Thanks for the video.. I thought the throat was defined as follows: "The throat is the distance from the blade to the vertical frame section of the body of the saw. This distance determines the width of cut that can be completed on the band saw." I think you described the resaw ability of the saw. I love your stuff!

This video was very helpful. I’m just getting back into Woodturning after being away from it for about thirty years. While some things are the same there are a lot more tools available than there were back then.

Loved the video. really interested in how you have rearranged the workshop. I use two mobile tool chests like the one you show to store most of my turning tools and accessories. cheers.

I think the Yellow Jacket want to learn how to use a lathe I got bumblebees that watch me..... I think if we both had twice the amount of space be twice as crowded... Very good video Tim.... I enjoyed watching it you like Thompson tools ? I have used a few of them I ended up make my own.... Went to Home Depot bought shovel handles made out of Ash or hickory make fantastic handles ..... custom length works out great keep up the good videos

Nice video Tim. I have all the things that you have in your shop. But i decided to use also a dust/ shavings extractor and a tablesaw. The next time, I will buy a new lathe. The american beauty is too expensive for my use. So I will buy the axminster trade at 1628 vs. Will see how it works.

Do you have any type of dust removal or vacuum system? I just got into resin casting with wood turning, totally ruined my organization plan. Good video for a shop review. well done. Craig

I'm interested in the laser light you have on the hollowing tool. Do you sell that separately? I have one but I have gone through about 10 laser lights because they can't hold up to the constant vibration. They are not easy to find and end up costing a fortune once you do find one that will work... Just ready to change to something better. Thanks!

so... i want to be able to turn lengths up to 50-60 inches long... would i end up just using extensions for the tailstock? even if i went for a fairly beginner entry level lathe under $300 for the lathe itself? apart from doing basic turning i want to use the lathe for hand sanding and polishing of wood, so that i can make single piece or segmented walking sticks out of glued together woods of different types, and be able to turn bits for attaching hardware for handles and points... got any advice where to start out?

Small shop, reminds me of the saying “size matters” but you prove that (tool, equipment) placement counts. :) I have a 40‘x40‘ woodroom in my 40‘x80‘ shop and still run out of room. :(

I want to buy some of those Thompson Lathe tools, but struggling with which ones I should get. As of right now I turn small objects like chess pieces. When I started 5 years ago I bought the cheap tools that sort of worked. Now I want to invest in better ones. I uses a Delta Mini/midi Lathe. What would you suggest?

Hey Tim I am 13 years old and have been turning for a year. I really enjoy watching your videos and was wondering if it would be worth my while purchasing a tormec t-4. I do not have a job or a lot of money so I am not sure wether or not I should make this investment. If you can give me some advice that would be great but if not that's fine.
@willemkossen6 жыл бұрын
Jack O Callaghan i just got one. Its a lot of money. But i guess i never knew how dull my tools actually used to be until i got them on the tormek. Very helpful. Bur mind you, you need to buy all those jigs separately too for it to be really usable for turning tools. They have a woodturners collection which is a bit cheaper, but its still a lot. I cant decide for you, bur i really like my tormek.

You should move your grinder, so it's behind the lathe. You'll be more likely to resharpen you tool when needed. Now you have to WALK ALL the way ACROSS your shop to resharpen.
