I think is professionally edited, very thorough, entertaining and educational, in other words it's good stuff XD. By the way, I'm not a native English speaker so it is hard to me to read the description text on the video while I listen the information, may be it's just me, anyways thank you very much.

@@deltakid0 It's awesome that so many non-native English speakers enjoy my content! I'll definitely try to take this into account for my next videos and slow down some of the text to make it easier to read.

Found this by coincidence. I'm the author of the infamous GenEm that was more or less the first emulator for that machine that ran games and not only demos. The hard thing back at that time was that most of the things I did was looking at disassembly of the code and getting a guess. As I had no access to a real hardware (never saw a MegaDrive/Genesis in real life before ;-) At least for the first months I had no access to a documentation of the hardware. Emulation was entirely based on raster-lines, no cycle-exact emulation was even started or sounded even manageable with CPUs running at 33-100MHz at that time. Thank you! Brought back memories for sure.

Thanks for helping pioneer the emulation community! GenEm honestly was one of those projects that I saw referenced in a lot of other projects that took inspiration from you and your hard work!

Ngl, it's nice to hear about these old emulators... wish I could see them in action and see how well they handle each game and how accurately they represent them

it was 1997 or 1998.. i bought a bootlegged CD (500-600mb) with a face cover of an Adobe product.. it was full of uncompressed .BIN and .SMD files with Genecyst from Bloodlust.. Man, i was blown away.. Great days!

Steve Snake is the literal GOD of emulation scene (not just SEGA part of it, due to obvious reasons, but in general/overall. I believe it wouldn't be a big exaggeration to say he's "Byuu-equivalent of SEGA scene"). It saddens me deeply that he "retired" so relatively early (in comparison to where we are right now). KGEN-'98, despite being a somewhat cumbersome/ZSnes-like emulator in it's approach to UI/GUI design and navigation, was an EXTREMELY solid product that lasted me for years, before Fusion became a viable thing. I will be sincerely thankful to Steve for this experience forevermore for all eternity to come and then some, as it made me the hardcore emulation-anything aficionado I am today, it literally changed my style of life and the way how I look at different software and especially video games ever since 2002 came (I've used different emulators even before that, but KGEN-'98 was that exact single point which made me completely rethink on how I do things in life and made me readjust/revamp/rehaul my overall tastes/preferences in media as a whole, literally creating a solid pro-emulation advocate/defender out of me ever since and right up to this very day). Steve, if you're reading this, just know - I will be eternally grateful to you and what you did/what you created. KGEN-'98 made an emulation aficionado out of me, and then Fusion solidified that transition.

Awesome! Yeah, Steve Snake, Marat Fayzullin, Stephane Dallongeville and others were truly pioneers in the software space at that time.

Generator definitely wasn't written in Z80 assembler; it's a C project. It's hard to imagine the utility of a Mega Drive emulator written in Z80 assembler. But pickiness aside, I enjoyed the video - you can almost track the maturation of emulation just by watching authors increasingly use their real names...
@TooLateNate3 жыл бұрын
Don't know how this comment escaped my notifications, but here we are lol. Yeah, I don't know why I stated Z80 Assembler, I even had it written down properly. So I'll just chalk it up to being rusty from not doing any content in a while.

Unfortunately, it's been some time since I've last looked at the information, you your guess would be as good as mine. Much of the information is located on either private websites and forums or long defunct sites that require Wayback.

The 90's was a great time. Back when Compaq was selling overclocked PC'S for $1000+ without telling the consumer. Emulation gave older PC's a run for their money.

Fascinating video but I would have liked to have seen something mentioned about the Ages emulator written by Jeffrey Quinn. This came a while before Gens and was the first with Sega/Mega CD support
@TooLateNate3 жыл бұрын
Well, the issue was that I seemed to of written Ages into the video, but for some reason, skipped over that part of the script when I recorded the voiceover. By the time I realized this, I had already exported the second draft and I didn't want to delay the video any longer, since I wanted to put this out in November. A mistake on my part, but not much I can do about it currently.
