Your timing of this is perfect, except maybe a day late for me. I've been doing the same thing as respects some of my flags in prep for the 4th. I was wondering what you were going to do as far as glue is concerned. I used a hot glue gun which was okay, but can get a bit messy. I'll have to try your Shoe Goo product. Hi Peter, yes the shoe goo is perfect & not so messy, well maybe a little. You may need to also do something to keep the flag from wrapping over the rail/fence/whatever you hang it on. I am working on that. Please also fly "Old Glory" on all the other flag days, not just 4th. blog.directauto.com/odds-ends/days-to-fly-american-flag/ Next is Labor Day :)

Yes froggy, I do fly the flag all year long and try to observe all the relative guidelines to do so as well as the proper disposal when they are no longer suitable to display. I also fly the Betsy Ross flag as well. America, long may she reign!

@@1947froggy Maybe it's allowed to have a grommet on the white trim, but not on the actual flag material?? My huge casket flag is like yours: grommets on the left side where there's a white trim. In the rules, it states not to damage it, but one option is to use binder clips, which can then hang over a hook on a wall, etc.

I appreciate the desire to display "Ol Glory" but this violates US Code for Flag Handling/Etiquette. Can't punch holes in the Flag, this is why the end has the grommets ... it's not "The Flag." As mentioned, The Flag is also being "grounded" by touching something. Perhaps you've already corrected this practice for this coming year? It's marvelous folks desire to display their Flag ... but please do so in the proper/approved manner. There is a right way to display The Flag and a lot of wrong ways. Don't forget retiring the Flag every evening if The Flag doesn't have DEDICATED illumination.

@@richardview1281 many fought/died for your right to desecrate the Flag. just know you are dismissing them as well as the proper way to handle/display Ol Glory. It's really not complicated to do it correctly. Even a grade school student can can learn it.

You CAN put a grommet in the flag - there is no provision for holes, and you are correct that the existing grommets use the same principle. Those saying that factory-installed grommets aren't a part of "the flag" are not correct. 2. Touching something else is fine too - it is not "grounding" - that term doesn't exist. However, the flag is not supposed to touch the actual ground, or water, or something else below the flag, or...merchandise. It does not have to be free-flowing, and you can hang it on a wall. The guidelines are fairly narrow, but some people just keep repeating myths about what you can and can't do -- the original text says it all.
