at lists like the "500 Greatest Albums Ever" and not one Tool album is included. I know I'm a bit biased but how can you, as a critic, listen to an album like Aenima or Lateralus and not say that those are some of the most well-crafted, produced, performed, and written rock albums ever? Just strange to me. I guess some people just don't understand...shame.

+EccentricSage The Lady Gaga thing you mentioned made me depressed lol. But it does make me glad to know that other people also think that the bullshit big media tries to feed us is just that. Bullshit. This Tool music video, though, is art. It made me cry the first time I saw it, to be completely honest. And that's what art is suppose to do. Make you feel. Make you think.

+Ian 123 I don't get it. Tool have garnered plenty of critical acclaim. The band, their albums and the members of the band get highlighted in top 50/100 lists all the time. Just a quick google search for top albums of the 90's will bring up Loudwire's top 90 hard rock/metal albums of the 90s. Undertow is 37 and Aenima is 6. Revolver magazine has made a couple special edition issues that were solely about Tool.

+Derangedxzombie I think those songs - and even Vicarious - are great/awesome; it's what surrounds them that is questionable. Having said that, "Viginti Tres" is the only track I don't have on my music player, and even if I don't actively listen to "Intension" and "Wings Part1/2", the album is still very strong. I think it just feels like it lacks a bit of unity and flow, but individually the songs are some of their best.
@Egoblivion7 жыл бұрын
+EccentricSage I agree with 99% of what you said. However, something might be lost in Maynard being present to write the words _as_ the songs are being composed. Whatever might be lost in that, they probably know precisely what would be lacking and know precisely how to "make up" for it, lol. Also, they're probably so "psychically linked" that they don't have to be in each other's presence to write parts that the others will like and add to. I do feel however, that usually (not in Tool's case) bands' first releases are their best simply because they were hungrier; they're music has to be what will carry them through to their next phase. As they age, the emphasis on their music drops as other things in their life gain importance. With Tool, this dropping of emphasis would have translated into less qualitative releases had they just went ahead and released whatever they had...but Tool took has definitely taken their sweet time to ensure quality control, lol.

Honestly the last "triad" of songs on the album (disposition, reflection, triad) is one of the greatest things i've heard. I Hope they release a 20th anniversary edition of Lateralus or at least a live blu ray from that era some time soon because that tour was amazing.

Is there an interview with Tool (or Pantera for that matter) where these comment sections don't automatically rip the interviewer to shreds? Yeah, granted they've been asked some dumb shit by some dumb people on camera, but people are so preconditioned to see journalists as just unworthy by default to breathe the same air as Tool. This guy did fine, better than the other MTV2 yank who just went on about some Guns N Roses album with Adam and Maynard.
