Exactly. Deep down inside there is an inferiority complex from the pop/commercial garbage out there, they are intimidated by the talent and hate the fact that there are huge fanbases for bands that don't fit the mainstream. Tool isn't mainstream... So I'm very surprised they are receiving this, and while I'm thrilled for them, their music... more like melodic orgasms they have produced over the decades, is way beyond any idol or trophy they could ever put their hands on. Certainly, my favorite artists of all time. Period. And to this day, I stand by these words, that as a group, they have only gotten better with each album. I have practically grown up to them. I was 3 when Tool graced my senses, on MTV and am now, almost 33. If anyone has deserved such an award, it's these fine spirits; legends to the music world!! Congratulations!!!

This Land is a good song, but it likely won mostly because of the political/social message behind it. Tool and Gary Clark Jr. put on some of the best live performances around, I'm happy for both.

I met Danny in the parking lot beside a venue in Memphis, TN when they were on tour for Ænima, c. 1998, still playing clubs with 800 max capacity. He was a gracious, friendly guy to talk with a random (also drummer) fan post-show, and my first insight to the fact that rock stars are also normal human beings. Thanks for the great music, guys.

Just saw them in New Orleans Saturday Night....3rd time I’ve seen them live(2002 and 2007 also)and I think they just keep getting better with age...blown away even more every time I attend a show and the stage show on this tour is absolutely amazing.....Like I told a friend of mine,a Tool show isn’t a concert..it’s an experience....

It may also be because the metal community (self included) tend to get up in arms towards anyone too "mainstream" succeeding and getting that $20 million day one album makes you a "sell out" and "not as good" regardless of sound. We are passionate, but our nature is cannibalistic. It's unfortunate really.
