This was my mom's favorite song. When she was in the hospital, unable to talk or really communicate, I put this song on for her and she squeezed my hand SO TIGHTLY and I watched as tears fell out of the corners of her eyes. This song will forever remind me of my mother, and that moment.

This song brings me closer to god. I know tool isn’t exactly the most Christian band, but I think this song helps me to humble myself and realize our mistakes. Time and time again I deny my creator. The one that gave me this beautiful life. The creator of this beautiful planet. The beautiful starts in space and time. And he still gives me numerous chances to better myself and stand by him in his kingdom. Despite my unworthiness. Glory to Yahweh. Please forgive us for our disobedience. I would also like to thank you lord. For always giving us a chance to prove ourselves faithful, despite our evil and selfish nature. The greatest lyric ever composed for sure, not only is it beautifully and uniquely worded, but this lyric works from both a religious and non-religious perspective. A religious person may say how could you ignore the majesty of god and heaven and all its eternity for your short life on earth. Whereas a non-religious person could see this as, why would you waste your gaze to the stars as a search for non existent paradise instead of awing in the wonder of the universe.
@Lilac_n_Cherry5 жыл бұрын
Can somebody elaborate on these lines? Finding it hard to understand the meaning.
@danmarr76325 жыл бұрын
@@Lilac_n_Cherry It basically means that we should embrace this one blessed chance to be alive and not spend our limited time here causing harm, negativity and destruction and learn to love everyone despite our differences and beliefs because at the end of the day, we are all here for a blink of an eye. Might aswell make the most out of it
@apokalypthoapokalypsys95735 жыл бұрын
@@Lilac_n_Cherry What makes this sentence so good is that 'squander" can both mean "to waste an opportunity", as in, not use the chance to do something, but it can also mean "to over-use something and achieve little or no results". Now, as Grandjapon said, from a religious perspective, the meaning is this: "It is wrong not to look at the sky and and to ignore at the eternal glory of God, if you know that you're just a mortal" But from an atheist perspective it's this: "It is wrong to waste your time looking at the sky in search of a God if you know that you're just a mortal". Does that clear it up?

Opiate - The scared and confused angry child. Undertow - The child has grown, and is still not happy. Facing and beginning to fight his problems. Ænima - He's still fighting, figuring things out. Still in pain, but he can see the other side now. Lateralus - He isn't quite at peace yet, but he's past the nitty gritty. He's growing and finding himself in the world and the cosmos. Exploring his spirituality. 10,000 Days - He now thinks back, and watching the present day. He, once knowing the pain and struggle the people of earth face understands whats happening. He chastises, tutors and tries to guide people in the right way. Yes, this album is spiritual but, it is very earth focused. (Mostly). For to further your spiritual path, you must first understand your earthly self. Without a ground to stand on, you cannot fight like he has. Fear Inoculum - He's begun to move past his pain now, and continues to guide those around him. He teaches the lessons and learns them along side us. Tool is a personal journey to me, this is what I've gathered so far. (Or some of what I've gathered) (I left out their tape before Opiate because it's basically Opiate with less quality. Still like it tho) Edit: Glad to see there’s some similar outlooks out here. Tool’s always gonna have a special spot in my heart

"I just realized today that this song is about Solomon's trial, in which two women both claimed to be the mother of the same child. Solomon threatened to cut the child in half and give each woman one half. The women's (or rather, one of the women's) sin was thinking it was all about themselves, rather than seeing themselves as part of a greater whole. The true mother understood this intuitively, and gave up the child so that the child could at least live (Solomon then gave the child to the real mother). But the two women are just a metaphor. The whole world is clamoring for ownership over a planet that fundamentally isn't theirs, thinking it's all about themselves. It's petty and pathetic, and so, to give perspective, Maynard borrows from Solomon and suggests: "cut it all right in two." " - C. B. Robertson

As I listen to this song while leaving my family, friends, and girlfriend behind in Syria, I am overwhelmed with a mix of emotions. The haunting melody and lyrics seem to perfectly capture the intense feelings of loss and separation that I am experiencing. The lyrics "Angels on the sideline, Puzzled and amused, Why did Father give these humans free will?" hit particularly hard, as I struggle to understand why we must be torn apart by war and conflict, and why we must suffer such great pain and loss. At the same time, the song's message of unity and the call to "divide and fall in the end" offer a glimmer of hope, reminding me that we are all connected in some way and that perhaps someday we will find a way to overcome our differences and come together as one. Overall, listening to this song while leaving behind everything I know and love is a difficult and emotional experience, but I hope that it will help me find some sense of peace and comfort during this challenging time.

@BayandurPogosyan3 жыл бұрын
@@darkySp wasn't it just a competing standard. After all, you need two instruments to be in tune with each other.
@darkySp3 жыл бұрын
@@BayandurPogosyan It was, some classical composers tuned to A=432Hz, but now there are uploads of songs that are edited to the pitch of 432Hz and people get the placebo effect, thinking that the 432Hz version sounds better or some go the extra mile and straight up believe that they feel more relaxed or focused when listening to the 432Hz version. There's some very limited evidence and theories that suggest that 432Hz is the most resonant frequency with the Universe or something like that. It's all a hoax and a placebo, basically. While A=432Hz does have an effect and it does bring a more mellow quality as opposed to A=440Hz, the instruments themselves must be tuned to A=432Hz, which is not the same as changing the pitch from A=440Hz to A=432Hz in software. Same principle as slowing down a song in software and playing it at a slower tempo.
@BayandurPogosyan3 жыл бұрын
@@darkySp all evidence I've seen is that frequency resonance is more dependent on the acoustics than anything else. Just play different pitches at a high enough volume in different rooms, and you'll see what I mean. The rest of it, yeah, it does affect the character of the sound in a small way, but it also might make it sound a bit out of tune. Also, you're right, most people do not understand musical instruments don't produce a fixed-frequency sound wave you can just manipulate, there's a lot of overtones and other stuff that goes into the body of the sound, and just changing the frequency does not recompose the body, it just shifts it.

So hard to believe people don’t like Tool. Best band ever. The new album is incredible. Worth the wait 👍
