.223 fans may be unaware but Barnaul is the top tier quality for x39 ammo at basic ammo pricing. Think of x-tac from PMC but steel case. X39 ammo usually goes at 2350, but that Barnaul was over 2400! That is spicy! You'll notice when you shoot it compared to Tula, and even Vympel.

Great rifle test, and very surprised that the 7.62 didn't come off the table like in previous tests. When our guys went to Iraq and Afaganistan, many picked up and used the AK's for knock down power, as many enemies would keep on fighting even after many rounds of 5.56/.223 hit them. But they weren't using the softpoints. That chit went crazy after hitting the gel.

I have a bunch of the steel case soft points from 123 to 200+ grain weight. They all work quite well. Wish I had gotten a lot more of it. I've recently picked up cases of the PPU soft point x39 in the pointy and the very blunt round nose. They're both great for the dense woods and swamps around me. Can't see to take more than maybe a 200yd shot anyway unless it's a plowed field. Most of the files are full of $500k houses now 😢

I shoot Barnaul in both .223 and 7.62x39. The AK has taken two Whitetails. One dropped in it's tracks and stayed there , the other ran about 25 yards using its chest as a skid because both shoulders were broken and piled up dead in a pool of blood almost a yard in diameter. Barnaul 125 gr. SP. .223 would not have broken both shoulders. Lighter bullets are more subject to veering and destroy themselves when striking heavy bone. Here in the woods you can't even see more than 50-75 yards away so I don't need a laser beam trajectory. Thanks to your channel Tools, I'm going to look into that PPU RNSP as it appeared to have rendered impressive test results. Thank you for the nicely done videos.

I remember back when I was first getting back from Army Boot Camp in 2014 & got my AR, I was told around that time to be careful with the steel-cased 5.56 with that lacquer on it because SUPPOSEDLY if you ran enough & got the chamber hot enough, the lacquer could melt into your star chamber & if not immediately cleaned out could basically bind up your chamber. Not sure how true that is but I've generally avoided the steel stuff in my AR for that reason.

Standing ovation on today's test. I have a lot of 7.62x39 s.p. in both 125 and 154gr. It gets in done in my AR15's in 7.62x39. I'm all over the G. Broker Barnaul auctions and o can't recall ever seeing the .223 in s.p.!!! Besides that, note that the .223 speed is hot! My opinion of course. Started to build an AR15 in 5.45x39 but the ammo dried up and so did the available stock of barrels dried up. I use the 7.62 s.p.'s on hogs but head and neck shots only. Smaller than .243 in Florida for game like deer, hogs not legal, but the Golden Tiger fraggies are ok for 2 legged applications. For me I like jacket separation just another wound channel and I'm going to start loading 68gr for my AR's little more weight retention and heard pistol barrels like heavier projectiles lighter ones lose momentum quickly... anyways 👍 another good test for the books .... c ya on the next 1

The soft point I been wanting u to test is the 154gr tula soft point I might have to locate some and send it. Won’t be as heavy as the box of shotgun shells so u won’t think it’s some rocks as a prank😂

Great performance from both! As you noted, probably not ideal for hunting, but for self/home-defense or nailing varmints, these seem like excellent rounds.

Would be perfect for hunting. Who doesn't use soft point 30-30? 7.62x39 is extremely close to 30-30 ballistic wise
@CeltKnight Жыл бұрын
@@АлакПатрова - I'd have to rewatch the video, but IIRC, the penetration, while great for self-defense vs humans, may be a might shallow for thicker skinned, heavier boned critters. Typically, for game deer sized and up, the better anti-human rounds often underperform on the big critters. But, yes, 7.62x39 is indeed very close to .30-30 ballistically.

Try the DoubleTap 124gr. with the all copper hp. I'm using this in the Ruger American Ranch 16in. barrel,getting excellent accuracy the bullet seems to hold up well in game. Only downfall is cost.

They both basically lost 20-30% but the 223 getting that velocity out of a 16” is impressive and being over 3000fps means it should penetrate most “barriers “ if you catch my drift

Yessir. That speed is no joke.😎👍

Interesting test and results Tools. Either camp should be pleased with the way their round performed. But the debate will go on, which is best. Either way I don't want to be on the receiving end of either. Be vigilant and always be safe my friend.

Why do so many people always disregard the jacket? I can get it if the separation occurs early, but that jacket was right by the core and would likely be right by the core in a person or animal as well, so it absolutely counts as part of the projectile in my opinion. I can see not wanting separation while hunting, but for anti personnel I really think it doesn't make any sense. Thanks for the test. Was curious about both these rounds and apparently actually missed this vid.

i suspect those have corrosive primers... wash your barrel with balistol (i think that is what it's called) and water
@ToolsandTargets Жыл бұрын
Non-corrosive. You have to buy some older stuff or dirt cheap surplus for the most part these days, to run across anything that still has corrosive primers.
