Hell yeah. They found me through pure luck, I finished listening to an album on Spotify and they just randomly generated the song "Prison Sex" and it disgusted me so much i couldn't get it out of my head for a week. I started to try and get into them and now they're one of my favourites.

Tool is not an age-based band. My mother is 64 and she can dig it. Even their early shit. The old lady loves Opiate. Remarking on how profound the lyrics are. Then she’ll compliment Danny Carey of how ridiculous his drum skill is. Tool is a supergroup that never had to announce the fact.

I'm not entirely sure why so many slammed this interview. Perhaps they just weren't smart enough and weeded themselves out, as Maynard in this interview says they fought to do with angry skinhead types in the early Tool days. For those of you with a brain, if you don't want to hear dude's prelude, just skip ahead to 4:50 and the interview beings. Fascinating interview!! I don't remember the interviewer's name, but he did an incredible job with his dialogue with Maynard and the listener gets to hear an entire timeline of MJK's life up to now. LOVE IT!! Peronally, I liked this one more than the interview the Joe Rogan, just because Joe talks way too damn much! I love the guy and all, but I wanted to hear more MJK on that one. Anyway, definitely worth a listen for ANY Tool fan!! Enjoy!

plaguezero Study the rosetta stone and read more of Blairs posts. I think this song is inspired by that whole "encounters of the third kind" kinda wish/ fantasy. On acid ...
@loutewlu769110 жыл бұрын
plaguezero i heard somewhere that maynard based the song on many different accounts from friends or articles or hearsay or whatever, about abductions, psychedelic and mystical experiences, divine and messianic delusions/expectations/realizations. prolly a little personal exp. on maynard's part thrown in there. pretty much a tributary parody in of reaching divine truths or having visionary experiences while under the influences, then returning to every day life and finding the experiences to be inexpressible or difficult to integrate/remember.
@plaguezero10 жыл бұрын
Lou Tewlu Sure, I've heard that too, but would really love to know what's actually being said. bits and pieces are almost coherent but the rest is just drowned out by the music
@4valhalla89810 жыл бұрын
they're really spiritual but not in a christy way but they still... i mean listen to the song 46 and 2, read the lyrics and if you know what 46 and 2 mean you can grasp the pace of the band, each album has it's own, it's about spiritual growth mostly.

Why can't Joe Rogan do an interview with him like this? Every time Maynard is on JRE I want to bang my head against the wall!
@josh-rz3uq3 жыл бұрын
Because Joe Rogan is a fucking idiot.

So true..never talks about Tool. Joe is too high I think
@steve0503 жыл бұрын
Rogan is a sell-out shill piece of shit. He was cool like 12 years ago. Maynards first interview on JRE was the best one, every time he has been on since it's just him answering questions about UFC and winemaking. The one where he went on to talk about the new album Fear Inoculum, was the most frustrating shit to watch. He gave Rogan opportunities to discuss it and ask question about it, but Rogan just went off talking about stupid bullshit. Was terrible.
@zakkwells3 жыл бұрын
I get you I find it frustrating as well but. The JRE interviews are fruitless for us TOOL fans as Joe talks to Maynard from a friends perspective,rather than a fan or interview /journalistic perspective. But yeah always still get excited thinking he’ll open up about TOOL On JRE but because of their vibe Those kinda topics just won’t be broached . (All guesswork I dunno the guy For all we know off cam pure troll MJK is like I’ll answer any TOOL shit you wanna know Joe ... just not on camera I like to keep em guessin Hehe

Please stop promoting that no talent hack Joe Rogan. Dude knows very little about anything yet blathers on about everything. He also elevates conspiracy theorists then when confronted (Alex Jones,Truthers, vaccines etc etc) doesn't have the balls or intellectual integrity to stand up for his bs. He's a fraud.

Good interview by Maron, solely based on the fact at how open Maynard was. And I haven't heard Maynard laugh and be so engaging as much as this.

There are ALOT of judgmental assholes posting comments in here. That's the problem with the world today- people are too afraid to look at themselves so all they do is sit and judge everyone else. It's too sad really but had to be said.
@Darpinion9 жыл бұрын
Everyone judges. Almost every thought that comes into your mind is a judgment on some level, but most people don't broadcast their judgments to the rest of the world, because most people don't fucking care.
@Rasputina299 жыл бұрын
That may be the way you and a lot of other ppl think but I don't. I have more than enough flaws of my own. I'm not sayin that I can't see the problems in others but I just dnt think of em totally negative.
@Rasputina299 жыл бұрын
***** Hmm, this is the first I've heard of Melora having a stalker. Not surprised tho as she is beautiful and yes- Rasputina's flippin awesome! Ever seen em live? I got 2 c them in 99' in philly and they were totally great. Melora Creager's always been on the side of being odd to some ppl but I've never perceived her that way. However, her bein "friends" with her stalker is kinda strange even 2 me. We don't know the whole story though and maybe there's aspects 2 the situation that make it make more sense.
@gwainwright829 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree with you. People don't seem to be able to look in the mirror and see the real problem. I really enjoyed this interview - gave me insight to MJK and how he sees things. I like listening to people who have insight like this - it's inspiring.
@Rasputina299 жыл бұрын
Gavin Wainwright Yeah, I know what you mean. Ppl(it seems)are usually blind 2 what's right in front of them. They're unable 2 truly be introspective anymore. Idk maybe it's because I spend a lot of time by myself so it's easier 2 look inward. Don't always like what I see but it makes it easier 2 figure out aspects of myself, others and the world beyond.

It seems pretty apparent that Maynard and Marc are friends. This feels like Maynard at his most relaxed. He didn't seem phased about the mom thing either, that's just people on this board.

Since im one of the Tool/Perfect Circle junkies I have listened to every interview he has ever done. And this is undoubtedly the best one ever. He got Maynard to open up which most can't. You want to see a shitty maynard interview watch the joe rogan one. Kudos to this guy for pulling the funny out of Maynard!

Well, it helps when the interviewer isn't intimidated or else just trying to make himself look interesting to the interviewee/audience. He talked to Maynard like he'd talk to some guy out in the world and it was appreciated.
