Such a good choice of song for Layne. Couldn't imagine anyone else singing a Tool song as well as Maynard but Layne rocks this one.
@tamibrandt4 жыл бұрын
Maynard equally did a good version of Man in the Box and Them Bones when he did the Tsunami Relief Benefit thing with Jerry, Sean and Mike. William DOES NOT have the power in his voice that Layne had especially for Them Bones. Maynard James Keenan could get close to Layne's vocal range for Them Bones and Man in the Box (and many others). And Maynard would have the reverence for Layne's memory, he was friends with Layne, he KNEW Layne, had history with Layne and saw what Layne went through from Lollapalooza 93 until Layne became a recluse. Besides, Maynard already had two bands going on, why not join a third band? I ran into Jerry doing Got Me Wrong with STP... that felt almost sacrilegious and off-key without Layne just watching it.
@jacinto14773 жыл бұрын
@@tamibrandt really? I actually thought Weiland did a good job. I mean, when they reunited part of me wished it was with Weiland
@tamibrandt3 жыл бұрын
@@jacinto1477 I'm in the camp of No Layne/No Chains, because no matter which singer you put up there to sing those songs, it'll only be a cover. Layne had a unique voice you cannot replicate or replace. A lot of those songs were great because Layne pretty much wrung his entire soul out singing them, others were personal to Layne and to have someone else sing those, the songs lose their meaning because the new guy didn't go through the ordeals those songs are inspired by. Jerry doing Got Me Wrong with STP... that felt almost sacrilegious and off-key without Layne just watching it. Now Jerry has William singing Layne's vocals especially on something like No Excuses (a song Jerry wrote about Layne's fight with addiction and how no matter what, Jerry would always love and defend his best friend) or Love Hate Love which Layne wrote about his relationship with Demri. No. Just No. Some of the newer AIC fans may like William. And he's probably a great guy in real life but -- it's hard to describe what Layne was...one thing is he was so much more than his addiction. Layne and Jerry were two of the strongest personalities in AIC, the heart (Jerry) and soul (Layne).

And wish Layne's vocals were turned up. And wish the cameraman showed Layne more. And wish Maynard dry-humped Layne. I'm pretty sure Layne is one of the main "friends" Maynard talked about when he partially explained some of his lyrics, including some APC stuff. Anything that talked about struggling with addiction, he has mentioned "friends". Pretty sure he meant (at least in part) Layne Staley. So many great singers, gone. 🤔😭

But if you want really good quality, you’d get a bigger one with better optics. They’d also be on a tripod. Really high quality video cameras with good optics, are about the same size now. The size is to do with the optics.

@@derekfletcher8934 it's actually spoken on film. Interview with Kurt Loder back in 2003. Maynard made it a point to say that he tried to help and see Layne through with as much positivity as he could muster, and when he died around the time APC was touring again, it took the wind out of his sails. He said that he just could not understand or fathom it, but that it still happened nonetheless. And sometimes, no matter how hard people try, the drugs win. And he ended it poignantly by saying that this record was the wish fulfillment of somebody surviving that hell and 'choosing to live'. A lyric that literally ends the album.

Not sure what form that would take, but could you imagine? Same goes for Nirvana and REM. It's kinda nuts how, of the big 4 Seattle bands, the ONLY frontman still alive is Eddie. I'm just glad that Perry Farrell and Billy Corgan both have MASSIVE egos and would never fathom depriving the world of their genius by cutting things short. And I mean that. when i hear a Tool song, what comes to mind. rolling surf, bright, sunny days, walks on the beach and muscle-bound surfers...... NOT!!! this vid is absolutely surreal. I dont think this crowd realized what an amazing rocknroll moment they were witnessing

I was at this show and didn't find out until much later that Layne was singing. Unforgettable show, with the unbearable heat and the giant water hoses keeping us cool

I remember being like 9 years old trying to find live videos of black Sabbath playing. I found a website with some old live videos and bookmarked it. Was hard to find videos before KZbin came around.

Jmk voice is so strong you can barely here Layne and he has probably one of the best voices in the 90s.maynard back then his voice was loud angry and powerful I don't think anyone could compete to the power of mjk.its crazy Layne was it with his voice.until I heard that.i can't believe Layne had nothing on mjk.

It's really strange and deaf of people to say Tool weren't grunge. Stranger still is when people deny grunge even exists. Call it whatever floats your boat but fact is, the bands labelled grunge all had a unifying sound that connected their individual styles together. If your ears work, you'll hear it. Much like with prog, you can get 5 bands of that label but they sound completely different, and that's because it's less a genre and more, a way of doing it. Dream Theater and Opeth, for example. Completely different but very mucg the same. This is the case with grunge and Tool to me are what happens when grunge and art rock collide. Their first 2 releases aren't remotely prog metal. To me, Tool started as a grunge band then developed into this style that is genuinely unique to the band and it is a mix between art rock, progressive metal (though I don't consider them so much of a metal band) and grunge. Long live the 90s!
