The guitars in 7:13 ; I believe it’s called a volume swell. It’s when a guitarist plays a note at very low guitar volume and then slowly turns the volume knob and increases it. Adam Jones uses it really well as an effect in many Tool songs ; and its sounds super cool. Sounds even better live !!

I'll never forget the first time hearing this song... I was stationed in Japan serving in the Marines and I knew they were about to release a new single. I streamed radio stations based in California hoping to catch the new song when it first came out. I had been a Tool fan since the mid 90's. Keep in mind this was before KZbin and major streaming platforms... Finally one evening Vicarious played over my speakers (streamed from some online radio station from California) while sitting in my barracks room in Japan... It was 2006. The song still gives me goosebumps.

Ryan basically hit it on the head towards the end. Tool works if you want to really sit down with a great pair of headphones and concentrate solely on the music and really appreciate the technical depth to the song. It also works if you're working or whatever and just want something that will make you nod your head going in the background. There are a lot of bands that make more technical music than Tool. Tool's secret is that they take all those complex elements and make them groove, which is a rare gift.

So, I’ve heard that ToOL is meant to be an experience, just wait until you start listening to their albums in their entirety--from beginning to end--like how they were TRULY meant to be listened to. I swear there is a place for each of their songs, every song was written so carefully to what feels like a flow in their albums. Anyway, this was an amazing reaction, glad y’all have become such fans. Glad to have you aboard. 🤘🏻🔥👁️

great reaction guys... I've grown up listening to tool and I get stoked when others feel like I do when listening to these dudes. Adam was a model maker in films before tool got big, you can see his name in the credits in the original Jurassic Park. He dipped out to go be in a rock band.

Regarding Tool's shifting grooves, I feel that Aenima is perhaps their most instantly likeable album to the Tool newbie as it has progressive music but with more straight forward grooves. It took me longer to really get with Lateralus and 10,000 days I must be honest but the rewards are deeper there

I would say the undertow album, is more accessible then 10k. 10k still has a ton of freak out jams & long tracks. TOOL calls 10k their blues album.
@Gnix1996
@Gnix1996 7 ай бұрын
@@adamjones7014 eh depends on the person I suppose. 10k Days was more accessible to me and it's what kickstarted my love for Tool. I still rarely listen to Undertow because I'm not really into grunge. But tracks like Vicarious, Jambi, and The Pot are all very accessible. Right In Two is also pretty accessible for a longer, more prog Tool song. Rosetta, Wings, and Intension are pretty inaccessible, though.
@adamjones7014
@adamjones7014 7 ай бұрын
@@Gnix1996 I've heard ppl say 10K got newer fans into TOOL because of the commercial friendly songs. The 'hits' on 10K have that 4 on the floor, "sabbath type groove" -MJK quote. However, the same can be said about Aenima (Stinkfist) & Laterlaus (Schism, which was a massive commercial success). TOOL always writes a few songs for commercial play on every album not Undertow. idk if I consider Undertow grunge. It's hard rock. TOOL said, when they were trying to 'make it', they chose their heaviest songs for 'Undertow', because that was the sound back then.
